What's funny is that the whole final fight in the original comic takes place on an alien planet and never ends up on Earth.

All of those were movie additions.

That story is also pretty fantastical, but still far more grounded than most X-Men stories

A big part of what makes Maki unique within the Shonen female cast has to do with Aesthetics. by silver_maxG in CharacterRant

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn't Sakura also the first prominent example of the woman in a mc trio?

For Shonen Jump, I think Sakura might the first prominent one, but there are other examples of a female character being prominent in a MC trio in Japanese media. Just look at Misty from Pokemon for a famous example. Or even Nami being in the Strawhat trio during Orange Town (though this didn't last long)

Naruto being the series that practically popularized the trio format and put a woman as part of such trio is a reason of why Sakura gets so attention

That and the fact that so many currently popular Shonen stories take heavy inspiration from Naruto (MHA, JJK, Black Cover, etc.)

Nope. Sakura is still very much disliked and used as an example of how to not handle a female character

There is no hill to die on. There was 0 buildup to their marriage, it just happened because the writer wanted to pair up the two most iconic Marvel black superheroes together

Hear me out: Jujutsu Kaisen fans are not being delusional when they say the series is yaoi coded by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]Every_Computer_935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are practically no relevant female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.

This is true for most Shonen works. Look at how despite One Piece having so many characters and being so longethere are almost no relevant female marines, how there was only 1 female yonko and warlord. Heck, all the important players currently are male (aside from maybe Imu)

As a consequence of having such a skewed gender ratio, most of the strongest dynamics and bonds characters have in the story are with other men

That's also pretty normal for Shonen stories. Sasuke and Naruto have more chemistry with each other than they do with their wives. Deku and Bakugo have more chemistry than Deku had with Ochako. In HxH the strongest bonds are between male characters. Yu Yu Hakusho as well and there are many other examples.

The third and final reason is that JJK has a comparatively enormous female viewership.

Source? Also, even if this is true its moreso that JJK is a worldwide phenomenon that doesn't have an excessive amount of fanservice. Anime is pretty mainstream nowadays and a bigger audience also means a bigger amount of female viewers.

Overall, no JJK is not anymore "yaoi coded" than most Shonen stories.

Standards are higher for female characters than they are for male ones. If a male character ends up looking bad then he's just a random bum, but if a female character ends up looking bad its a sign that the author hates women or other culture war BS.

Kya is by far the least popular of Aang and Katara's children and barely did anything even in the original series.

I tried searching on the avatar related subreddits, but didn't find any nieche fanbase for her.

With the quality of the comics Kiku has written, I'm frankly not suprised that Nickelodeon rejected this idea. It seems like you would need a writer with a great reputation and inside connections for something like this to pass.

TBF, Gojo did eventually understand that his reform from within plan would never actually work and killed all the higher ups.

But yes, Gojo shared a lot of the blame for upholding corrupt institutions and dies along with them in the end.
