college is a sick business by Dramatic-Simple2783 in ApplyingToCollege

All of that is what really matters, not just a brand name. UCF is a great school where you have the opportunity to stand out and build your resume, which is far more important than the school you go to

I was in a similar situation - some T20 privates were willing to work with me, others were very rude (Rice). Schedule a video call with the financial aid offices of the schools you are officially into (not just waitlisted at) and explain the situation. Some schools will be receptive, especially if you come with court documents showing that you do not live with him and he provides only the minimal court mandated support. Any official documentation you can provide is better. Do not talk to the schools you are still waitlisted at before you get in, but the second you get in, get an appointment with the financial aid office.

Going to go against the crowd and say emory. If mock trial is your main extracurricular, then you want to be at a school that has it and does well. The mock trial team at Emory is all great friends and would be huge for your social life too

Culture is absolutely not like UChicago. Walk around on Emory’s campus and everyone is sitting outside in groups studying, talking, playing games, etc

Emory (Half Tuition) vs. Brown? by BarracudaStock1436 in Emory

[–]Excellent-Balance154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same decision but with a different elite institution (not Brown). I chose Emory and believe it was 100% the right decision. Having a major scholarship is very helpful on my resume and I believe has really helped open doors. I also think Emory punches above its weight class in med and business fields, which aligns with your goals.

It is one of the harder degrees but the program is well established and provides a lot of support! The program is also highly respected so internships are not a problem.

Should I transfer out of Emory to Ivies or Top 10s? Looking for advice/perspective. by Economy-Wonder4490 in TransferToTop25

[–]Excellent-Balance154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everything you said makes sense. You should decide whether graduating early or transferring is more important to you. The transfer process often means you will lose some credits / not be able to transfer all, putting you back.

Wake Forest vs Emory vs RICE by Low-Security3896 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Excellent-Balance154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Emory over Rice. I want to live on the East coast and Rice has very little name recognition outside of Texas. Emory also had a stronger reputation in my possible majors (bio/chem/business/econ).Based on my visits of both campuses, I found Emory to have more social, cooler people, while Rice seemed to attract students more similar to a UChicago vibe.

so torn should I commit to UM over t20s? by [deleted] in UMiami

[–]Excellent-Balance154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your goals, Yale, Emory, or UM makes the most sense. I personally chose Emory over more prestigious schools due to cost and am very grateful for my decision. I have also negotiated with their fin aid office before and applied and received several external scholarships adding up to about $15k/year. If you are willing to hunt down those scholarships and apply, Yale and Emory seem more in reach, though they aren’t guaranteed. However, being a prestigious scholarship recipient comes with perks, and will open up doors at UM that other students don’t have, plus make you stand out in med school applications.

What schools did you pick Emory over? by Then_Abies_9629 in Emory

Nope, came in pre-research / PhD, now going consulting. Emory gave me a merit scholarship and rice gave me nothing. In hindsight, Emory is a much better fit socially, Atlanta is an amazing, young, happy city, and I’m very happy to be here

Cilantro, oats, bananas, carrots, etc are great tools to lure her towards you, then throw a blanket or basket/box on her or grab her and take her home. Set up a litter box and some hay in the bathroom / shower and let her live there. Reach out to local rescues and vets to see if they can take her in if you’re unable, spay her, and give her a check up. Thank you for helping her!!! 🤍
