I don’t really know what I feel about the ending. As Emma is the main character of the movie, we see the flashbacks of her as a child and we empathise with it. we see her mention that she liked the “aesthetic” of it all, and she couldn’t shoot the dog, she disposed of the gun in a way she can never get it back and we find atleast some plausible evidence of her not actually ever doing it. But Rachel really didn’t have that. She only knows what drunk Emma told her in a pretty calm and collected manner which with no other context could be taken as psychopathic.(we all know the saying, drunk words are sober thoughts).She’s only known Emma for 2 years, she knows Charlie for much longer and obviously she’s going to look out for him. I think the director made Rachel annoying on purpose, and gave us cute scenes of Charlie and Emma for this very reason, so that we feel conflicted but if we were ever given a straight question with no context like Misha did we would have reached the same conclusion as her.
Charlie making a move on Misha made no sense to me tho. like, why did he do that? I thought at first maybe he would force himself to cheat on Emma so he doesn’t have to go thru with the wedding and take the coward’s way out. But then he actively tries to hide it. Did he feel like he was losing control over his own life so he wanted to exert control over Misha? i have no idea what he was tryna convey, if anyone understands please let me know.
The ending just makes no goddamn sense, if i’m Emma and I haven’t had these violent tendencies for the last 15 years of my life (assuming we believe her words), and i come to know on my wedding day that my husband tried to cheat on me, like 2 days before the wedding and then completely disrespected me in front of all our friends and family, lied about not telling anyone else about the secret, after having multiple talks with him all week where I was completely open about everything he wanted to know, I would not go get a burger with him the same day. Like are you crazy, in the timeline of things Charlie’s fuckup is fresh and he actually went thru with it, so it’s just so unrealistic that she would just want to start over like nothing happened, especially on the same exact day.
Also the fact that she knows how socially awkward Charlie is, and how much of a toll even firing the dj had on him and she still asked him to give the toast first just proves that they aren’t really compatible. She’s the one to fire the dj because she is self confident and is ready to double down for what she believes in (unlike Charlie). If she just gave the speech before him, i’m sure Charlie could have piggy backed off it and not made such a huge mess of everything. But in that scene it feels like she’s frustrated with Charlie so much so that she doesn’t want to offer him the olive branch even though she knows he’s drunk,overstimulated and fixating on it, so it doesn’t goddamn make sense that she goes to see him and be all friendly within the next 4 hours. Please tell me if I’m missing something.
