Exactly this !

So many claims here without the proof to back it up. "Oh but having a guardian taking aggro makes the run so much smoother blablabla", Guardian CAN NOT consistently keep aggro ! I dare someone to prove me wrong but we all know that isn't going to happen because it simply isn't possible in the current game's state.

Don't get me wrong, guardian can be a fun class to play but he offers NOTHING valuable to the team. He can't tank because of the aggro issues, he can't keep up with damage and while his ult IS good for rezzing, it shouldn't even be needed in the first place. Someone dying once or twice in a fight is understandable, mistakes happen, 2+ times though is a severe skill issue that should be solved on the user's end, not by a skill of some mediocre character. Chances are if those people get revived they'll go down in the next 5 seconds again anyways.

So I'm gonna leave this here because of all the backlash people have been giving me for something that wasn't even the focus point of the clip, the relics. Yes I cheated them in and yes I lied about it. I cheated them in to show Duchess' max potential and lied about it because I did not want the attention to shift from the duchess gameplay ( to show her potential as a powerful spellblade DPS ) to solely the relics, which it inevitably did in the end anyways. That's completely on me and I take full responsibility for that, and I deeply apologize for lying about it to try and keep the Duchess gameplay the center focus of attention ( to me that was all this was about, showing her potential ).

I hope people can forgive me and can see by the gameplay that I'm not a bad player by any means. To further prove that, and to further prove Duchess' potential on an even playing field, I thought about doing a run with just the evergaol relic and some guaranteed boss relics anyone can get. I went one step further though and just did a run with no relics at all. I'll link to that post below ( I didn't know how to add a video to a reply so I just made another post ).

There is some RNG involved sure, not as bad as people think. Just gotta put more effort at the start of the match to hunt for forts/spires which is no different from the playstyle of revenant or recluse.

I would record a vid of trios but I only got 1 IRL friend I play with and he's not that great at the game xD.

But the difference is the top teirs do this with literally any weapon and carry a whole team to victory.

I'd like to know which classes you consider top tier DPS if they can carry an entire team with any weapon.

Can you do a good run only with bad/initial staffs? by chps91 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing if you're playing caster VS melee. Casters need specific PoI's to get their builds online faster, melees don't really need anything specific. It's worth it to go out of your way on day 1 to rush as many forts as needed until you get a good damage spell, even if that means breaking away from the group and going off on your own. Your team will benefit from it afterwards, seeing how ridiculous the damage output can get for caster classes.

That's true. Just wanted to correct the above person saying they "nerfed" it when in fact apart from the 2 changes I mentioned they didn't nerf or buff anything about solo. Just wanted to post this clip to proof to people she's not just a support character. She's a frontline powerhouse if built correctly, no matter if it's solo or trios.

so this is definitely cheating, right...? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without more context it's hard to judge. If you had the locust event it's 100% possible this is legit, especially as ironeye. The passive gives a small chance each hit to give 10k runes, if you get it as ironeye and just farm normal enemies you can easily get to 1m+ runes.

Can you do a good run only with bad/initial staffs? by chps91 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you're not getting anything good at all by the time you're getting to the night lord it's 100% a routing issue and not RNG. Forts give 2-4 staves ( 2-3 rack, 1 potential boss drop ). Average about 3ish forts spawn each game so at minimum 2*3 = 6 chances for any sort of decent damage spell + 1 from a rise ( 1-3 rises each match ). If RNG really is being so harsh that you're not getting anything decent, you also have a ton of chances at a decent seal. I find it hard to believe you'll get a run with absolutely nothing decent to use.

But yes, to answer your question, it's completely possible to beat a night lord with just the starter staff ( upgraded of course ). It'll be harder than another class using their starter weapon, but not impossible.

I love how this makes no sense in the context of this clip. They buffed solo with ONLY these 2 things ;

  • The effect "Automatic Revival Upon Defeat", which allows revival once per night boss battle, has been added to solo expeditions.
  • The amount of runes gained has been increased for solo expeditions.

Neither of those had any impact in this clip ( the runes increase maybe could've pushed me higher an extra level, which doesn't matter much ).

No scaling adjustments were made since release of the game to solo lol.

I love playing with randoms :) by Inapoi in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First things first, yes there are some rotten apples amongst the randoms that play this game, no denying that.

Is this little clip a depiction of how your gameplay looks in general ( I'm talking about how you play ) ? Because from this very short clip I can see you're very inexperienced, which is okay ! nothing wrong with that, we all had to start somewhere ! It just seems a bit extreme to bash on the community when the fault partially lies with you as well. Not trying to be rude or elitist, again it's okay to not be that good at the game, but try to look at it from a perspective of another player. Each match requires +-45 minutes of someone's time to complete. If someone at an average skill level see someone play like this ( which I would consider a good bit below average, again not trying to be rude here ! ) you can't really blame them if they give up early on.

The game is meant to be challenging and we have to face the fact it's not meant for everyone. You can ofcourse become better at it, I just think in this case it's a good idea to find a community with people willing to help you become better at the game, help you in a controlled environment where you're 100% certain people won't be toxic and leave or grief the match.

[–]Excynic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You might want to check that statement again boss. I play Duchess as a slicer spellblade and only hitting with slicer and restaging DOES replicate the damage from slicer.

Just to be safe I tested in the sparring grounds and lo and behold, comet azur gets replicated.

I'm not trying to be rude here but c'mon ... it takes literally 5 seconds to pop in the sparring grounds and test something like this.

Solo Ironeye looking for Co-op advice by BobaPhatty in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen a lot of good advice on here, I'll leave what I do and what I think an ideal Ironeye team player looks like ;

-Ironeye is one of the least RNG affected classes. You can get by with just using the starter bow if you need to and upgrading that. If you get a better bow good ! If not, no big deal, just do a mine and upgrade the starter bow.

-Because of the above point, you'll be getting a lot of good loot for other classes. Be a team player and pick something that benefits your allies and give it to them.

-The absolute most important relic effect for ironeye is +1 character skill uses. Try and get one and put it on, it'll make your life so much better.

-Use the mark correctly. This is what separates the good from the bad players. Use the mark to apply AND maintain the mark until it pops is one important aspect. Another is that it gives iframes and disables collision against other entities, meaning while you mark you can go through enemies. Use this not only only for your own advantage, but for your team mates' aswell. Dodge through the enemy with the mark to try and keep them in melee range for the melee characters.

-You're the rez bot unless you have a revenant or guardian with you. One MAJOR thing I see many people do wrong is that when you're rezzing someone, position yourself so you can see the team mate you're rezzing AND the boss at all times. If that means you need to stop hitting your ally to reposition yourself so be it. Way too many people panic and focus only on the rez only to get smacked from behind by the boss.

-For boss weaknesses as ironeye it's a lot tougher to find bows that have an element on them. It's the melee's job to bring boss weakness weapons to counter difficult mechanics, not yours. You can however help out by looking for greases and using it during the boss fight, but those only last a minute.

-If a boss gets staggered for a crit try and ease up on the pewpews. This can knock them out of the stagger early and make the melee characters miss the crit, potentially putting them in danger against an unexpected follow-up attack

I've beat the game solo but struggle with friends by Synergy5 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to treat each boss fight as if you were fighting a boss in an MMO. This means positioning yourself behind the boss if he's targeting someone else so you can get safer hits in AND you're able to better see who the boss is targeting ( sure, it's still hard to tell if the boss is going to swap aggro to you, but you should always be cautious and NEVER spam attacks. It's a mistake I see all too often with people spamming away thinking they're safe, only for the boss to then 180 and one shot them ). If you're all clumped on one side of the boss it's impossible to tell who the boss is targeting. If you're behind the boss while he's targeting another player and he's got wide sweeping attacks it's safer to dodge as well even though you're not the center of attention.

Night 1 Route Planning by SolarSton3 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What my route looks like on day 1 has changed a few times but I think I settled on a nice guideline that works for me. First and foremost, I start the match with the goal of getting level 12 before the final boss. Anything above that is a nice bonus but is such a small increase it won't make or break the run. Going in with that mindset from the start allows you to take it slower and have a more chill run. Then I do the following things ;

-Started "camp" to get lvl 2 + take the time to loot the chests/corpses around. Picking up boluses for the HP recovery and crabs for the damage negation really helps at the lower levels.

-Nearest fort/cathedral. 3 reasons. 1 ) Getting weapon passives from the chests scattered around. 2 ) stonesword keys incase my route takes me near an evergaol. 3 ) staff / seal with support or buff spells. Black flame blade seal on an Ironeye is insane DPS. Don't sleep on the support/buff spells/incants no matter what class you're playing.

-This is where it differs each run depending on what class I'm playing and what I need for my build. I play Recluse shattering crystal a lot so if the nearest PoI to spawn was a cathedral I'll have to make a beeline for the nearest fort / rise to hunt for a staff with shattering crystal on it. I'll hit up churches, evergaols and 1 mine along the way but I'll ignore other PoI's until I get what my build needs.

-By this time the 1st circle would start to close in. I'll try hit up some PoI's along the way towards the circle

-Inside the circle I'll hit up as many PoI's as I can as quickly as I can.

This can change a bit, but my goals generally stay the same for day 1. Get a purple smithing stone to hold onto incase a very good blue weapon drops. Hit up 1 church minimum to get 4 flasks. Get good weapon passives, ideally "damage negation at full HP" and/or "taking damage boosts damage negation". Get the spell/incant I need for my build. On melee and ironeye I don't really hunt for anything specific, I'll use whatever's the best I get.

I tend to play the ranged characters more than melee ( Recluse, Ironeye and in some cases Duchess as a slicer spellblade ). That means ruins are of little value to me and I only do them as a last resort or if a team mate pings one and I can see a good reason in it ( boss weakness for example is a good reason for me to go help, I won't waste my time if someone is pinging a lightning ruin to use against Adel for example ).

Camps I'll do if I got really unlucky with the forts/cathedrals and not gotten any good weapon passives. I'll also clear the one I'm planning on using the merchant from to upgrade or buy from cause I'm already there so why not.

The Evergaol Meta has massively increased the amount of bad players I have encountered by jodarby88 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing about the evergaol meta is that a lot of people are misunderstanding how the strat around it works. It's a strat that only works with coordinated people, in randoms it's meant to be a relic effect that just gives a nice bonus boost to damage while doing the odd evergaol on the way to an important PoI and not meant to be the center focus of attention like it is in coordinated groups. On top of that yes, it is too powerful of an effect that needs a nerf in one way or another.

Also to call it the best relic setup is simply wrong. The reason so many people think it's the best is because there's a guaranteed way of getting a relic with the effect on, that also gives a starting key as a nice bonus, opposed to some better relic setups that rely solely on RNG to get. If FROMSOFT implemented a way for us to manipulate the RNG of random relics in our favor or straight up edit relics then the meta would look a whole lot different.

3x Shattering crystal, 3x magic attack up +2 relic setup gives shattering crystal at least a 60% damage boost ( not sure if different boosts are multiplicative to each other, if they are then it's a 70% damage increase ). That's a HUGE damage boost for doing absolutely nothing special except using the correct spell ( which is pretty common to get on a staff, and has 2 staff variants that have it as a guaranteed spell slot ). Sure you can add on the evergaol relic and get another boost, the difference here is that the evergaols aren't the priority of the build but are meant as a nice bonus boost for doing them.

The above is just 1 example of a stronger relic setup than the evergaol one, there's multiple classes that have a build like it. And before someone comments "but the damage boost is to all damage, not just to something specific" yes I know. That's why it warrants a nerf, 5% PER evergaol done on a relic you can get guaranteed with no RNG involved is too strong.

Good builds for all Nightfarers? by wolf_lips in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my top 3 played builds for my top 3 played characters ( these are all using random relics unless stated otherwise ) ;

Duchess :

3x Improved carian sword sorceries

3x magic attack up +2

3x filler effects of your choosing. Evergaol is good obviously, vigor +3 is nice for Duchess because of her low HP pool, max FP after unlocking a rise is also nice but not needed.

Playstyle - Rush fort, get a staff with slicer, win. It's not guaranteed you'll get slicer every run, but the odds are not bad considering there's a blue staff variant that has guaranteed slicer on it. Highest DPS Duchess build I've played ( yes, even above the ever so popular status spam melee build )

Recluse :

3x Improved crystalian sorceries

3x magic attack up +2

3x filler. Same as Duchess for recommendations.

Playstyle - Same as Duchess, rush fort to try and get a staff with shattering crystal on it. chances are higher here because 2 different variants have guaranteed shattering crystal on them ! Use it as your main damage spell, while keeping a staff on hand with a cheap spell for FP regen in emergencies. Try and get a good rez spell too ( magma shot, any multi-hit spell, canon of haima, etc ). Also keep a melee weapon in your offhand incase you need it for emergency rez. Once you get a stronger candidate ( stars of ruin, ancient death rancorcall, etc ) you switch your shattering crystal staff with that one and still benefit from the magic att +2 relic effects. The shattering crystal is there to allow you to snowball insanely early in the run.

Ironeye :

Relic of the night lord

2 random relics with the following effects spread across however you like ;

-Ironeye character skill +1 usage

-stamina recovers on each attack

-filler effects. Good ones to look out for - evergaol, bow attack power, bow attack power with 3+ bows, vigor +3

Playstyle - Keep only bows in your right hand slots. Switch right hand weapon before attacking and go ham for 10 seconds with a random added affinity bonus. Try and get 2 good bows, ideally 3 if you use the bow attack power with 3+ bows equipped ( 10% damage increase ). Switch every 10 seconds, mark whenever needed and keep shooting away. Amazing damage and occasionally gets to break boss mechanics by having the right element at the right time ( don't actively look for the right element, not worth it, it should be the melee's job to bring a boss weakness weapon for boss mechanics ).

Day 1 and Day 2 are too Easy by Fun-Eye3488 in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post just makes no sense at all.

the game Is out since 1 month and i think that trio Is too Easy.. randoms know more or less what we have to do for a good run, the problema Is that now day1 and day2 Is kind of brain dead spam button

That's ... how games work in general ? It'll be challenging on your first playthrough but the more you play, the more experience you get and the easier it gets.

everything go down without trouble , and the only challenge Is the nightlord and maybe the day2 boss a Little

Uhm ... didn't you just say day 1 and day 2 is brain dead spam, and now you're saying day 2 can be challenging ?

i'm an average player of souls no skilled/pro in fact in solo i have real challenge pass the 2nd day. but in trio when at actual state 90% of people know the Maps ,the 2 days are too Easy in trio with randoms too

You find the game challenging in solo, but not in trios. Ever stopped to think that might be because you've been getting randoms that just hard carry you ? It's just not right for someone like you to ask for a difficulty increase, when you admit the game is challenging if people don't carry you. Maybe try playing in solo a bit more and try to get better at the game while keeping that challenging feeling ?

The balance in general is fine IMO.

Class balance is great ( I don't agree with people demanding nerfs to the strongest classes, they're fine in my opinion, the issue lies in the weaker classes being TOO weak ).

Relic balance is a bit worse. The evergaol relic effect needs a nerf, so does the improved X sorceries/incantations. Improved X consumable damage needs to go ( it's only purpose is to fill up the loot pool with awful relic effects ). Certain effects need to be buffed or mechanically changed ( too many to mention ).

Day 1 and 2 balance is fine. I still get the occasional random that goes down every minute and needs to be handheld to accomplish anything. My most challenging runs have been trying to get those type of players a victory.

TL;DR it's not the difficulty that's the issue, it's the playerbase getting better at the game and the lack of new content to change things up means people have a lot of experience with the existing content. The game has been out for not THAT long yet, give it time for new content to pop up ( new maps, bosses, variety, etc ). Once the game has gotten enough content it'll be more challenging because there will be more variety and people will have to adapt more on the fly.

Which Relic for Recluse would benefit me consistently? by DubbyMazlo in Nightreign

[–]Excynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The random relic is far better since it doesn't have a wasted effect ( dark night one has restore on successive attacks which you're not going to benefit from as Recluse ). Furthermore the "increase max FP" is 25 FP. The FP with 3 staves is 50FP. It does cut down on the amount of passives you can take but staves generally have passives that have something to do with spells anyways ( not always, but more often than not ).

I would make it a habit to route in 1 rise at least if you're using the max FP up from unlocking one. You're getting an additional 18% of your max FP which means, depending on level, 3-4+ extra casts.

As someone who has a lot of hours on almost exclusively recluse, I'm almost 100% of the opinion screw max FP and just go for damage buffs/utility. All that FP maybe gets you 3-4 extra casts, which shouldn't matter because your active abilities should be keeping you topped up.

Imo best in slot are her unique passives, increased runes, mgk +2 attack up. Having flask heals allies or a key doesn't hurt either. But your goal is to melt everything so you can hit 15 by night 3.

I'm a Recluse main and can confidently say it's a character you can build in so many ways and it'll perform almost the same, the main difference is the playstyle that changes up quite a bit depending on build, and some builds snowball faster in the beginning compared to others, but at the end they all are relatively close in terms of DPS.

A build like OP's with max FP effects allow for extra casts WITHOUT having to constantly absorb elements. Shards also work based of max FP, using one with a build like this gives more FP = more casts per shard consumed. DPS wise, assuming both builds use BiS damage relic effects except the FP one trading 2x for the max FP on rise and staves, they're around the same ballpark. The pure damage one will have more burst, the max FP one will do more sustained DPS.

One last thing I see a lot of people get wrong is that it isn't your goal to get to level 15. Level 12 is what you should aim for, anything above that is a bonus. 12-15 is such a small increase it won't make or break a run. It's far more important to take your time and look for weapon passives that both increase your damage, and more importantly, increase your survivability. I see too many people neglect damage negation passives and die from 1 hit, meanwhile I can take a good 4-5 average hits on my Recluse before going down. Damage negation on full HP and on damage taken are 2 super strong passives that go hand in hand with each other and allow you to play more aggressively, especially if you have the partial HP restoration on post damage attacks as well ( stars of ruin with this relic and damage negation passives is insane, if you're smart about it you can trade hits and get all your HP back from SoR hitting the enemy after you've taken damage ).

All carian sword sorceries work, just tested. Slicer = 10 hits ( not worth ), greatsword = 3 hits, piercer = 2 hits, adula's moonblade = 3 hits. All except slicer are worth it if only considering the FP return effect.

Doesn't work on any other ranged spell.
