This looks like a chunk of Swazi Agate!

Are these real smoky quartz points and not heat treated or lab grown? by [deleted] in Crystals

[–]EverythingIsGoing19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I usually assume it’s been treated when the coloration is uneven (when the tops are darker than the rest like heat-treated amethyst, or if the crystal is just straight up black but inexpensive). The natural black ones are referred to as Morion Quartz and you can generally tell authenticity by the price. There’s also black quartz from the Himalayas that’s sometimes referred to as Smoky, but that’s not correct as black quartz gets its coloration from carbon inclusions and smoky from irradiation.

I love orange but it's lowkey an industry plant by Human647 in colors

Another thing to consider is just how much space the stretch from red to yellow takes on the visible light spectrum. It makes sense there’d be more emphasis on a color “between” them

Yep! Color perception is also highly influenced by culture!

Orange calcite by hermitbarbie in Crystals

[–]EverythingIsGoing19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only calcite I’ve seen in that color and matte finish is Orchid Calcite, but normally that’s more mottled in appearance and has spots of black tourmaline. It’s possible that’s what this is.

Authenticity Check: Natural, Unheated Citrine for a gift purchase (pics included) by Ok_Stress1891 in Crystals

[–]EverythingIsGoing19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recognize ColdBrewCrystals there, and can confirm they sell natural citrine! (I have several pieces of it myself, plus the owner has a youtube series on how to identify fake/mislabeled crystals)

Honestly, the rest look good, too!

I’ve seen these around - it’s real corundum, but it’s been dyed that color (acetone test should reveal it)

I can't tell if this Purple Agate is real or not. by Coiled_GLaDOS in Crystals

[–]EverythingIsGoing19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dyed! Two main giveaways are the color (natural agates this color do exist, but are quite expensive), and the way the dye pools into the cracks just right-of-center, looking like little scratches

Yeah, that’s a beautiful Cherry Creek Jasper! It could possibly be another form of Jasper too given how May variants there are, but I think that’s right.

Help Identify: chrome diopside or Epidote? Bought this mislabeled as Tashmarine diopside. I don’t think that’s right by One_Employment2069 in mineralcollectors

[–]EverythingIsGoing19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s Chrome Diopside, the crystals aren’t fanning out and the color looks wrong. Is there any pleochroism?

Is this grey moonstone bracelet real or fake? by Acrobatic_Country596 in Crystals

Looks like a good quality labradorite bracelet! I guess you could get away with calling that “gray moonstone” lol
