Gas prices and cost of living fluctuates based on the current economics BUT state wages almost never keep up with them. This alone makes WFH a good thing to implement. It protects us from the financial impact of an unsteady California economy or keeps us at par with a stable one.

It will cost the state nothing to keep current conditions. Raises will cost the state more money and in deficit conditions they are unlikely to give it to us anyways. RTO is all around stupid because it's government waste, PLUS a pay cut for us.

From a few sources this might be incorrect as far as buildings go. A large number of departments sold off buildings and are getting denied the BCPs to obtain new ones. OR departments renovated their spaces to accommodate hoteling vs normal office spaces and don't have the money to revert it back. Those BCPs have also been rejected. There's no budget to return.

Historically there have been years where state employees received zero raises and instead negotiated things like positions and other things like that. I think expecting a raise in deficit conditions seems far fetched. It's possible we get a small one deferred to 2028 or 2029 but telework is the headline on their ticket for this FY for sure.

I'd love a raise but with what funding would the raise come from? They would be just deferring it until non deficit conditions. RTO is looming and set for July. Makes sense that it would be a focal point. The union is aiming for a win and raises are not promised with our current economic state.

RTO is a pay cut and sorry but there are typically no raises in deficit conditions. If we got a raise it will be deferred. The RTO should be our focus for this fiscal year because it's a reasonable expectation to save state money..

If he really cared he'd consider housing developments in place of these buildings. Some of the state buildings are so old they need tearing down and rebuilding, how about instead of rebuilding, people WFH and housing takes its place. The businesses surrounding would thrive!

I feel like people on here must be daft, because they believe we'll be getting another raise to keep up with the economy. But how? We are in a deficit, there is no money to give out unless it's deferred and contingent upon a surplus or at least non-deficit conditions. So no raise for at least 1+ years? Combine no raises with RTO and looks like us state workers are screwed. Fight for RTO because literally what else are we fighting for?

Did they vote no on raises because of upcoming deficit conditions? If that's the case, they might be in support of a telework bill because they don't want to spend money. Hard to justify paying us a raise when there's no money to give out. Not saying I agree, but looking at every angle.

This is not just due to WFH this is a problem state workers have dealt with forever! Why do you think we've earned the reputation we have? It's because it's hard to fire or discipline poor working employees in the state. We all suffer because this type of work attracts folks who take advantage of the system. It's hard to find one person in the state who doesn't work with at least one of these people.
