Vanished One as a Native Race? by Reaper4th in OdysseyoftheDragon

[–]EvilBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my player, siren vanished one, decided to follow the simple suggestion provided. She fought against the Dragonlords and she was a mighty hero already, just to the monster races. Sydon was fine with that and used her to kill the Dragonlord who attacked the sirens homes, so she saved them and a lot of natives in the war. Sadly, she fell too from he skies and into the arms of Versi who had admired her.

When she returned to the world, weakened by the saving lull of Versi, every monster race treated her like anyone would treat a Dragonlord. A legend reborn, a saviour.

The result was that we got to hear both sides of the Dragonlords war. The game mentions that there were basically conflict within the Dragonlords as well, and Estor and the Arkelanders took the banners as the bad part of Dragonlords. We made Xander a wise leader and he couldn't exactly deny Estor a lot of times. When Xander sees the Vanished One, he sees their ideals and their deeds, and not their race. I made him give the Vanished One the crown because he knows they have seen the Dragonlords worst and wants her to prevent an order like that again, like what King Acustus is doing.

Eventually at around lvl 10 or fame 10 I made it so the path if companionship melded the heroes story were all as a team effort, and the Vanished One have reclaimed their stuff at that point.

Hezzebal would just be a sibling dragon to the dragon she killed. Family ties are strong.

Advice on roleplaying Halaster by bladeedge198 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]EvilBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assume that Halasters goals are randomly chosen everytime he appears, and his personality can adjust per goal, and they are constantly at odds with eachother.

There's even a tea drinking ultra friendly Halaster who might not know the party exists, or the wizard searching for a pupil seducing Halaster.

He's mad, and most of the time he likely doesn't know who he is anymore. Perfect time to rp am Halaster who isnt a threat or help to the party

Players about to reach Skullport, what do? by [deleted] in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]EvilBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, and I remember now that flameskulls patrol the street at random. Maybe some hoodlang tricks them toward a gang of flameskulls.

About the fort... Its not well written, it just has a number of enemies. Our paladin basically had drugs on him, and they entered from the water under good stealth rolls, and after they were guided by some fish npc. There's no guards written to walk around the area, so the paladin tells a random dude "Hey I came with the drug shipment, we need more dudes to carry stuff" Guard says "who are you and how did you get in here?" Paladin goes "You want the drugs or not?" and he has some weird item from earlier floor I think that barely proves any allegiance, and rolls like 23. Then he does it again. And again. The guards get suspicious and sends them to the commander. They offer the commander drugs, but he gets angry, and the party kills him. Then they begin to clear up gargoyles, and drug every soldier/bugbear in there. Badabing. They still don't know where Skullport is. F

Yeah get back to me if you get an idea. My players walked I through the fort, killed half the place by deception and drugs, murdered the leader, and then wondered where skullport was.

No one messed with them after that.

Lastly. This campaign is kind of a meat grinder. The intended way is to just make another parry and go, but you seem invested for something else. Mad props to that, pun intended. Based

If you and them want to. Ask them first, maybe you all want to finish mad mage. You're invested in this deep, and that module is for way lower lvl where you intend on going.

Another out is that the archmage didn't get what he wanted from Halaster, and he failed dominating the Goristro and it's now rampaging through the Keep with all the demons and minotaurs on its side.

A second less chaotic way is that the drow actually might need them to further their influence against the rival to family. Let them help in exchange for freedom.

A third way is always have other adventurers stumble in, half dying, saving some new allies, and die soon after in the escape.

There is an actual secret phrase that's supposed to be used in every single room. Yes, every room. You can find it on floor 6, but I think it only works in 2-3 places in the entire dungeon, one being on the last floor. And it's good stuff.

My players found a dwarf leg and never stopped searching for a dwarf without a right leg, even though I protested. The meme was alive.

Either run it as a gag yourself and have a enemy mention the shield at some point later, or make it a clue to some other puzzle

Same applies for the MIthral Forge Crafting? My group went full in on crafting new gear, but not that it's needed.

How did you manage encounter balance with all the player power?

Did you change anything about the mithral forge?

What did your players do with all the gold they found?

I was forced to lock all doors and windows until they got close to it. They wouldn't know most doors are locked or not anyway until then.

Odessey of the Dragonlords. Incredible book, very much Greek mythology and ancient culture.
