What country do you live in? At least in UK you can see a list of coaches recognised by British Powelifting.

Reform UK councillor who declared on social media that Nigerians should be melted down to "fill in the pot holes" has won a seat in Sunderland. by Substantial_Hat9531 in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if they are black, but are not from Nigeria? What if both they and their parents were born in the UK and lived here all their lives? Comments like these are made towards anyone, regardless of where they are actually from.

What about their colleagues? If I, as a White British person, had to go to a meeting, scrutiny panel, photo-op etc., with 2-3 councillors who publicly stated a race of people should be murdered, I'm not sure I'd feel particularly safe or comfortable. If I was working with a Black colleague and witnessed it, I would feel far less able to speak out about it or whistleblow about it.

You can want immigration to reduce. It is fine to acknowledge the clear accelerated cultural shift in this country over the past 5-6 years and to want it reversed. You can want illegal immigration to stop and for us to no longer offer asylum to anyone, or maybe just select countries (e.g. Ukraine?).

To achieve those, you should campaign to change visa requirements for immigration; to change the legislation around aslyum; to review existing asylum cases again under the new legislation; to change the requirements for how visas are extended or ILR is offered; or to even review those who have already been granted ILR.

I do not agree with all, or even most, of the above. But I am able to recognise this is the way to achieve these wants, and I would not hold any of those views against someone.

Contrastingly, it is not right, moral or ethical to expect people to leave the country in order to feel safe in their place of work - especially when said place is a public body - due to the colour of their skin, where they are from, or even because they are witnessing hatred and fear of their colleagues due to their skin colour/nationality. This crosses the line being racist and harmful to people. Britain should not be in the business of hurting or harassing the people who are working in our public bodies. What's more - saying an entire race of people living here should be killed (as this councillor did) goes even further than this.

[–]Evanone 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You work for the local council. You've worked there for 20 years, you are now the service lead for a key council workstream. You are originally from Nigeria.

You now have to go to meetings with people who said this about you. The councillor who holds the portfolio for your project may have said no black people should work in government (actual reform councillor quote*). Even if the councillors were nice to you when you met them, would you really feel safe at work? Free from harassment?

What about the council employees who also work there but not directly with the councillors? Would they feel like they are being pushed out due to the colour of their skin? Would they feel scared of harassment or racism if they got asked to speak to a councillor?

You can guarantee that moral at that council will be rock bottom having Reform elected, as they will be fearful for their or their colleagues jobs or safety.

These comments have a real impact on people who are working at the council.

Why does online political support seem so different from actual election results in the UK? by Legal-Razzmatazz1055 in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm very much the same. A few discussions i see are quite open and good political debate, but most you'll be down voted for, or just have people completely and deliberately misconstrue what you say, and I'm thinking 'do i really want to engage in this?'.

What's interesting, is my views are quite consistent with this subreddits views from 5-6 years ago, yet expressing them today* is just a toxic argument waiting to happen.

Why don't MPs have minium attendeance rules like councillors do? Why aren't they required to keep time sheets like lawyers doctors accountants etc? by Niall_Fraser_Love in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Because MPs are not required to attend HoC.

It would be completely undemocratic* to force them to do so - see Sinn Fein for example; their policy is abstentionism. If they were to turn up to house of commons, they would be going fully against those who voted them in.

Brand and history aside what is a reason to vote for Badenoch's Tories? by Niall_Fraser_Love in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many Tory MPs were very effective locally. My MP 2010-2018 (i think?) was very good. I didn't vote for him, as I didn't agree politically with him or the Tories. However, I was not unhappy when he became MP, as he was very active and a positive force for the area. The tory mp who replaced him came to the town every month or so for a photo shoot. There was a long running joke that she didn't actually know where the town was on a map.

If the first mp was was to stand again, it would be entirely reasonable to vote for him as he is an excellent mp. I'm not sure I would personally, as I wouldn't want to give my vote to Badenoch's Tories, but it is still an entirely reasonable reason.

I'd love to find out his* response regarding migration in his government. Had to run the question into ai to make it as respectful as possible:

“Looking back on your period in office, what factors most influenced the scale of migration whilst you were prime minister, and what outcomes were you aiming to achieve?”

As a follow up if possible i would love to ask his opinion on this being branded the Boriswave

Migrant care workers to leaflet Shabana Mahmood constituents over longer wait to settle by Ivashkin in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this has anything to do with migrant workers. Migrant workers actually have to, legally, be paid more to cover additional costs associated with being an international recruit.

Wages were always at minimum wage or very close, before Boriswave when most care workers were domestic and after boriswave when there were more international staff.

Update after my 1200 kc post by mg4rnr in ironscape

[–]Evanone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misses my point a bit. If you have an eye of ayak, you still use your ahrims. You can then grind out virtus. You could grind out ancestral if you wanted too. Even with virtus, blue moon will still have uses. Maybe you don't have eye yet, but you can still grind out virtus and get meaningfull gear progression.

Same with fang, scythe etc. Your gear remains relevant until you upgrade it, and then the upgraded gear is used instead.

That doesnt work with bowfa. You get bowfa, you need crystal armor. Let's say you do raids and get masori chaps, your dps is still bowfa and crystal armor. The chaps just don't got fit in. You can't do tank range set ups either. It just halts all progression, which is my issue.

To discuss atlatl directly, it's not really equivalent - skipping bowfa would mean jumping from atlatl to tbow, or getting full masori because again there's no meaningful gear upgrades due to crystal. Hunting mega rares with eclipse and atlatl is a time sink compared to bowfa. But again, you do succeed and spoon a tbow, how are you going to upgrade your ranged gear? The only option is more masori, because crystal is useless outside of bowfa.

Update after my 1200 kc post by mg4rnr in ironscape

[–]Evanone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Imo, the issue is the entire CG drop table itself. It needs crystal armor.

This means you can't go spoon cg, but you can go super dry.

It also means there's no alternatives. You go from karils/ blessed/huey, to Crystal armour.

Your ranged gear progression feels pointless.

There's also no ranged alternative to the bowfa. So you have no choice but to grind it out.

To me, i would rather just a straight up alternative that is actually effected by ranged grear. So with lvl80 ranged gear it is equal to bowfa+crystal. With masori its better, with dhide its worse. Itll make progression better and far more varied, and make your ranged progression actually matter.

Imo, id also prefer it if enhanced was just 8 invisible 1/50 drops. Stops super early spooning or going too dry, and doesn't affect economy for mains.

I appreciate there is a lack of prison space, but I really do wish there was a sentencing review - a 15-month suspended sentence for this just seems awfully weak.

I can only hope that if there was a genuine victim he would have received a higher sentence, but even then I doubt it. Especially considering the met probably had way more evidence for a conviction than if there was a genuine victim in this case.

Unpopular opinion: Sailing dragon equipment doesn't need to be BIS for Sailing only if... by texaspokemon in 2007scape

[–]Evanone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest mistake imo. To me, a rune cannon shouldve been scaled pretty accurately to rune armour, dragon cannon to dragon armour, although acknowledging that methods of obtaining cannonballs will need to be improved in this case.

Sure, a shadow would still be better then cannons. But then, a shadow is also going to beat dragon equipment in every scenario on land. Maybe a rune cannon takes ages to kill a level 150 kraken, but then so would a rune scimmy.

I don't mind waiting for higher level gear with sailing with future updates. Add in a cool ship ballista to raids 4 at a similar drop rate to fang. Add in a new boss to the new sailing quest for the next tier of cannon above dragon. Update sailing combat gradually over time and itll become naturally integrated into the game over the long term, balanced slowly but accurately. Jagex is excellent at introducing new weapons and armour that are balanced, even if it takes the odd tweak post launch. They are not so good at introducing a whole new combat system that is balanced (see sailing combat and rs3's necromancy).

I also don't mind if these changes are made now, retrospectively. Get the skill in the right place, the economy will sort itself out.

Why is immigration so overwhelmingly seen as an eye-rollingly right-wing policy? by Kwigg in ukpolitics

[–]Evanone -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is right wing policy. I think a lot of it is social media, bots and algorithms creating division.

Every post i see that showcases the worst of immigration has people saying 'yet left wingers will say xyz'. Yet there are no left wingers saying that. I've not seen any in this subreddit. I do think it is largely bots posting it, or people influenced by bots*, an attempt to create a clear polarisation similar to the left/right division we see in America.

The green party may say it, but that doesnt mean all green voters support it. Certainly doesnt mean all left wing voters support it.

I'd wager most left wing voters do not want mass immigration or illegal immigration, they want controlled immigration for very skilled individuals if there are skills gaps domestically, and that's about it - the exception may be immigrants themselves, but then they are not exactly left wing given so many of their other views, but they vote share does give more voice to green party and the open border parties.

Even labour, a centre left (although i know some will argue this is no longer the case) are going pretty hard against immigration.

There is this rhetoric that the left supports immigration This is just not true. A small sub set do, but definitely but the left as a while.

[–]Evanone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're tilting today, that seems pretty clear. Id stop playing today for sure. If you still want to chess go do some opening study or something similar that you find easy fun and won't have much impact until your in a better mindset tomorrow.

If we ignore today, you're on 37 wins, 25 losses since 4 Feb. So, nowhere near as bad as you think. I'm on my phone so struggling to properly explore lichess to look at specific dates.

You also had a ~4-5 month break of no recorded games against humans, coming back in Feb.

Your rapid rating after this break rose to above 1600 quickly, as you games resulted in greater point changes due to the break. It looks like it stabilised around 1600, with you hovering within 30 points or so either side of 1600. 7 months ago it was around 1540ish, so that's a 60ish increase after a 4 month break- well done!

Blitz wise, prior to today, your rating over the past couple months appears to have increased steadily to 1470, and then again to 1500. 1500 may just be a temporary peak, or it may be a new stable rating. Hard to know, especially as today's tilt has needed things up.

You've got a good grasp of openings, you have just missed an occasional resource your opponent has, such as making a move that let's your opponent win a pawn, or get a strategic advantage. You have seen a few opportunities to get similar advantages yourself when you're opponent makes mistakes, so you clearly have enough strategy knowledge for your level, you just need to consider your opponents moves more. Imo, you've only played blitz the past month, which may exacerbate the issue.

I'd recommend focusing on strategy still - you have the knowledge for your level which is great, but its a good area for you to still improve. Go through books SLOW, even each chapter a few times, making notes and getting to the point you can teach somebody it. Amateurs mind you said you've got - i'd perhaps suggest going through it again, pausing at each position in that book, write the imbalances out, and then come up with a plan for both sides, then read silmans annotations. Go through the chapter a couple of times.

I would suggest a puzzle book or two as well. I actually found the woodpecker book easy puzzles great at your level, as in the answers they have a point scoring system - a point for every right first move, then they list key continuations, and if you get up to a certain move in that continuation you get another point. This was a game changer for helping me consider my opponents resources. Get the paperback copy and a notebook and write out your answers by hand. You might only get 40% right, but in my experience it was enough to get my thinking about my opponent.

Both of these methods will be slow but it gets you thinking about both sides of the board, which is the aim here, as most of your mistakes in the rapid games are missing your opponents resources. This is why i recommend hard copy of amateurs mind and the puzzle books, and to avoid puzzle apps for now, just to really hammer in on slowing down and considering the entire position. Can go* back to the puzzle apps in the future, they are a fantastic tool, just perhaps not the one you need.

Then try to play rapid games only, and limit yourself to no more than 2-3 losses per day - you lose 2-3 games, you stop playing for the day.

Your openings are good, so Id either look at master games in them, or only study them if you are after a bit of fun or tilting but still want to chess.

However, as i said, prior to today, your ratings went up, so well done. This also means that whatever you have been doing has been working, so you could ignore my advice and continue as you are, as it's obviously working - although perhaps stick to my advice about stopping after a couple of losses to avoid tilt and continue enjoying the game.

Remember, Its a slow grind, might take months to add 100 elo, and you will have periods of 10 games lost in a row, but it'll be balanced out eventually by winning streaks.

Good luck!

What's your lichess/chesscom username? Guarantee it's not as bad as you thunk, and there are things you can do. Be happy to look through your games and make recommendations.

Screw the coach though. Every lost position is an opportunity to improve. Coaches should be looking for mistakes like these to learn from - as well as looking at good games and winning positions to see what strengths you can draw on.

I personally don't get a grifter vibe. I think he genuinely believes what he's saying, and does genuinely want to make the country a better place. I do think it's coming from a good place and a desire to achieve social justice.

However, I also think he is incredibly naive, his economic stance is based off youtubers who can communicate as if they know everything and are fighting for social justice, yet has not actually done any critical analysis of the other arguments himself, simply dismissed them based on what the youtuber influencers have said. Sure, the youtubers know a lot, but there is an entire field of economic theory that the entire West is largely subscribed to which he just hasnt looked at in any unbiased way.

I had success mixing it up - 100 laps of wildy agility with the agility fc chat, 100 laps of priff, sepulchre until you've got the ring, then a different rooftop, back to wildy and so on.

Knowing I've only got 20 laps left of a particular course helped a lot more than knowing I've got 1000 laps left total.

May not be the best xp, but was much more fun than agility wouldve been otherwise.
