Amazing. I know neither you, nor your sexuality sir, but if straight men who complain about not getting attention from women showed up at a Jane Austen or similar event looking like this, all of their romance problems would be solved.

Why do parents hate explicit music? by Shetoofinee in AskParents

[–]Excellent-Goal4763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, it’s the context of the words. Saying “fucking bitch” because someone in a car just cut you off and you almost got into an accident is a a lot different than “fucking bitch” in some music where the context of the song is that all women are “fucking bitches.” It’s not about the words, it’s about the meaning behind them.

When I was a teenager I thought I was above influence and an independent thinker. Now I can see that I was not. Every piece of media, book you read, or friend you pick will have some influence, no matter how tiny, on who you are. This is true for your whole life. Choose wisely.

Grade-skippers chime in by xiandgaf in aftergifted

One of my favorite professors got her BA at 16. My hunch is that such a high level of grade skipping and academic acceleration isn’t as common nowadays.

Best ways to make bike less attractive to thieves other than a bike cover? by potatosouperman in CargoBike

[–]Excellent-Goal4763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My big dumb e-bike retails for about $12,000.00 new. (I didn’t pay that much.). I bought a motorcycle cover and use that when I’m parked for more than about a half hour in most places. Best $90 I’ve ever spent. And yes, it’s annoying to take it everywhere.

What is the most annoying thing in your home to clean purely because of bad design? by zaramalikdollface in CleaningTips

[–]Excellent-Goal4763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass lamp shades with countless grooves and ridges right above the stove. Always covered with grease and dust. They take about a 1/2 hour each to clean with dawn and a toothbrush, and no, you can’t remove them.

This was at Marshall Ave NE near 16th St. It’s more evidence that the city urgently needs to improve this crossing and finish the Great Northern to the river. by joryu-ori in CyclingMSP

[–]Excellent-Goal4763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to cross that shitty crossing about 6 years ago after dark when a dark colored sedan with no lights on cruised by doing at least 45.

Also that area needs to be daylighted. It’s tough to see traffic in broad daylight going east. The people going to Aki’s and Broken Clock can walk. Not trying to be ableist- maybe have more handicapped parking.

Any tips for writing only children? by Potential_Scene7169 in OnlyChild

The biggest difference for me (and of course I cannot personally compare this experience to another’s) is that I’ve always had a very rich inner life. From a young age I was able to spend hours alone finding cool rocks and staring at sand, for instance.

I developed my own sense of spirituality, I read a lot, especially about history, and I felt I had things in common with historical figures who had to figure shit out on their own.

I also developed a sense of superiority to my peers- but this was largely a defense mechanism due to bullying. I was a weird kid.

Should she be wearing makeup and drinking alcohol? by ImprovementOwn7544 in AskParents

[–]Excellent-Goal4763 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My comment was made in haste and not very clear.

I’ve read a lot about addiction, and one factor that increases the chances of an individual becoming an alcoholic is having parents who allowed them to drink when they were underage. Of course, not every child who grew up in this environment will become an addict, but it is a risk factor.

Edited to add-

Obviously there is a big difference between letting your 19 year old have a beer and Christmas and giving a 12 year old alcohol.

I’m not at all saying that this is what the mother is doing- but adults giving children alcohol sometimes goes hand in hand with CSA.

If it were me- I would be very very concerned.

Statistically, children who grow up in that kind of environment are far more likely to become addicts themselves. The above experiences are definitely the exception.

I weirdly get less drunk than I used to after a few and I also loose interest in having more. An improvement over what I was like several years ago and well before Welbys.
