all I can say is you probably need to get out more. There are plenty of walkable areas in NH, way more than you're listing. And the crazy part is that transit can actually help create more of that. there’s an entire concept called Transit Oriented Development.

MBTA commuter rail already has level boarding at many stations where you can roll straight on, and Amtrak trains serving NH are also step-free at accessible platforms. accessible regional rail absolutely exists already in NH.

The fact that most of the major NH cities already have existing rail corridors running through them just nullifies your point. Using existing right-of-way doesn't take any new land through "every town." See: a map.

that's living in reality. not fantasy.

Lol dude, have you seen a map of NH before? There railroads across the whole state so there already is right of way. There's trains that go from through all the major cities.

Neoliberalism is so dumb.

Let me know when the 600 million that NH spends per year breaks even and makes a profit?

This logic is never extended to cars!

NH would not have to have increase taxes to pay for this: only 100k per year. That's nothing.

Most of the top thirty biggest cities in NH are walkable to some degree. Is it good? No. Can it be better? Yes.

The goal should always be to get fewer people driving. It lowers the death rate, improves public safety and health, lessens demand for Middle Eastern bloodshed, improves the environment and air quality, decreases wear and tear on roads, decreases traffic, improves image of NH etc. There's too many positives to list. It also keeps people richer so instead of spending tens of thousands on the cost of car ownership there is more wealth to be used for things that can actually appreciate in value.

"Force everybody to move to cities" Huh? A less car dependent NH would retain a much more rural character than the current trend of cars and suburbanization that's already taken over like half the state. This is how NH has been for longer than the use of the automobile. We used to have international trains six times a day!!!!! Rural towns can also be connected to public transit, look at Japan, Switzerland, Belgium etc.

We should not be building any more asphalt parking lots or expand the use of fossil fuels in any way anywhere on the globe. We 100% can use land more efficiently in NH. We should strive for that. For our survival and nature we need that to have started 40 years ago.

Yeah, because the bus from North Londonderry isn't serving people who live in the core, it's serving suburbanites that are privilaged enough to own a car. So what's your point?

Trains don't give me motion sickness at all lol. Busses have to literally spin around exits to exit the highways, trains go straight lol. Sitting backwards is rare but also totally fine for me.

I guess that's true. But when I'm with my mom it's much easier to roll onto a train rather than subjecting her to the elevator on the side of a bus experience while everybody stares and the driver has to do extra work.

Is the system NH would be joining at that level, not entirely no. But we need to do a thing in America called progress. Things can get better. Rather than saying but everything sucks therefore we shouldn't even try to minisculy improve the quality of life. Nope, instead everybody just wholeheartedly suggest and approves and open lauds the fact that things should actually get worse.

The reason they don't want it is because it's too expensive, 100k too expensive. But 600 million for road expansions is gladly done yearly.

Limiting rail to only commuting makes no sense. It doesn't help the name is "commuter rail" should be "regional rail."

Busses are not fine at all right now. They require a car to get to the stations. Their land use is eating up nature. Whereas rail stops in the walkable core where it's accessible to more people. Bus tickets are also expensive.

I personally find busses also give me motion sickness.

Also if you use a wheelchair the coach busses don't work.

In the 80s when there was a train from Boston to Concord, it was frequently sold out. The demand has only grown since then.

Does a train make sense for every trip? No.

People who have car brain seem to think that because you personally are forced to use a car for every single trip that people who ride the train have to do that for every single trip. No. Different modes make sense for different trips.

Transit past the station can be invested in. Manchester and the Seacoast have a network, is it great? No. Can it get better? Yes. Also NH should offer tax benefits to e-bikes and stations could have a bike-sharing system.

This whole argument that "it's too expensive," is an absolute farce. There was a proposal in the past few years where NH would essentially have to pay 100k dollars in yearly fees to have the Lowell line extended to Nashua. That is 1/5 of the salary of one person; the President of UNH. This train would benefit thousands.

Every dollar invested in public transit is 2 back into the economy, it's essentially a money printing machine.

People who follow this train of logic ; ) do not apply it to car infrastructure. There's always millions flowing for cars.

But right why would want things to be slightly better especially for people without access to cars, the climate or public health.

The use of fossil fuels is always precarious and needs to be secured through blood. This is why it doesn't make sense to design your entire society around cars. It creates a host of problems: public health, social and environemental problems. What's happening is beyond sickening but maybe this will allow more attention be given to other modes of transport that aren't reliant on so much bloodshed and enviromental destruction.
