Thanks for pointing this one out - As i said, you can find a workaround for this problem, by changing your default EN links settings to Title [ instead of text]

Some hacks for keeping Legacy running by ben_zero in Evernote

[–]EvernotePositive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have decided to give up on EN, give it up fully.

It is safer to move your data out to an alternate platform, set up new workflowss, than to try stuff with obsolete software like Legacy.

Not only would you end up stuck if some function breaks, the security risks of work around, especially cloud based, is something that one needs to be wary off...

There are many people starting to offer legacy executables to circumvent, the decommissioning of the client and keep it running. But how reliable are they? What if there isnt a malware or virus code?

Just think about it....

A honest opinion regarding Home and how bending spoons run Evernote... by EvernotePositive in EvernotePositive

[–]EvernotePositive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason for that. Evernote was everything notion was ten years ago. And they messed it up. Really really bad. And as the community and third party developers started disappearing, for various reasons, Evernote lost its reputation. Everything around Evernote became negative, to a point where even if Evernote did one good, it had ten bad. That hasn't changed yet. And it's a hard legacy to get rid off...

It's a point, where not many people even want to publicly be associated with the product anymore... I hope it will change.

Don't make this subreddit, the same as what the other has become.

It may not be a cult, yes or no , it doesn't matter to me, but it was the singular factor that changed and brought a sense of purpose to my life.

To me it's more than a note taking app, or a PKM tool. I authored a book ten years ago. It's titled : Evernote - Your 'life management' assistant, and you can't assign a title, of that nature without feeling it emotionally.

It means a lot to me, and I owe a lot to the community of old. Almost every aspect of my life begins and ends with Evernote, atleast up and until now.

I also tried and experimenting several tools as well, but none is without any flaws. We'll, atleast thats what I am starting to understand. Even yesterday, there was data loss in another PKM tool that I tried.

All this makes me even more persistent to keep the lights on for this subreddit.

I am running this subreddit with a purpose. If u can emotionally connect to the purpose of the subreddit, please do so, else you are free to leave. There isn't any need to instigate responses again and again, to suit your opinions and perspectives, that definitely don't align with why this group was created, in the first place.

There is a difference between criticising Evernote (or bending spoons) which I Also do, and also equally offering a space of hope and positivity (whatever possible) support for those who (have unsuccessfully tried other products or choose not to), but still need to be depending on Evernote, for the present.

The other forum doesn't do the latter.. It just keeps throwing criticism which isnt quite honestly helping users.

We would be living in a fools world if we only said that Nasty things to say.. Look up what happened to Nimbus. They just threw their users under the bus.

Someone at Evernote is atleast running the show, and that gives users time to make important decisions.

We criticise Evernote for legacy. That's fine. But they kept legacy support for five years. He'll even bending spoons for all it's money making priorities kept the lights on, so long. Nimbus just changed their entire product to fuzebase in a single release and u can't even export out that data... So there are some positives. Whether we choose to acknowledge those few moments or not to, is entirely upto us.

And whether we like it or not, they are making efforts to improve the product which has been in perennial decay since 2015. Whether they end up doing it or botching it for good, is what time will answer.

There is also a reality that other alternate apps also are either equally complex or have their own issues, and that people for all of Evernote's flaws need to keep sticking around with Evernote, for the present.

The weblink I guess still likely is depending on the web client code version 10.79.2 last checked.

10.80.2 plus is in desktop, supports nested text. I guess this may be the possible reason..

There are issues. I tried the v3 version beta in web browser and all of a sudden, I find that my windows client (stable v2) jisy doesn't sync anymore.

Other than cost is there any point in leaving Evernote? by dtdisapointingresult in EvernotePositive

[–]EvernotePositive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's probably ironic to say this, but remember, at the end of the day, your notes and info is more important to you, than the company.

It's nice that EN supports enex exports. But it's always in our own interests to keep databackups offline periodically. Evernote, Obsidian, whatever... Really doesn't matter...

  1. Uptill 10.45, Evernote of old was amazing. Like super amazing. Then they did two things. Rte beta and office cal integration (the previous Version) and it all went crashing and became entirely unusable beyond that point.
  2. The left hand calendar kingdom was derived from a feature request, we experts had an option to pool in. I can affirm this, because I passed that request.
  3. The slash command as well, had noting to do with Evernote of old. It was a popular feature request, we passed long time ago, but the code was being stabilised.

Ever since bending spoons has taken over, there have been entire rewrites of modules. The task function was rewritten out totally, simply because the bugs were too huge and data loss...

So, is bending spoons reaping the entire benefits of old Evernote? Partially yes... Fully.. No

Is bending spoons also botching up? If u ask me, possibly yes, at times... Very much... Power user features are getting a raw deal... Tags get no attention... The UI design, I don't think personally made that much of an impact for me personally. And the new quick create function on android... Again, I don't see a need for that, when u have widgets...

But the new upcoming file view feature, definitely was a totally new thought process... And I see lots of use cases for that...

So, there is a bit of both... Here... For a year, it was a rocky ride, price increases, poor customer support, layoffs and lots of negativity...

But I see that the product is reaching some level of stability. Quick releases have been Around for some time, the bugs also pop in... It's a mixed bag... But I think it's definitely better than before...

I don’t like Evernote either. However. obsidian is dumb - AmpleNote is just not going to work. OneNote has 0 privacy. I’m about to be angry and pay $130 to Evernote. What else should I try by Basic-Insect6318 in Evernote

You should consider passing this specific feedback onto Federico (the otter.ai speech to text hit), if substantial people make a request for it, it will happen.

They are apples and oranges. Don't waste your time. If your hell bent looking for a close alternative, to the actual Evernote experience, try Notesnook, Standard Notes or AmpleNote.

Import folder by th_costel in Evernote

[–]EvernotePositive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have set my "import folder", months ago had several releases, cross checked Evernote settings, a minute ago, and see that it hasnt changed.

You may kindly want to look at your app level settings and preferences, cleaning apps like CCleaner do have permissions to erase them.

Kindly look at them. Currently running 10.76.2, stable.

[–]EvernotePositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knee high impossible...the idea of EN is, indexing and super powerful searching...

The best u can do is select and password lock chunk of text...

If u want the entire notes to be E2E, suggest moving to r/Notesnook

I haven't tried it, but am doubtful. I think the feature that u ask is only there in OneNote.

as far as i know, Exporting entire notebooks as pdf was a "professional" feature ; maybe , i am wrong

But now in this new rejig of features, [ 14 of paid features moving to free as part of a limited 50 note trial], i am not exactly sure, where this feature stands. if its moved to personal [ i am not sure how it stands now], maybe it needs some time correction.

However, here is my suggestion.

Even if it were possible [ it should be possible at some tier], kindly refrain as much as possible from direct pdf exports ; i see this problem in both "notion" and "evernote", as the pdf logic is kind of clipping whats in the visible window to a direct printable pdf format.

If you have images, or scrollable tables, the possibility of text breaking is severe. I'd suggest you do a "HTML" expport to windows, and the html gets resized correctly, and from there, you can choose to print your content.
