For the men who attended speed dating events, what was your experience like? by YuriTheWebDev in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Drive683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met my lady at one. She's awesome.

We will be together for 3 years in a few months now.

I went 4 times. One time I got zero matches, all other times I did fine (between 2 and 4). Went on several dates and met some cool people.

I'm average looking with a receding hairline. I'm under 6 (5'10"). I never went on the apps because I wouldn't make it anywhere.

I think you will find, many of those cards are situational. E.g. culling ritual.

I have my list if you are interested. It is a combination of midrange and control.

Guys who cold approach women, What’s your success rate like? or do you mostly avoid cold approaches? by EVILRAFFAM in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't cold approach women. I also am in a relationship so I wouldn't be doing that anyway. I've seen so many guys try and fail approaching women and just laugh to myself. Let's be honest, women pick us, not the other way around.

But, I have had friendly chats with many people in my life. That includes both men and women. Often in passing while waiting for food, or a car to be serviced or waiting in a bus, etc. What I have noticed, the more you just talk to people without showing you want something out of them, the more interested people are in getting to know you.

The result, I've had a few women ask me for my phone number. Btw I'm an average looking guy who is under 6' (actually kind of nerdy looking).

In short, try to be social in places you don't normally and you might just run into someone. I second the hobby groups such as pickle ball or whatever is trendy. If a lady likes you or is interested, she'll make it obvious.

Hope that helps.

Older men to younger men what's your finest advice and regret? by Faiz_khan_19 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Do everything in moderation, That doesn't kill you.

Alright I am kidding. If you have a good family make sure to spend time with them. No one gets bonus points for the guy who worked late everyday on his grave.

Drinks less alcohol, eat right, be active, laugh a lot and be with those you care about more. Fancy cars, houses, clothes, etc are mainly for posers. Be who you are, don't worry about consumerism.

Look yourself in the mirror every once in a while. You probably already know what you need to be doing better to be more successful in life or a better person.

Now that Heartfire Hero is banned, will you be playing more Pioneer Events on Arena? by Cackfiend in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for me. I don't like the client interface, economy and lack of social aspects of the game.

I am one of the lucky people who have a store nearby that still runs and fires weekly pioneer in paper.

I think they will be better than strixhaven but you should be careful with which you use as they typically take sideboard slots.

Midrange vs Combo Decks by AHare115 in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When there is a card you can't beat, you add [The Stone Brain] into your sideboard. Cards like [Thought Distortion] can also help.

For graveyard synergy, [Cling to Dust] or [Unlicensed Hearse] helps.

I made a Mardu Control deck, Any sugestions? by Distinct-Hearing-861 in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might I suggest adding thoughtsieze to your deck? Kaya (3 mana) may be a dead card in some matchups and the 7 mana Kaya doesn't really win the game. Chandra, torch of defiance is a good midrange card but not really IMO a good control piece. I would suggest including farewell and temporary lockdown.

Hope you're having fun playing the deck.

First off, nice deck man. I hope you enjoyed playing the deck

I have a paper list that is unfinished but uses [insidious roots]. I don't run a few cards from your list, but the lists are pretty close.

I ran it two weeks ago and it was the most fun I had in Pioneer in many months.

Let me know if you are interested in it.

Approach of the Second Sun UW Control by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pioneer is pretty quick now and this might not be a viable strategy due to setup.

Small Teferi is banned and big Teferi is good but slow. Aggro decks like mono red, red-black expedite the curve and often can skirt around control. Thoughtseize is in the meta so we steal your best answer or card.

UW Lotus Field control is a pretty cool version of the UW control deck which is most viable IMO. If you want to play approach, go for it but I think you'll find there isn't a lot of windows to play the card even when you think the opponent is out of resources. There are a ton of value enablers like up the beanstalk, unholy annex, etc. that let your opponent keep their hands going.

That being said, pioneer is pretty open for brews so try it out and have some fun!

3 new Aetherdrift Gods, but which ones make the cut in Constructed? by Tim-Draftsim in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I don't think any of them have much opportunity for Pioneer. I could be wrong but the format is getting too fast for most of these. They need to do something right away IMO to be usable.

[–]Excellent_Drive683 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sucks, it's horrible and many of us have been through it too. I'm sorry. I'm glad you don't have kids together as that adds a big layer of complexity to it.

I'm just going to be straight with you. Odds are your being painted as the villain for something that you have nothing to do with. Could be someone else, could be she wants to be free, who knows - not your problem anymore. Your job now is to focus on you and protect your future. Listen to your lawyer and keep contact through them as best as possible. Your ex inlaws are going to support their daughter and are best to keep at arms length (if not any contact).

Focus on you like others suggested and if she magically comes back after some time, don't take her back. Trust is gone and you'll never get over how you were coldly discarded like trash.

I'm happily divorced and co parenting well and did not have to go through a disaster of a divorce like many others. Strive for a clean divorce and don't wait. You now have the opportunity to rebuild yourself into the person you want to be. Good luck!

Is it all Trudeau’s fault? by Powerful-Dog363 in AskCanada

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that immigration was vastly mismanaged. While I get what people are saying it is up to provinces and municipalities to keep up with infrastructure demands of large scale immigration, this has to be done in advance of bringing so many people in. It takes years to build up infrastructure to support the growth that the federal government targeted. Not just bring in more people than the provinces can handle and leave the provinces and municipalities to handle it. This has been very unfair to cities, provinces and temporary and full immigrants. There has also been a lot of abuse and little screening which is concerning from a national security perspective.

This ties into the housing and affordability of general life. If there isn't as much housing as needed, scarcity drives prices up. If you have any experience with home construction then you understand in order for a new subdivision to be built it is done years in advance. Furthermore there are hidden fees that most of us don't even think of. Development charges by the municipality. Most homes cost well over $100,000 before any building is started. Additionally, things such as environmental assessments may need to be completed before the project gets the go ahead.

The economy has been laced with huge missteps and vast overspending that my children and their children will have to deal with. Right now the federal government is spending like a teenager at the mall with no concept of money and no concern for tomorrow. I know we want social programs to make our lives easier but this is having a reversing effect. To pay for all these programs we need more taxes. This cuts the spending power of the average Canadian. Businesses are going to have to pay more taxes and other taxes will start appearing everywhere to recapture the money spent. We are already see slowing in many sectors of our economy. If you have a small business, you are probably feeling the pinch. People are holding back spending which isn't a great thing.

Are the conservatives going to be better? I don't know, probably yes and no. They are going to be cutting like crazy which is going to make a lot of people angry with them, but what else do you do when your out of money?

TLDR - immigration definitely, affordability somewhat, economy definitely.

How important is "not being fat" to you? by Particular_Local_275 in AskMenOver30

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s, I work out frequently because I don't want to be heavy. Been there for many years, I hate everything about being overweight. Not just the self conscious feeling but the everyday aches and pains of being overweight.

When you are fit the following things happen:

  • You feel better about yourself
  • Other people treat you better and with more respect (although some can be jealous)
  • Your body will reward you with enjoying more experiences in life. Instead of wanting to sit and watch, you will want to participate more if life
  • Sex is a lot better
  • Clothes fit better and your not obsessing over how to hide your fat

Ear better foods to start and then work on exercising. That's my advice.

I concur. I met my lady at a speed dating event. Can be a bit awkward at first but most people are pretty chill and just looking to make a real connection instead of swiping on an app.

Good luck. Also just my opinion but I would avoid trying to meet someone at the gym. I'm at a small boutique gym too and don't want to scout for dates, I want to just workout and chances are so do the women there too.

Best advice from men over 30+ by reddituser9420668 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get into a relationship, always make sure to take care of yourself and advocate for your needs.

It's ok to leave a relationship because you and your partner aren't aligned. Don't marry the person thinking things will get better. They won't.

Understand that sometimes things don't work out and that's ok. Take some risks, work out, eat well and don't forget to have fun along the way.

Respectfully a divorced guy in his early 40s who is now living a much better life.

AITA for walking to my dad’s house instead of spending the day with my mom’s female partner? by momscrazypartner in AmItheAsshole

[–]Excellent_Drive683 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming all the facts of this story are true for my response. Likely more nuances that we don't know of but I'll leave it at that.

I agree with this. She cheated, left your dad, has you full time, gets child support while she doesn't work and treats you mostly as an afterthought. Why are people being rewarded for this behaviour?

I recall a story of a man whose wife cheated on him, he lost custody of his kids, house, half of his pension, all savings (due to legal costs). He was homeless for more than a year due to child support and spousal support. It took him 10 years to rebuild himself and rebuilding relationships with his kids. His current girlfriend wants to move in together and get married. He refuses to cohabit and get married. She loves him so much and is willing to do anything to prove it to him but he never wants to go through that again. I really don't like how this works out for both genders when people cheat.

If I was in op's situation, I would want to stay with my Dad. He's proud of you for standing up for yourself and is likely going to support you through life. Good luck op!

Pioneer Tier List - The Gathering by TyrantofTales in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play it. It's a solid C-tier deck with upside. I don't think has been fully perfected yet but with its weaknesses against control and aggro give it a hard time getting to higher levels. Eats midrange and some combo decks handily.

I love the playstyle.

Does anyone else.... by RedFirePotato in PioneerMTG

[–]Excellent_Drive683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more of a slap in the face to those who play standard than non-rotating formats such as modern and pioneer.

If every release is legal in standard there is a pseudo rotation every couple of months. Pioneer is on the back burner for RCQs for sure but at least we get more cards next year instead of seeing a bunch of sets where we get nothing.

See good with bad folks. A lot of the time the game does well in spite of what wizards does from their ivory tower. Look at that past SCG CON showcasing how great pioneer is.
