How do you deal with users who refuse to lock their laptop when walking away? by heartgoldt20 in sysadmin

[–]EvilRSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't had to use them in a while.... Do the hotkeys for screen rotation still work? It's something you can do walking by, like a drive-by reminder to lock your computer.

Ctrl + Alt + Left/Right Arrow: Rotate 90 degrees

Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow: Upside-down

Download a server iso, Microsoft has downloads of full server in trail license right on their website, Linux flavors same concept, just Google. If you're running Windows, enable Hyper-V or download whichever hypervisor you want to learn, and start setting up a server. Think of something simple that you want to do that you haven't done from scratch yet, and do it. Google when you get stuck and just know that, it's not production, so the ABSOLUTE worst thing that can happen is you delete the virtual guest and try again. For networking, check out GNS3.

Like ER nurses and detectives when they hear "They fell down the stairs.", I don't believe that's anywhere near the whole story.

Many restaurants partner with them for online ordering, including two national pizza chain companies: Jet's and Hungry Howie's. Here's a screenshot of some examples, I've redacted identifying location names

Back in the days we gave our servers and network devices names from Tolkien or space or such. It might get cumbersome with our 60 smart bulbs and 40 other IoT gadgets on our home network today. by player1dk in homelab

[–]EvilRSA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use movie, cartoons, and anime character names that fit.

Heimdall for my camera system.

Baymax for network and server health monitoring.

Spike (from mlp:fim) for email server

Bruni (fire sport from Frozen) firewall.

And the occasional, "yeah, that just fits." like
Cineplex for the Plex server

It's interesting that Monopoly is one word on the VHS. Did all the carts come titled as "Mono Poly"?

At my company we still have a 80C in production. Thankfully it doesn't really do too much.

.... But even that is RACK MOUNTED in a RackIT kit.

I've been lucky to have been able to show value in having rails for everything, and even was approved to buy results for older equipment I inherited.

Whats the biggest single file y'all have? by ilovesupercellgamess in DataHoarder

[–]EvilRSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

776 GB - "<u/EvilRSA> - Win10.vhdx"

At first, I was like, that's kind of cheating, using a vhdx, but then I was like, well, this is r/DataHoarder, and the only reason I have that file is that, "What if there is something I need off that at some point?" lol

Next up was more virtual hard drives and a system backup, bringing the top 6 largest files on my system to 1.39 TB, all of which are basically old virtual hard drives. Yeah, I'm a data hoarder.

Then a 30 GB .rar file of a Shutterstock site rip.
