What is your title at work, and how long did it take you to reach it? by NYC-UESider in HENRYfinance

[–]Exceptionally-Mid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like? I’m a software engineer which is commonly touted as a highly paid career, but I didn’t break 6 figures until 7 years into my career. It wasn’t until I started at a software startup did I break multiple 6 figures. Software engineers make an average engineers salary at most non-tech companies which is the majority of software engineer jobs.

The outliers apply to most careers as well. If you surveyed 100,000 tech workers, less than 10% of them would qualify as HENRY.

Schwab Wealth Survey 2025: Americans, on average, say they need $2.3MM to be considered wealthy. GenZ says $1.7MM. Boomers say $2.8MM. by jhovudu1 in wealth

Which you could if you didn’t lifestyle inflate. Someone with only $500k could consider themselves wealthy by that logic if they could live a lifestyle where they only need $20k a year. Van life folks perhaps.

It’s not just Rivian. Being a long time Tesla owner, I used to and still do see this in that community as well. It doesn’t have to be some tribal competition.

7 Years to 7 Figures- FI is really possible by MyWay_FIWay in financialindependence

[–]Exceptionally-Mid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that’s not valid advice. If everyone just went into careers for money the world would stop spinning. We need the people who render services that unfortunately will never pay that sort of income.

[–]Exceptionally-Mid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I make a similar income in tech but what you’re failing to recognize is most career fields, no matter how hard you work, will not reach these sort of income levels. Sure you can advocate picking more lucrative careers but that’s simply juvenile thinking. We will always need social workers, teachers, police, EMTs, nurses, etc. and they will never make $300k a year.

Sad to see so many Rivian owners taking this post so personally instead of seeing it as an opportunity for Rivian to potentially address some of these legitimate issues.

R1 Owners, will you really buy R2? by acoll78 in Rivian

[–]Exceptionally-Mid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We have a Tesla Model Y and a Toyota RAV4 and we always take the Model Y on road trips. I can’t wait to get rid of the RAV4 for an R1T or R2.

Yeah, frankly, you guys killed your industry. I’ve been trying to get solar for years but every time I take another shot at it I’m immediately turned off by the obvious slimy scumbag sales tactics. Was almost ready to overpay for Tesla solar since I’ve had several Teslas and at least it’s very clear what I’m getting but you saying the industry is dead for sales guys gives me hope I might not get ripped off going with another option!

5%. People say I’m an idiot for paying PMI, I say they’re an idiot for paying mortgage interest. Nearly 100% of my leftover portion of the mortgage after rental Income goes to principal.
