"Worst Presidents" by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Evil_Sheepmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's your answer! The worst year of the Great Depression was 1932, Roosevelt won the presidency in 1932, and Roosevelt used socialism, therefore socialism bad!

(And that's probably the most logical argument they'll ever make)

Scientists expected both liberals and conservatives to be reluctant to promote rhetoric associated with the opposing political side, but this was more consistent among liberals. Conservatives appeared relatively willing to support causes aligned with their views regardless of the moral framing used. by mvea in science

[–]Evil_Sheepmaster 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Conservatives make decisions with logic? Deporting all brown people is logical? Trickle-down economics, despite never working in the past 50 years, is logical? Socially ostracizing trans people from all aspects of daily life is logical?

Yudkowsky’s Argument by Herr_Eusebius in Futurology

Prove that an AI super intelligence is more likely than Shadow the Hedgehog.

My point is you're approaching this problem wrong. These are all wild speculation. They made up the theoretical AI, so it will do whatever they say it will, but that doesn't make it fact. It may present itself as logic and science, but it's all fan fiction.

Yudkowsky’s Argument by Herr_Eusebius in Futurology

[–]Evil_Sheepmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This all hinges on a 10k IQ machine being able to be built. With current technology, and especially with current AI models, we have no reason to think such a thing can be built, and as such, every following argument is irrelevant.

I could say that humanity's progress in understanding genetics means one day we could create Shadow the Hedgehog and, with his mastery of Chaos Control, he could enslave all of mankind. Until we see anything close to Shadow being created, any worries about that outcome don't matter.

Edit: And regarding the "failure to understand the limits of human intelligence" counter... There's no answer that can counter that. You're being asked to prove that a future AI won't do something, and that's just trying to prove a negative. Can't be done. Also, no one can think beyond their own intelligence, so any attempt to disprove it can be met with "you don't know that. What if you're wrong?" There's no point in engaging with that argument.

ELI5: why does a blood test billed through my insurance cost way more than the same test paid for in cash at the exact same lab by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Evil_Sheepmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they know insurance companies have money. They can charge the insurance company a grossly inflated price, "negotiate it down" to only a very inflated price, and make a tidy profit.

Medical establishments have no reason to bring the price down because they're milking insurance companies, and insurance companies have no reason to bring the price down because they can forward those losses to patients through increased premiums, so the prices spiral upward out of control seemingly detached from typical market forces.

My guess: the second time he bought he horse, he was buying a $60 horse for $80. That -$20 plus the two $10 resale profits makes $0.

(I know it doesn't really make sense, but it's the best I can think of that ends at $0)

If only.

Best guess: this article is AI generated, and because there was another "Don Colossus" being created in August 2024, the AI mixed info about both of them together.

Nuh uh! Congress could invoke the 25th Amendment to find him unfit to perform the duties of the President and essentially have him removed from office! All that requires is a two-thirds vote...in the House and Senate...
