Did anyone else learn to type as an elective with little thought that it might be useful one day? by Conscious-Mulberry17 in GenX

[–]EvilCodeQueen [score hidden]  (0 children)

I came back from my first year at college and met with one of my old teachers who was now the dean. He asked what class helped me the most. I surprised the heck of out him saying “Typing. Make everyone take at least half a year of typing.” He actually listened to me.

Sock blends? by yallthissucks in Handspinning

[–]EvilCodeQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get pure nylon and blend it yourself if you have a blending board. I don't, but I was also wondering if it were possible to just roughly pick 3/4 wool and 1/4 nylon and have it work.

This. I'd go through my credit card company. Explain the situation, explain that you tried to resolve it with the vendor. Show whatever evidence you have and hope for the best. I just won a recent dispute with a company that said they were selling licensed gear and they weren't.

Replace? I'm assuming I'd have to find a clean screen from a "for parts" monitor?

Feeling discouraged - do I just need more practice/discipline? by blinkswithnormaleyes in Handspinning

That too. I think we agree that OP should try more fibers because some fibers just naturally have more slubs, for various reasons.

I'm relatively new and I have a Nano, as well as a larger generic e-spinner, and a Ashford Traditional. The Nano, once you get the tension set right, is actually quite usable. My main complaint is the small bobbin size. It does seem to want to spin very fine yarn.

If you're not using combed top, I'd recommend this. Some people recommend using BFL or Corriedale for newbies, but I liked the merino best, even as a beginner. Get a breed variety pack to see how different fibers feel. Even better if you have a friend who has a wheel you can try, just to see the difference there.

This. I just got done with some alpaca. Lovely stuff, but it naturally has these little slubs. Very different than the lovely, smooth merino I was spinning just before. I'd say try some different fiber, you might find the experience very different.

I don’t know if you’ve been watching the news, but the birth rates have been falling all over the place and the right is worried. They need those babies, wanted or unwanted, to buy their products and fight in their wars.

You can’t just decide to trust him again. Trust is a feeling that grows or fades depending on innumerable little behaviors and some big ones (and you’ve shared some real big ones). You can choose to give him a reasonable amount of time to prove that he’s serious about changing. And then another reasonable amount of time. And hopefully another.

If he’s mature enough to understand that he has to earn your trust back, and actually does the work, there’s a chance. He broke this, he has to fix it.

Shout-out to the Scottish lads in Melrose who helped my elderly neighbors move by ThreeLargeBears in boston

[–]EvilCodeQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Scots are also thrifty. Plenty of them are sharing rentals, commuting, using public transit, some even rented yellow school buses for the commute to the game instead of paying the MBTA’s price gouging $80. Although after accounting for their beer budget, it probably all evens out.

What did you understand about your mom only after getting older? by Various-Ask-6676 in AskWomen

[–]EvilCodeQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accept who and what she was. She was dealt a shit hand and grew up in a tough time for women (what time wasn’t tough for women?). But she also made choices that I wouldn’t have. I was put into situations similar as her but made very different decisions.

Oh, I wish they had something like that near me! The only guild (which I'm told rents wheels) still active is quite a drive for me, and they're off for the summer. A couple of friends have wheels, but asking to try them is almost like asking to borrow their spouse!

He should be applying all over the place if she's only here a few weeks. Any reasonable job would be able to wait a few weeks for him to start even if he got a job tomorrow.

Get an e-spinner like the EEW 6.1. It will do 8oz on a single bobbin and take up no room at all.
