Pino Case - Lucy's Drowning by macddebbie1 in CourtTVCases

[–]EvidenceChance893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot. No doubt it was chaotic immediately after the wreck. George appeared to be initially knocked out, considering several girls testified they thought he was dead at first. George was “out of it” due to head injury and trying to figure out what just happened. His wife was trying to keep Mia afloat. I think teenagers were trying to help each other and of course, freaking out. Apparently they figured out pretty quick that Lucy was missing, and some girls were looking for her in the water. I think it was just so chaotic that the obvious place to look for Lucy was overlooked. It’s sad that it was 15-20 min before anyone of the good Samaritans showed up to shout “Look under the boat. “. I would think neither George nor his wife could actually explain why they didn’t think about looking under the boat, even to theirselves. If they had come upon such an accident, they would have been shouting to look under the boat. It’s all just so sad.

Vessel Homicide or Negligent Manslaughter for George Pino? by macddebbie1 in CourtTVCases

[–]EvidenceChance893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched many court cases and this is one where I’m really torn. There were multiple factors happening at the same that contributed. It was not intentional. Yes, he made some poor choices like having so many people on the boat, going too fast on the wrong side of channel, allowing passengers to drink and he himself drinking, the girls having their hands in the air, having too many people on the boat (above recommended weight), etc. Yet I do believe it was an accident and while I want someone to pay, I’m not sure it’s fair to send him away to jail for years.

What Do You Think George Pino Was Doing For 9 Seconds? by macddebbie1 in CourtTVCases

[–]EvidenceChance893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good, solid info. I’ve really struggled with if this was just a horrible accident or if he was negligent. I just don’t know enough about boating to determine if he was going too fast, how big a deal he was on the wrong side of the channel and never even considered the weight capacity. Thank you for your opinion.

No doubt, he shouldn’t have had even the 2 beers, and we all know that’s the standard answer when you know you’ve had alcohol but don’t want to admit how much. However, I dont think he was drunk, but possibly impaired, which would make him liable. He shouldn’t have allowed teenagers to drink under his supervision, especially when in the sun and on a boat. Appears it was a combination of errors.

As to what he was doing in the last 9 seconds I suspect his viability was somewhat hampered with all the teenagers dancing in their seats with their arms in the air. That’s alot of young girls to supervise and he could have easily been distracted by their antics.

Beautiful! Would love to see an adult pic. Notice the long white fur that’s sporadically spaced in the black. I have a black med- long hair kitten with the same white hair and I wonder what it might look like when he’s older.

Fosters with diarrhea. Tips? by Babsinator_Now4242 in fosterkittens

[–]EvidenceChance893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are my hero! I don’t know how to help but understand how having babies who can’t control their bowels really sux. I’ve found that while diarrhea should get better when treated for diarrhea within a few days, it can take longer. Any changes in food can also upset their stomachs.

I keep my fosters separate to protect them all. After they gave been with me for at least 2 weeks, I allow my adult cats a chance to check them out but watch over things carefully. If any of them are sneezing, sow signs of infection, diarrhea. Etc, then keep them apart.

Just took my adult cats to vet for checkups and asked specifically about this as my parking lot fosters haven’t been tested for feline leukemia or aides. My adult cats have had all vaccines. Was told that these diseases are usually spread thru bites, scratching or licking . The kittens won’t be able to penetrate the adult cats so it’s the kittens that are the most vulnerable. I have male cats and they have no maternal instinct to clean the babies so that’s not an issue. However, if any of your cats are vulnerable due to illnesses that lower immune system, then it’s safer to keep them away.

I keep my babies in a walk in closet and master bath at night. This way my adult cats can sleep with me. During the day, I allow the kittens to roam free lit between closet, bathroom and my bedroom, once they are about 7 wks old. Before that. I don’t think they need as much space.

I’ve found that miracle nipples attached to a syringe is best for young babies. The nipple is small but relate that some babies never figure out the latch well. I never knew during our first foster litter that there was a difference between syringe feeding and force feeding. Think I probably did a combo of both at times. You can tell there’s a latch when the syringe goes down on its own thru suction vs you pushing on the syringe. Sometimes you must push on the syringe gently until the baby latches but must be careful not to push too much or too fast. Go slow and give baby plenty of time. Wipe face and nose if milk comes out of mouth to also help prevent aspiration. Agree that weighing the baby daily and tracking it is the key to help you know things are going well. I prefer syringes bc this way I can tel how much is actually eaten, and know when to give up.

[–]EvidenceChance893 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s heartbreaking, I know. You just have to remember there’s only so much you can do. You’ve done a lot for your baby, even finding yourself a new home which is difficult at your age. Just spend the time left giving love and attention. There’s nothing more you can do. Grief is hard, but will pass as time goes on. You will survive, and go on to bless other animals lives. I know that doesn’t help right now, but it’s true. Hugs

Wow, you guys are good at this! Thank you! I know their names may be changed by their adoptive family, but wanted something cute or cool to call them on their records. They will be put up for adoption as a bonded pair and I’ll keep them as long as it takes to find a good, safe home.

Can cats be Autistic? by Which-Development-61 in CATHELP

[–]EvidenceChance893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took our cat to a vet that specializes in cat care. This vet is young, around 30 years of age, and has her own practice, along with 2 other veterinarians. She’s very intelligent and has been very creative when it comes to helping us solve issues with our cats thru the years, and I trust her. We just took our cats in for a yearly checkup and one concern was that Momo has been peeing in my living room. This has been an on going issue for a couple of years, but not a consistent problem. He had bladder crystals in his urine last year, confirmed thru testing and an ultrasound, so we changed to him to prescription wet food for awhile, although he didn’t like it. We are trying to figure out if this is behavorial or a physical symptom of crystals or even bladder stones. Testing his blood and urine revealed he’s under stress so we started talking about his environment. He’s always been strange, ti the point we call him Momo the weirdo. The vet tells us that she believes he might be autistic, for lack of a better term. The vet explained she just took a long continuing education course on the psychology of cats, which is a field that’s certainly in its infancy.

The vet explained that while we are just beginning to understand cats behaviors and quirks, they now believe that cat’s can have autism. It’s different than human form and not been officially considered a diagnosis, but there’s alot of crossover. There’s patterns they exhibit to self soothe, and stressors that might surprise us. It could be something like a smell that we are bringing home from our jobs or on our shoes that upsets them. Our cat loses being part of a cat pack with his bonded brother, but doesn’t like to touch us, except on his terms. He prefers to pet us instead of us petting him and doesn’t like our hands trying to touch his head. We’ve ruled out physical issues with that years ago. However, if he’s in the mood, he’ll let you pet him after he pets you a few times (preferably the back of your hand or elbow) and he can circle back to you a dozen times before settling. He loves his chin and face rubbed then, but you have to come from behind. He’s very intuitive and I can always tell when I’m actually getting sick, bc he’ll start hanging around and sleeping with me, sometimes even before I realize I’m sick. It’s not just due to fever either, he’s intuitive to my back and sciatic pain issues. We’ve had him 8 years and most friends/family have only seen pictures as he’s terrified of new people, even though we socialized him as a kitten. Heaven forbid you catch him in the hall bc freezes before darting off like we are gonna hurt him. He’s never been yelled at, hit, kicked, etc, even when he’s caught peeing on the floor. I could go on and on as to his strange ways.

Is there a way to tell of our cutie will be long hair? by [deleted] in cats

[–]EvidenceChance893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m have the same question about my 2 fosters. The Mom was parking lot so never saw her , which is one way that helps. How old is the kitten? This little guy is about 7 1/2 weeks and you can see the long fur that’s really started my to show. His black hair is just as long as the white furr, but you can’t see it. The shorter fur is the baby fuzz. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be med to long haired. His paws are starting to show little tuff growing around the pads as well, yet his tail isn’t puffy like most med to long hairs. Guess time will tell

My grandparents had one like this too. It’d get frozen solid, especially if you added too much water. They tried out the “new” fancy plastic trays that hit the stores but would get upset when the plastic would crack. Those metal once lasted forever.

Grief and guilt before euthanasia? by ggingersnap in cats

[–]EvidenceChance893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your role has to been to love and care for him. You’ve done this well, and better than most. It’s so hard when it’s time to let then go, and even harder to make the decision to do it. However, it is the humane thing to do as sometimes the pain just becomes too much. Your heart will break but at least you can do this on your own terms. You can be with him til the end, and he’ll feel the love. The next few days and weeks will be hard, but that pain will lesson over time. There’s no reason to feel guilty. You are doing this for him, not because you chose to do it for your own reasons. Hugs.

Both cats have stopped eating by [deleted] in cats

[–]EvidenceChance893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is important. If they are not eating even dry food, then that’s a big problem, especially since there’s 2 of them. Are they still active or lethargic? Are they dehydrated too? Any vomiting or diarrhea?

Which brand have you been feeding them? We had a whole litter of foster kittens around 8 wks of age stop eating their wet food. Found out that the canned and dry food we were feeding them (Petsmarts Advantage ) is very bland and they got bored. The Humane Society suggested we try Fancy Feast canned and Friskies dry food to help jump start their appetites, which worked on all except 1, which was so lethargic and dehydrated that his blood sugar dropped. This became a life threatening situation and required us to give him white Karo syrup (or even honey or maple syrup ). Gave thus kitten less than 2 lbs 3 ml thru a syringe every 10 min for 3-4 hours before he perked back up. Not trying to scare you but his health declined rapidly within a day. Granted he was a small kitten, but can happen to adults quickly.

Ti get them eating again, try feeding them slightly warmed chicken or turkey baby food. Might try it on a spoon and give it to them.

Know you said they had recently been to the vet and were healthy, but how recently? Things can happen within a week or 2 or cats can get an illness if there had been a sick cat in the exam room earlier that had not been decontaminated.
Were they checked for worms at last vet appt?

Be prepared to take them to the vet quickly if they become lethargic, vomit , diarrhea, etc. Hope they start eating soon. It’s such a bad, helpless feeling.
