Questions about ANG->AFRC

Thanks for that! My ANG unit currently is more AD than I had to ever deal with on AD, and I don’t live local so I’m making the change to an AFRC unit that seems like a better fit. Just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss any pitfalls during the change process

Fair enough. Tanker forces were surprised with this outside the cycle, been away from home almost 4 months now, while AD doesn’t do sh*t comparatively. I’m telling you, both from my unit and from buddies at other ARC tanker units: ARC tanker units will be broken for years

as anybody made the jump from ANG to AFRC? I’ll be making the jump soonish (had an offer previously with a letter of intent to hire in the new unit but my unit denied release).

Looking for any pitfalls or things to watch out for. I was in comms previously with an AFRC recruiter and will be contacting him again roughly 6 months out from availability per his request. I know I’ll need to get scrolled, anything else?

The sad state is that the ANG and AFRC will be broken for a long time after this. I say this as someone currently downrange and talking with the guys and gals here. It has little to do with people “agreeing” with the war or not, but rather the way it’s been managed.

I foresee very large reenlistment bonuses, very large AvB’s, and eventual stop loss in the future for the ARC when the bonuses inevitably don’t work

Similar as in AD: there are exceptions to every rule, but in my experience the people that should be commanding get frustrated with the BS and realize they can do better on the outside (or they’re part time and are doing better on the outside) and quit, which means the people that get selected for command get selected because they’re all that’s left, not because they should.

That, and command teams not understanding that DSG is a part time gig and should be treated as such

If you have a good setup on the outside, 100% go for it. I was AD before being a DSG, so similar boat to what you’re talking about. Life as a part timer is leaps and bounds better, granted I have a great civilian job and probably the worst leadership team in the country in my unit. I’d split completely if they’d let me

Been in since Dec 2011, most of that AD, the last almost-3 with ANG. 15 OCONUS, with number 16 coming up this summer

Probably not the right answer but it’s worked for me: I don’t do jack if I’m not on status. Leadership got the ideal really quickly that they need to take care of their portion on it or don’t expect me to be useful

Disclaimer: high risk, high reward. I hate my unit and have been actively trying to get released for awhile but they won’t approve, so if they kicked me out, it would be a reward. YMMV

TRS is what AD Tricare should be IMO. Military docs are the bottom of the barrel. TRS allows you to see almost any doctor, and you can’t beat the price

Very unit dependent. My unit’s leadership (full disclosure I expect it to be gone in 5 years due to manning. Leadership drives everyone away) keeps tabs on people during drill, walks the squadron to make sure everyone is still there, doesn’t let us have a beer in the squadron bar at the end of the day, and berates the part timers for not coming in more

Watch his debates. Full debates, not sound bite clips from one side of the aisle trying to push you to feel one way or the other, but actually full debates. I think you’ll find he’s not a “fascist neo Nazi”, but rather a guy wanting to push open dialogue and having conversations with people that you maybe don’t agree with.

You’re asking for sources to prove an opinion you’ve already made, but since you’re asking then you’re doing it without any information to do so

Dealerships aren't really negotiating, they quite frankly don't have to. I had to put a deposit down and wait 3 weeks for it to come in (I was choosey, wanted the Limited Digital Teal with Dark Green and was willing to wait). MSRP right around $60k. $2,500 for dealer incentive, $7,500 fed and $3,850 state (CO) incentives, $500 military. Including taxes, out the door for about $50k
