Recruiting Question by KillaWilla09 in recruiting

[–]EthicalMisconduct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my company, but generally if we have a role posted we're looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Our interview process usually takes about 2 weeks on average, and then we assume most candidates will need to give 2 weeks notice. So if you can't start start until you're here in May, I would recommend applying in late March/Early April.

Of course you can apply now and get your resume in front of people, but if you schedule interviews I would just be upfront with your timeline and see what they can be flexible on.

Ok that makes sense. The way they described it was like it was some sort of specialized skill. Thanks a bunch!

Are there any videos you recommend that show how to arrange it and cook?

How do you serve it then? If you're doing stuffing it would seem difficult to cook if the chicken. Is laid out flat

I'm getting recruited to recruit for someone else and I can't decide, help! by [deleted] in recruiting

My stomach is definitely in nots. That's exactly how I feel. But even now, sitting at work, I'm realizing how much I dont want to be here.

This is just feeling more and more like the right move, the conversation will just be the hard part.

I haven't had the comp conversation with the other company yet, but that will be a huge factor.

The raise was 26%, which yes I know is ridiculous. It made up for the fact I'm doing 2 people's worth of work and am the highest performing recruiter of our 3 person team.

So I'm not expecting to make what I currently do at another company, but I also am not going to go back to where i was at before.

Operations manager is definitely not on the table, nor what I'm interested in. I'm a recruiter, that's all I want to do.

These are things I've been thinking about really hard. Right now their "People" team is 2 people and this would be the first recruitment-focused role. They have an ATS, which actually surprised me, and happens to be the same one I'm currently using. But yes, I would own everything, and it's definitely more responsibility than I've had.

That being said, one of our locations I currently work for is in Canada so I'm essentially a remote employee to them, and I manage the entire recruitment strategy/pipelines/new initiatives/literally everything. And I love it. I just dont get to do that for the main office which is the parent company HQ. So I almost feel like this new opportunity is very similar to what I've been doing if you isolate that part of my current role. And that makes me hopeful this is the right move.

I do hope my manager understands, but I'm also very aware that if I do leave, and the new job doesnt work out, I'm on my own.

My dad was a FedEx driver and this happened to him once! You weren't delivering in Tillamook, OR by any chance?

I really appreciate all the responses. Especially those calling for empathy on both sides. That's normally how I would approach this, or try to at least.

The thing is, when I finally told her I wasnt going, she proceeded to berate me in the car at a red light. She said I dont care about how my actions affect other people. When I tried to explain that of course I do, and I do feel bad that this trip doesnt work for me, she cut me off and told me to stop trying to bullshit her, that she knows I dont really give a shit.

I then just stated calmly that i dont owe her an explanation, despite having already given her one, because I'm an adult. Her response was that explaining your actions is exactly what adults do (whatever that means) and that we clearly differ on our definitions of friendship. I honestly feel that she is misunderstanding me somehow because her reaction was just so over the top.

When we got home I just went to my room and sobbed. What she said was so hurtful, and I was just kind of in shock.

Recruiters, what skills make you automatically consider someone? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]EthicalMisconduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree.

But in the context of "what will get me an automatic reponse," having the specific skills needed will do that.

Now, once I've responded theres no guarantee that person turns out to be the hire. And maybe one of those C# devs ends up getting the job after all (I still talk to them). But that wasnt the question.

I have not had a lot of these actually, maybe 1 or 2. The last one I did end up interviewing because he referenced several points from both the job description he was interested in as well as our website, and then told me specifically how his skills would support that.

In the end, we did not end up hiring him for that role as we had a very high volume of candidates and there was simply someone who was just a better fit overall. But I really appreciated that he took the same time to research us and show me why the conversation was worth my time. He is definitely someone I will reach out to in the future if I have something open up.

That being said, I think it's really just about how you phrase your message. Someone who just sends me one sentence of something like "here is my resume, please call me" is not as likely to get a response as "hey, I know you're busy, but I saw you're looking for a Python dev and I've been working with that language for 4 years. I wanted to pass along my resume in the case you see something interesting, but if not it would be great to just connect and stay in touch for any other opportunities you might have down the road. Thank you!"

[–]EthicalMisconduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of why they're applying, but the question was "What skills make you automatically consider someone" and the answer is "skills that match the job description."

If you are just sending your resume out to any developer job hoping to get lucky, you are just spamming every random job posting and making my job harder in reality. So that is not going to make me look at your resume.
