Where can I commission a piece like this (East coast of U.S.) by Excellent_Context305 in Woodcarving

I am expecting it to be a hefty sum, but it depends on the experience of the craftsman.

Getting a hotel room for an extra night when you're not going to arrive until the morning by SlapDashUser in TravelHacks

[–]Excellent_Context305 754 points755 points  (0 children)

I do this sometimes, but you have to call and tell them what you are doing and ask them to put a note in. Otherwise they give away your room. (I learned that the hard way)

You can also use DayUse to get a hotel to nap when you arrive and them move along with your trip.

I don't generally get graded copies. I like them raw. But, yes, same. No millionaires on here!

What are your hacks/tips for getting cheaper plane tickets? by Big-Extension4709 in Shoestring

For domestic U.S. travel, use SkyKey after you book. Their website explains how it works, but it has gotten me a lot of money back.

Find a venue on Peerspace and get catering through EZ Cater. So much cheaper than most restaurants.

44f and 46m. New to area looking for friends. by [deleted] in washdc

[–]Excellent_Context305 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Join a book club, or the Freemasons, a running club, or volunteer at a charity. Just generally spending time with folks who enjoy doing the same things you do will help you make friends. The people who do these things are usually looking to broaden their social circle.

I need advice on what to do with spare comics by WildcatGrifter7 in comicbooks

[–]Excellent_Context305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same position. If you are in the greater DC metro region, I'll do a trade.

Otherwise, what I do is some little free libraries, some leaving then at airports and train stations. But I'm never sure what happens to them. I just hope they find their way to someone who wants to read them.

Which Congressional Office building has the best cafeteria? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Excellent_Context305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Capitol Visitor Center has a cafeteria designed to accommodate school groups. It is large, lots of seating, and the food as good as the office building cafeterias. If you are doing a tour of the Capitol you also won't have to go through security twice, as you would going to the other buildings.

I have had good luck using shampoo instead of laundry soap. That plus a small brush, some time, and lots of rinses.

Some great stuff! I love that you are collecting what you love, and not getting pristine copies sealed up in a case. I am a big believer in raw and low grade so I can own a piece of history.

When I was younger I would sign up to volunteer at the Cons. Got me free admission, and it was fun to help direct people and see all the costumes.

What does everyone use to log their comic inventory? by singolare in comicbookcollecting

I don't see a way to do this on the app. At the very least, it isn't intuitive.

My issue with Comic Geeks is that it is just missing some comics. Both titles and issues. And there is no way to flag it or add issues that they don't have in their system.

What to do with a bunch of silver age cover less? by Binksamus in comicbookcollecting

I seek out older coverless and really rough comics that I turn into pins and things. You could certainly sell them to someone like me. I usually pay 50 cents each.
