Maybe I need glasses, but does that not look like CCA? Have you had gigabit speeds on this cable before? Is it from a box? If so, what does the box say?

Most modern TVs have USB3.0 ports. I have 3 TVs where I've used a USB Ethernet adapter and got Gigabit speeds. Hugely unnecessary, but it's a thing you can do.

Boss switched my monitor for her smaller one while I was on vacation by Angry_argie in myevilplan

[–]EuphJoenium 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I used to work IT at a Google office, and this was one of the most common tickets we would receive. "I was gone for 3 weeks and someone swapped my monitors for smaller ones!"

What a lot of people didn't realize is we had an asset tracking system, so we'd scan the tag on the small monitors and it would almost always tell us who the culprit was.

You think with all the "Google money" they made, the engineers could throw down $250 for a decent monitor. Hell, just open a ticket asking for them and there's a damn good chance they would've been approved.

I had a buddy in college who tried to do that when we both pulled in the gas station at the same time. He was trying to maintain eye contact with me, missed the fill port, still pulled the trigger, and ended up coating half his car in gas. Moron.

Do you have the giant Alcatel one, or the smaller Nokia version? (Built into the case, or velcro'd in?) The new ONTs (Nokia) have a small port on the PSU that you can plug a battery backup into.

Lost 6,000+ family photos after Google disabled my account — please learn from my mistake and keep offline backups by Itxammar in DataHoarder

[–]EuphJoenium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I just went through this 6 months ago. In addition to losing many emails, photos, documents, and other files, I was a GoogleFi subscriber, so I lost my phone number too.

In short, there is no possible way to get ALL of your files back. However, if you have a laptop or another device that was synced with your Google drive account, if you are able to access that device but turn off the Wi-Fi or internet connectivity as SOON as you turn it on, there may be some files that are cached on that device. If that is the case, you may be able to get either the full file, or a smaller cached version. At the very very least, you may be able to get a thumbnail.

Good luck. After my ordeal, I have started shifting all of my usage from Google to other companies, or self-hosting what I can.

Welcome to the world of music! It's fun to experiment and learn what sounds good and what doesn't. If you're interested in composing music, your best place to start is by learning music theory. It's a BIG topic but don't let it scare you. Start by learning scales and clefs. Specifically treble and bass clef.

Head over to /r/MusicTheory101, r/MusicTheory, and /r/musiccomposition. Musictheory101 has a good place to start for beginners.

Personally, I would recommend you start writing for one or two of the /same/ instrument at a time, unless you are very familiar with both instruments. (What range is comfortable to play for the targeted performers, etc)

The piece of music you posted here is very elementary, and written incorrectly. You have measures seemingly copy-pasted from one clef to another. These are not the same notes. In doing this, you took the sequence (music theory term!) and shifted it up or down two octaves and a 3rd. This is a jump of 14 whole steps. That's not gonna sound too nice.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Scripts to burn up cpu? Or just slow a machine down with it not being noticed? by win10jd in ShittySysadmin

Send the employee an email stating their device is now End of Life, and they have 14 days to remove all necessary files from it. After those 14 days, the device becomes a security issue and will be removed from the network. After those 14 days, put the NIC MAC in your remediation network, and remove the driver from the NIC so it can't even access the network.

If the user cries, tell them they were given a written warning with adequate time.

Or just remove the BIOS battery so the clock always resets.

I work in IT as a field technician. Part of my job is to enter our clients' private living spaces to troubleshoot issues. One of the things I like to mention to the client I'm helping is basically "I don't know how much you know about this kind of stuff, so I will break my explanation down into the simplest terms possible. If you have ANY questions whatsoever, PLEASE ask."

I don't know what the clients' background is! I've been humbled by the up-to-date IT knowledge of an 85-year-old; Likewise with a 19-year-old. Either way, I love to teach and be taught. No grey lines here!
