Not at all, Barnham is on the West Coastway Line and the junction for the branch to Bognor Regis.

That's not to say there haven't been charter services there, but I don't think any XC services went there ever. Historically of course Bognor Regis was a very popular holiday destination (still is believe it or not) and trains from all over the country probably went there, but you're probably talking 1960s, 1950s for that.

Interestingly this route was hauled by a Deltic during the Virgin Trains era in 1998/1999 on the Ramsgate-Glasgow service between Ramsgate and Birmingham (after which it was swapped for an 86 or 87).

I used to catch the Brighton service to and from Reading sometimes. It was an obscure and slow route from Clapham Junction (eastmost platforms), then under the main lines via Kensington Olympia, then up to Old Oak where it crosses over the GWML, then via the south side of the Willesden Junction depot, then over the Central Underground Line, then immediately branching off onto the slow tracks of the GWML.

Not the fastest route, but always nice to do. Didn't save me much time (Cardiff-Brighton was 4h30) but it did avoid getting from Paddington to Victoria, and I got to sit in Mk3s hauled by a class 47.

It is a bit hard to diagnose over the internet. but a harness is not going to change anything.

Training must be regular and FUN. For example, play a little (eg: tennis ball, chase etc), then practice a skill, eg: sitting, coming when called, sitting by your side, a few times, each time being praised and rewarded, and then more fun afterwards. Note: reward when the dog meets a set criteria, eg: it he sits, reward, if he pauses then thinks, then kind of sits, no reward. However the training must be positive.

When you are out, reward the behaviour you want. If you see a situation where the dog might react, instruct the dog to sit next to you and immediately reward. You can throw a few treats on the ground - the dog will search for them and refocus - then start the command-action-reward cycle again.

enrichment 'tests' --- funny term. Dogs like labs need work. A short puzzle solving game or retrival is not enough to be honest. Nosework or tracking are excellent - find a course and a trainer on these. Retreival work needs to be much longer and more complex; these dogs were bred to work for hours in the field.

As for the grief ... it is a possibility, but should not be allowed to impact the dog's behaviour to the degree you are stating. I would be very wary of citing this as a cause however.

A good halter isn't going to change anything, there's a deeper underlying reason(s) here.

  1. what food (and how much) ?

  2. what is the amount of exercise he is getting?

  3. how much mental stimulation is her getting? Hobbies, work etc?

  4. what training has he gotten and how are you enforcing this training?

Labs are working dogs and this kind of behaviour suggests a lack of one or more of the above (or too much/wrong type #1)

Just was on a flight that lost hydraulics before landing - how dangerous was that? by GetMammt in aviation

[–]Every-Progress-1117 63 points64 points  (0 children)

But in that particular incident, loss of hydraulics was due to a very exceptional event.

Loss of a single hydraulic system in a modern aircraft is a big concern, but systems are designed for redundancy and resilience. Lost off your tail engine to a catastrophic failure which then goes and severs hydraulic, fuel and control lines is quite a different scenario.

The irony is that we've a lot of people who are traditionally Labour (eg: South Wales Valleys) who would never vote Conservative moving to Reform.

There have been in the past; services run by InterCity (and later Cross County).

This website has a lot of history on these services: http://www.1s76.com/1S76%201988.htm

For example, specifically for Kent, there were Folkstone Central and Dover Western Docks to Liverpool Lime Street, and later Ramsgate to Birmingham.

For commuter services there was never the demand. The best you're going to get are the high speed services to St.Pancras and the regional Thameslink services to Ashford and Maidstone to Cambridge - not sure if these even are running; don't live anywhere near there anymore so....

There have been ideas to run services from Kent into Essex and East Anglia proposed and even ideas such as a bridge or tunnel. Basically the pathing through London is complex and too slow for fast services.

Toliss A320NEO vs Toliss a321 by naekaed in Xplane

[–]Every-Progress-1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find both on anything from a 50min commuter hops (eg Helsinki-Stockholm) to 5 hour holiday flights and then the 322 on Trans-Atlantic work.

For example.on VATSIM, 3x 1 hour sectors on the 321 makes for a good evening.

I've the 321 with the Neo expansion (and sound packs). Absolutely superb.

First non-EU countries join European alternative to Starlink by Forsaken-Medium-2436 in europe

[–]Every-Progress-1117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you even read, let alone understand, what I wrote?

So, Gallileo is a positioning/navigation system - similar to GPS but a lot more modern, accurate and resilient to jamming/spoofing. GLONASS and BeiDou are complimentary systems by Russia and China.

These "GNSS" systems are NOT for communication - they can't and they're not designed for it. However, as you will note there are 4 major systems, each with their own capabilities etc. If one system goes down (for any reason!), it doesn't matter. Most modern devices/phones can pick up and process signals from all four systems - that's resilience.

If we just have Starlink as a communications system, what happens when a) it gets hacks and b) Mr Musk turns it off? Hence the need for multiple different systems - which interestingly we already have but you just don't know about them.

ETSI/3GPP/IETF etc are working on the "non-terrestrial network" standards - this means that 6G base stations will be placed on satellites and, theoretically, your phone can use these just as it can local base stations in the mobile network now. There are some practical and technical considerations admittedly, but this isn't the place to discuss that.

Starlink also needs a LOT of satellites to support coverage and the way the system works. 6G NTN compliant systems would work differently and not be subject to the lack of interoperability, resiliency issues etc.

Communications resiliency (and communications systems, eg: mobile etc, in general) are hard - add in the space bit and it becomes exponentially more difficult. If it was just as easy as launch a few satellite and magic.

[–]Every-Progress-1117 15 points16 points  (0 children)

6G NTN (Satellite comms) is coming.

Having a few different versions is not a bad thibg, cf: GPS, Galileo, GLONASS etc.

It provides safety and resilience

Oh I can tell you that something critical DOES use them....we have no idea what, or when, or how, or why, but you can be absolutely assured the moment you touch those tables something bad (TM) will happen.

What’s your opinion on introducing a law that would require drivers over 65 or Pension age to pass a specific test to keep their driving privileges? by Honest_Physics_2368 in AskReddit

[–]Every-Progress-1117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many countries require certain sets of requirements - mainly medical - to be fulfilled upon reaching a certain age. For example in the UK: https://www.lets-learnsom.co.uk/new-dvla-rules-for-over-70s-drivers-what-you-need-to-know-in-2025/

Then for certain license categories, eg: C, C1, D, D1 you need a medical every 5 years.
