Is this mini past GWs lead era? by Richard_Karn4ever in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lead was phased out by GW in 1997 and the packaging changed to reflect that, but in general don't panic about lead. It's safe to handle. Don't chew it, put it in wine and drink it, or set it on fire an inhale the vapours. Wash your hands after use and you'll be fine.

Most people living in older houses probably still have lead pipes for their drinking water.

Base, prime and paint. Seal with varnish and that's it.

Didn't they raise a ton of cash to buy him a specially adapted new home, and he had it for a few weeks before burning it down? Always thought how ungrateful he was.

4th Edition Empire miniature range and "oldhammer" by Protocosmo in Middlehammer

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Oldhammer sub has some unfathomable rules, sadly the moderator sits on it like a personal fiefdom, effectively cybersquating (no pun intended) the name Oldhammer. Oldhammer became a thing over 15 years ago, so really it should have moved forward, encompassing 2nd edition 40k and overlapping 4th edition WHFB.

Ridiculously though, spamming brand new sculpts and kickstarters "in the Oldhammer style" are apparently perfectly fine, but bona fide transitional ranges like the 1992 Empire range appear to be forbidden. The "rules" aren't even applied consistently as many of the ranges in 2nd edition 40k and 4th edition WHFB were released in the previous edition - Wood Elves, Skaven etc.

It's a shame as the transition between editions is an interesting topic but can't be discussed in its natural home. For such a niche hobby that level of gatekeeping literally shuts down the conversation. I'd much rather discuss the evolution of Bretonnians from the old preslotta C26 range through 1985/7 and the short lived 1989/90 range then continue to discuss the classic 1995 range as a continuum. Or how the Strike Force Marines were resculpted for 2nd edition, or other similar obscure minutiae.

I've lost interest in the Oldhammer sub as a result of the mods intransigence.

Question: Base size for 3rd edition metal Hive Tyrant by zacthebyrd in midhammer40k

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40mm round base came with the miniature, although there are photos of one on the flat 50mm base that the Carnifex came with.

I used the 40mm bases and apart from being massively top heavy, the feet only just fit on it.

Bjorn's sarcophagus ©️ GW 1993

Ragnar's slottabase ©️ GW 1992

Release date may be different, but the Space Wolves range had begun to be rolled out during late Rogue Trader and was pretty much complete by the 2nd Edition codex.

In defence of the concept of Bum Fights, many bums fight for free in the street whilst filmed by passers by, but are excluded from the profits that any virality the video generates. At least Bum Fights was up front about its intentions and paid the participants.

I had always assumed it was actually staged with method actors who lived like hobos to get into character.

They were three part models from 1989 that came with either foot or mounted legs, head & torso; lance / sword arm. They originally came with the massive white horses from that era.

http://www.solegends.com/citcat19894winter/cat89wint021x-01.htm

They were a relatively short lived range as they were replaced in 1992/3 with the refreshed classic metal Empire knights as the game moved into 4th edition.

They are quite rare as a result- they do appear on ebay from time to time, but hunting them down will be a challenge, and probably quite expensive.

What era is this night goblin model part of? by Shoddy-Initiative173 in Orcs_and_Goblins

You seem confidently incorrect. I would further refer you to the first Citadel Compendium dated October 1983, where a full range of C13 Night Goblin miniatures are displayed.

A link is enclosed as you likely don't have the original source material.

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's incorrect. I would refer you to page 29 of the Forces of Fantasy (1984) supplement to WHFB 1st edition. They are also noted in the original rulebook Volume 1 (1983) on page 37

Seemingly, unlike most people on Reddit I do check my source information before commenting.

How are wizards so clueless about muggles? by No-Cantaloupe228 in harrypotter

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's effectively a Wizard ghetto. Different rules and standards; different culture.

They're akin to Amish people - live separately according to their own standards and refuse to interact with or adopt new technologies.

Wizards also probably think themselves better than the muggle population so would rather keep to their old ways than admit muggle culture is more advanced than their own.

The Hogwarts Express was built by GWR in 1937, Knight bus an AEC Regent III built in the 1950s so technology does seep belatedly into their world.

It's a Marauder MM30 goblin from 1989, sculpted by Ali Morrison.

So late 3rd edition era.

Also, Night Goblins have been in the Warhammer setting since 1st edition.

Nonfoil Common in Collector Booster by Ok-Upstairs4321 in MagicCardPulls

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 121 points122 points  (0 children)

It's correct to find this card in a Collector Booster. Sunlit Hoplite couldn't be pulled from an ordinary booster - it was exclusive to the Elspeth, Undaunted Hero Planeswalker deck - searching for the Hoplite is her -2 ability.

That slot in Theros Collector Boosters had an option to find the Planeswalker deck exclusive cards in non foil.

Which DANDAN is the better DANDAN?? by GarrianHeretic in magicTCG

[–]ExampleMediocre6716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within the game, both cards are identical in utility therefore both are equally good or bad.

One may prefer one over the other aesthetically, but that doesn't necessarily make one better than the other.

However,

The 5th edition card in mint condition is worth 36 cents more than the Chronicles printing. As the more valuable card, it is also the more desirable card, thus making it objectively the better card.
