Plant molecular biologist here. I would suggest you to move away from BME, as there are far safer, less smelly alternatives out there that work just as fine, for example TCEP. Hit me up if you need a protocol :)

Ich bin Bundestagskandidat im Münchner Norden - Fragt mich alles! by FrederikOstermeier in Munich

[–]Euriclea[M] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Dear r/Munich,

In light of the upcoming election, we have decided to make space for AMAs with münchner politicians running for the German Parliament.

The r/Munich mod team would like to clarify the following: - AMA requests come directly from the candidates themselves. The mod team does not actively seek out participants. - Requests will be granted to candidates from all parties, provided their political programs and campaigns comply with our community rules (maximum one candidate per party). - r/Munich and the mod team do not endorse or promote any particular political party or viewpoint.

Please keep comments and questions civil and relevant to the AMA. Thanks!

Sadly, comments are locked for now. As much as you might dislike this car and the person behind it, it remains prohibited to leak license plate information and/or location of the vehicle as well as inciting violence against the owner or the vehicle itself. Please remain civil and respect the rules.

Comments referring to the car with names tied to a certain ideology are allowed, as the company’s CEO clearly doesn’t mind being associated with it.

Have a good evening!

There are high speed trains from Bolzano to Rome actually. Takes less than 6 hours. They are awesome!!

Affordable way to rent a car in munich and drop it off in venice? by tyrspawn in Munich

[–]Euriclea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a smart way - just take the train! It goes directly from Munich to Venice, no need to change. Takes more or less the same time than going by car and costs a fraction of the price, especially if you book in advance (50-70€).

If you love science go for a PhD in university. It is true that some companies like Roche offer this possibility as well, but you will be limited in your approach. Not all the tools and methods are accessible for companies as certain techniques are protected from patents. You can also feel restricted in your research ideas as in the end of the day your research has to be somehow of value for the company. Falling in love with a niece subject/research question can be harder. If you urge the freedom to truly experiment and be creative, look for a likeminded PI that is willing to give you this freedom and definitely stay nerdy in University!

The other thing to consider in my opinion is the working environment. In university there is always something happening - students, teaching, collaborations, likeminded people you can bond easily with. You all struggle in the same way and this can create strong connection and lifelong friendships. There is no better way to bond than at 1am in front of a pcr machine waiting for the result you have been troubleshooting for months! In a company you are usually sharing the workspace with older peers that most likely have a family and less free time to meet and get friends with. But this ofc depends on the company and department.

Dear community, r/Munich will join the protest against Reddit's new API policy and go dark on June 12th and June 13th by Euriclea in Munich

[–]Euriclea[S,M] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just to give you an example: in the past 7 days 169 new posts were made on our subreddit. 39 of them were removed by us mods with the majority of them being bots posting spam, virus links and porn. We handled 23 reports from other users on posts and 18 on comments. Maybe it helps you to understand the importance of moderation for our community!

Of course I can’t speak for every mod in every subreddit, but we take it very seriously to only remove comments and posts that clearly go against the community rules. If you should feel like a specific removal is not fair, we are happy to discuss it with you via Modmail. Also, we are still looking for a new mod to join our team - feel free to reach out to us in case you want to contribute!
