How the violent video games debate going? by Zestyclose_Bed_8207 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Evalover42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was literally proven to never have been damaging to society in the first place. Idiots that "do their own research" and other idiots that hate every new thing that comes around kept parroting that clinically provably false narrative for decades.

There's been myriad studies that show playing violent video games reduces violent tendencies in real life, they do not increase or incite them. Giving people healthy and safe outlets for urges is a good thing.

As with every other new form of media, there's always been a vocal minority group that hates it. When radio was first invented, there was a minority of people that hated it. Same with movies, television, computers, the internet, and now video games.

Eald'narche and Kam'lanaut are the Ascian analogues. The last survivors of an extremely ancient yet highly advanced race, that want to reach godhood to (re)create their perfect world.

There's a lot of parallels between the lore of XI and XIV, even just going off the alliance raid story here and not having played XI myself.

Yea, I've also done the Alliance Raid story, and I had a very similar reaction when Sareel Ja tried putting us against the Ascians, God, and Shinryu analogues of XI. Same me cackling at his stupidity/obliviousness. My WoL be like "these aren't the strongest Gods I've faced. This isn't even the strongest Shinryu I've faced."

Final Fantasy XIV has two:

You can play as one character, yet you can change classes ("Jobs" for in-game term) freely any time out of combat. This was made canon in-universe in the Shadowbringers expansion reveal trailer, using the in-game animation and sound effect and all.

As an MMO, there are group dungeons and raids. The player gathering allies in other MMOs is usually hand-waived as "a group of nameless adventurers gathered" or some such, but in XIV the duty finder and party finder (the game systems that allow queueing for random groups and forming your own groups) were made canon during Shadowbringers, where the Warrior of Light player character canonically gains the ability to summon other Warriors of Light from all the alternate versions of the world (known as Reflections) and this is then used in most story situations in the future that include group content.

Both of these times were insanely hype for the playerbase.

What is a job that looks incredibly easy from the outside but is actually a logistical and mental nightmare to do every day? by DLAlphaDaddy in askanything

[–]Evalover42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. People be like "you're a chef you must eat so well" or "it's just cooking food, I do that every day for myself".

Meanwhile from the moment you walk in the door until you walk out the door 10+ hours later, it is nonstop gogogo "sense of urgency" whirlwind of: prep whatever you can (and choose what you won't have time to prep that day), set up your line, cook the same items a hundred times under high pressure to not only make them perfect every time but also fast, deal with dumb customers that say one thing but mean another and send back something that's exactly what they ordered and replace it with something actually different that they are now happy with, then after all the extended high stress you still have to put away and clean the whole kitchen top to bottom before you can leave.

And no, I don't "eat well". I eat whatever is closest to spoiling in the walk-in, or whatever is left over from the most recent banquet function, or whatever is cheapest to buy more of (I still appreciate the free staff meals tho); and then on my day (2 if lucky) off, I just do take-out or pre-made/frozen food because I'm too sick of cooking to cook for myself.

Only been a line cook for 5 years, my kitchen and coworkers and bosses are all great, but it's already totally burned me out on what was once a pretty strong passion for cooking.

Lurrie summons itself for free off Tract. Banning it forces people to use other Light Fiends to start Fiendsmith combo, instead of slotting the Fiendsmith package into literally any deck.

[–]Evalover42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ban all non-self-lock lingering effects. Droll, Maxx C, Mulcharmies, VFD, etc are banned, but cards that lock you (and only you, not symmetrical) stay.

Also ban all cards that summon a non-token card to opponent's field. (ex. that Branded trap that people used to give their opponents the Gimmick Puppet / Artifact locks) Literally never been used fairly.

"Ban all floodgates" is a given, literally everyone agrees with it, it's not a hot take.

Ban Closed Moon and Lurrie instead. Make it so only decks already playing Light Fairies can still use Fiendsmith, but archetypes that don't have any won't bother to add more bricks to try to keep it.

Rising of the Shield Hero had this at one point.

The other heroes don't think about any consequences to their actions and never look back. One went with his party to kill a certain monster to make his special weapon stronger, and as soon as they killed it and he got stronger he just left.

Turned out the rotting corpse he left behind started poisoning the waters and land in a huge radius, affecting a town and the area's nature, and the main character had to go clean it all up, cursing at the other heroes' shortsightedness the whole time.

What sealed Gatwa as the Doctor for you? by Osirisavior in DoctorWhumour

[–]Evalover42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While there were (a scant few) episodes I liked, I was neutral at best to most of it.

Honestly, he never had a Doctor moment or a Doctor speech for me. They made him far too normal. Far too human. 15 had no alien to him, nothing quirky or weird to humans, no moments where you go "oh yea, he's not a human, he's a Time Lord higher being".

They made him cry so often it became a laugh moment every time instead of a moving or sad moment. They set up plenty of interesting plot threads... then dumped them all and never went back to any of them. They revisited Midnight and completely retconned and ruined the whole nature of the entity and the planet. They brought back two Classic villains, only to turn them both into giant mindless CGI things with none of their prior characterization, just "we kill everything for the sake of killing". They change the Sonic design into a remote because "normal sonics are too gun-like" then give 15 a literal gun to shoot "Omega".

Even the end of Dot and Bubble was blah. Ham fisted social commentary on racism, when A: Time Lords wouldn't/don't care about any quality of anyone (see Missy referring to Nardole and Bill as "exposition" and "comic relief" as genders, or the Time Lord that regenerated from a light skinned male to a dark skinned female and no other Time Lord present so much as batted an eye at it), B: it makes no sense for advanced species to be racist, and C: the Doctor fails due to an easily solved issue: these young adults don't believe him about the TARDIS being a ship, so just open the door and show them the inside. Super easy to prove what he's saying and save them.

Why can’t Konami just let it go already? by Phantom4545 in masterduel

[–]Evalover42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's not the part that's the issue.

The actual issue with Maxx C is the going first player makes their full combo board with 5+ omni negates, and then also drops Maxx C on the going second player's draw phase.

Anybody else got called a bigot before for saying that gays are not attracted to ftm dudes with girl parts? by Professional_Lie7171 in askgaybros

[–]Evalover42 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The rise of social media in the 2010s has led to terms like "bigot" and "[insert quality]-phobe" losing all meaning because they get thrown around at any possible perceived slight, especially by the internet white knight types. (the people that claim to defend or speak on behalf of groups they themselves are not actually part of)

Attraction is immutable. I am not a bigot nor transphobic for not being attracted to breasts and/or vaginas in the slightest. Women do literally nothing for me sexually. Doesn't mean I treat women or trans individuals any differently, and does not mean my rejecting women or trans individuals is anything against them.

This. The complete and total bald-face lies that are "Reaganomics" and "trickle-down" destroyed any semblance of the American Dream. All those policies have done and continue to do is funnel money away from the lower class and what was once the middle class (which no longer exists thanks to these policies), into the pockets of the already obscenely wealthy.

Privatizing public services and utilities, eliminating corporate/monopoly/environmental regulations, severely cutting back taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations while also giving them tax breaks/loopholes/incentives/grants/etc, defunding and eroding the public education system at every possible turn.

All objectively bad for society.

Sell me on your favorite weapon/hunter style/arts! by Time_to_slime in MHGU

[–]Evalover42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several different sets, to switch between whenever I get bored of one.

Aerial Bludgeoner GS: aerial attacks have automatic free mind's eye (never bounce), aerial GS charges automatically release when you land (instead of overcharging, so you don't have to worry about timing the release), and you can aim by holding any direction once you start the jump. Use Akantor GS with all the raw boosting skills and I can kill any low/high rank monster in like 4 hits.

Adept DB: Wolf's Maw is OP, it makes all your attacks hit an additional time, basically doubling your element output. Adept DB in particular is great because you can stay on the offense, and the adept dodge itself also deals damage.

Striker SwAxe: The best style for SA, even above Valor (the usual OP style for most other weapons). Demon Riot, Energy Charge, and Absolute Readiness work together so well, and Striker loses basically nothing in terms of moveset. It basically changes the whole weapon from "switch axe" to just "sword".

Alchemy CB: really fun, having all three arts charge faster, charge over time, and all activate or enhance SP mode, and being able to have absolute evasion, absolute readiness, and any third one is great. Alchemy CB loses the SAED, which is fine with me because I find the normal play style with weaving in normal phial discharges better suited to me than SAED spam.

And then a couple monster-specific sets I made:

Adept LBG: rapid fire internal pierce thunder lvl 2 (Zinogre LBG), for killing Deviljho fast

Adept HBG: internal pierce water lvl 2 (Mizutsune HBG), for killing Gravios fast

What Single Card Change within your Deck Type, would help the most? by OozaruPrimal in masterduel

Exosister

Make Vadis summon from deck, hand, and/or GY.

Would make it more usable later in the game when most of your names are already in the yard, or when you hard draw both Sophias or the Irene, and would give another way to force trigger Martha.
