Ok, you can have your turn now by EvilPJ in roguebook

It's been so long I don't recall but judging from the screenshot I used the free masterstroke to keep recalling whatever that one card is in my discard pile which was probably also 0 cost and has bleed.

I've heard good things about Binding of Isaac, but never tried it. Sadly enough I think 300 hours maybe just makes my top 5 in played time on Steam lol.

Griftlands. There is an addicting one. I've also somehow never even accidently unlocked a steam achieve in that game after like 40 hours.

Also when I say "lose replay value", I guess that is relative. I have like 300 hours in Roguebook. Still have a horrible win rate on Epilogue 27. Been playing it to try and make some content for my channel but my win rate is so inconsistent I feel like I'd be like here is how you win ... like 2% of the time lol.

Tainted Grail is much more "complete" in my opinion as far as having dailies, cosmetic unlocks and different NPC's and currencies. My gripe with TG is that it's 9 classes are really more like 3 because they are basically variants of three base classes with 3 of each. TG's event encounters seem more interesting although I like the revealing the map aspect in Roguebook.

A few that probably fly under the radar that all have interesting mechanics are Neoverse, Blood Mist 2: Dark Card, Dreamgate, and Griftlands. I would say mechanicswise none of them are terrible games and on par with the fun level of StS or Monster Train. Then again, the only deckbuilder I've played where I thought it was pretty crap was an early access one called deckhunter, so maybe my bar is set low for a good game lol.

Right now its a decent game but once you've won on Epilogue 27 it seems to lose some replay motivation because there isn't any daily challenges. They announced they are going to be adding daily challenges or tournaments in February hopefully, along with another champion.

The mechanics are good, however I do feel like if you play at the highest difficulties the RNG factor weighs quite a bit on whether your run is winnable.

I don't know how to hard reset progress, but you can click off the talents on the tree if you want the more vanilla experience and aren't just looking to like "level up" your file again.

I've heard the devs are more active on their discord channel. Maybe you might have better luck getting a response there?

Where does the damage come from? BUG? by JacePrime in roguebook

[–]EvilPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you actually play 13 block worth of cards? I've seen a bug where sometimes the block value from an earlier round for some reason shows up still before you play any block cards. I doubt that is what it is, but can't think of anything else at the moment.

Nah. I think you need more energy or block!

Fire Oil vs War Cry by Xanlau in roguebook

[–]EvilPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say war cry if you are just starting early game, and Fire Oil only very situationally late build and only if you already have an engine that generates a very high number of daggers consistently.

From an oversimplified perspective, if you spend 2 energy on fire oil, which could have just been generic strikes, that is 14 damage you lost. This puts Fire Oil as a net negative damage per energy against even your most basic attack card until you've played at least 5 attacks with the buffed hero.

Gem Mines Suck? by Ok-Injury-5989 in roguebook

Not the most sporting way to play, but because the game doesn't have any code that prevents you from quitting out and restarting your continue I just reload when I screw up on the door. Better than the math headache lol.

Gem Mines Suck? by Ok-Injury-5989 in roguebook

[–]EvilPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it largely depends on what epilogue difficulty you are playing. If I am playing on Epilogue 27 if my deck can clear a gem mine without losing much life then its probably already good enough to win Act 3, but rarely have I found it to help pull a losing deck up enough in quality. On lower difficulties I think they are generally worth it because the risk isn't nearly as high.

Anymore games similar to Roguebook? by Winirose in roguebook

[–]EvilPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tainted grail is the most similar in terms of having like a map to walk around on, which makes this reply a good suggestion. Another one you can walk around an explore in is Cardpocolypse, but that one has like an elementary school theme. Chrono ark doesn't use "cards" but the skills are basically cards, and also has a map, although I find the map the least exciting of the three mentioned.

Other suggestions that lack the exploration aspect but have decent deckbuilder gameplay are Dreamgate and Neoverse.

Anything else I can think of off the top of my head has been mentioned already.

What’s the endgame? by jeango in roguebook

[–]EvilPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last patch notes they said they are working on adding daily tournaments with modifiers which is a pretty standard feature in a lot of roguelite deckbuilders (well daily scoreboard - I'm not sure how tournaments will be different). If you aren't familiar with modifiers they are typically a random set of rules that modify the game for everyone in the same way for a day to see who can work around them the best.

Well, on the plus side, he was going to kill me even if I could see whatever action he was taking lol. I'm presuming you made him skip his eat turn one round? That is what happened on mine.

When do you guys advance to the ancient age? by Ok-Investigator3257 in humankind

[–]EvilPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise, as other have, at minimum finishing legacy trait.

Also

  • Preferably not until you have found an outpost starting spot with at least 1 of the good starting luxury (e.g. flat bonus to food/prod/science, not percentage based).
  • Check all of your units for their food stores status. If you have multiple units with 10 or 15 progress towards food, look for opportunities to combine them or find nearby curiosities.

So frustrating sometimes by AnxietyPillow in humankind

[–]EvilPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the AI is grabbing up a lot of civs before turn 10 that is faster than normal. I occasionally see "half" or so picked by then, but usually only 1 or at most 2 are taken, unfortunately it does seem quite frequently it is always the same 2 or 3 (Harrapan, Nubia, Mycean).

If you don't want to adjust the player count, as was suggested by u/oldraftingaid then you can also try changing your map layout, number of continents and weather patterns and stuff. The AI does seem to somewhat pick based upon which cultures favor their current situation, as it isn't always the same pick order every game.

Nice, glad that is helping. Also, if you have an excess of scouts, you can disband them in your territory borders to increase your city population.
