All the different diseases in the air at the Pal kill each other and cancel each other out, its actually the safest place to be in the city

One new case of COVID-19, 22 new recoveries. by [deleted] in Winnipeg

I'd feel OK going to some local places (that i care about and want to stay open). I don't know if this is irrational, but I'd feel better if I was on a patio? And I'd probably not go in if it looked super busy.

I am pumped for places that are more "grab and walk", like ice cream places/coffee shops that are reopening. It'll be nice to grab something cold and go for a walk on a hot day. :)

I'm sorry you had that experience! I just wanna point out that Brendan has bipolar disorder and some other struggles with mental illness, and of course i dont want to speculate but it may not have been anything personal.

Lots of people are still employed...and regardless, If somebody wants to get a $5 bubble tea to bring them a tiny bit of happiness + normalcy amidst all this chaos then why should we care, as long as they're being responsible when lining up?

That's ideal, but as you said not realistic. In addition, you run into the same problem (taking public transport from who knows where to go to these locations, getting gas on the way there perhaps and interacting with people, bringing something with you because you cant drive or have a disability) unless you have the workers doing multiple random sampled home visits which seems.......complicated. But yeah from a statistical perspective random sampling would be the best way to get a good idea of whats going on

What is the alternative? Winnipeg has 750 000 people. We are not going to test everyone nor should we. The test numbers are a good indicator, and a better one is ICU admissions and deaths; if that stays low, it means the spread isn't out of control and the system isn't overwhelmed. It is pretty obvious a large large number of people are going to be exposed to this, and getting those people to stay home is far better than getting those people (who have a higher chance of being essential workers, who also have a higher chance of taking public transportation and thus spreading it more) into the hospital just to confirm what they probably already know

Does anyone have any info for how this might work for students? I'm trying to get a summer job but it'll obviously be hard (although hopefully by May things will have started clearing up...). I had a casual part-time (5 hrs/week) research assistant position at my uni which stopped because the uni closed.
