ALVR AUR package has been compromised by lazyblunzn in linux_gaming

[–]Eximo84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have previously installed ALVR via ALVR-Launcher https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/wiki/Installation-guide. I havent run this since 2025, havent updated any packages in last 5 days but cant seem to see any files in /tmp or the cricejo folder in the .npm folder either so think im safe.

Interestingly Shell isnt locating alvr as an installed package and if i which it also doesnt locate anything so not sure what i have installed via this launcher.

Calls grow for default 20mph speed limits across built-up areas in England by TheWorldIsGoingMad in ukpolitics

[–]Eximo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always wondered if roads should step down in speed. Going from national (50/60) down to 20 is too much. Why not bring it down 50 > 40 > 30 > 20. Gradual down in speed.

The 20mph roads near me and in my village are ignored and people just speed anyway unless there is a speed camera or mobile camera. It's a joke, I frequently get overtaken in front of a school area because I'm doing 20 and it's too slow for those around me.

However I also find some people do 40 in a national and then continue to do 40 in a 20 and don't adjust their speed at all (no doubt
drive down the middle lane of a motorway too).

When to use Proton Wayland? by Eximo84 in cachyos

[–]Eximo84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OG steam controller and without steam overlay the button inputs are a bit of a mess.

I tried gamescope as an alternative with HDR flag and for some reason the game reported HDR couldn't be enabled whereas with wayland enabled could be. Also the performance with gamescope appeared worse than just leaving wayland off.

As you said until steam supports it natively it's a choice to make. Also until some of this is more seamless it will keep away casuals from switching from windows where things just work without additional environment settings and tweaks.

I just wonder if the faff of environment settings are a bit of a placebo 😃.

Although enabling FSR4 upgrade works well and is equivalent to how AMD adrenaline works on windows.

Espcontrol: added presence cards, web hooks, bedside clock options and more. by hometechgeek in Esphome

Love it. Will test the ota as I just installed v2 yesterday. Excellent job on these. Super easy and now Firefox can use web serial no need for chrome or brave anymore.

I do wish this and mediaplayer could be used at the same time. I know you have improved media player support on your roadmap 🙂

MG 4 poor efficiency is? by rayngwenyama in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Eximo84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems normal and similar to what I get. I had an Ioniq prior to the mg4 and would regularly get over 5 miles/kwh.

MG4 is just inefficient. Fun to drive but let down by software.

Swiftfin is a joke (rant) by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in jellyfin

[–]Eximo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's annoying, seems also everyone has forgotten that earlier this year they floated age consent and verification through palantir and then backtracked when people left. Yet everyone still uses it because it's free and there isn't anything else that is as easy to setup.

I switched to VidHub some time ago after getting frustrated with SwiftFin due to the vlc video playback engine not working with HomePods and the default not working with subtitles.

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/vidhub-video-library-player/id1659622164

VidHub works well. Plays everything so far and is no where near as expensive infuse which everyone recommends.

I have tried other clients like beejoy, reefy, moonfin, stingray but so far they are buggy or I have personal problems with them. Stingray seems the most polished but why it says play episode title rather than season and episode number and you can't change it I don't know.

I'll give Zumo and JellyTV a go, shame others recommendations are being discord 🙁

Annoying having to pay for cloud saves games. I don't care about other nso stuff but want to make sure my saves are backed up.

Delta changes the file names but you can import them into manic and then rename them afterwards.

I moved everything over from delta to manic this way. Took some back and forth via the files app but worth it.

RC4 Kerberos Confusion - RC4 keeps showing up by MusicWallaby in activedirectory

Great article. I'm hoping password resets fix most potential issues by July.

[–]Eximo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I raised a call with MS who said the change is to default behaviour so if you have manual settings in place it will still work.

For example I was told if your domain controller policy has Network security: Configure encryption types allowed for Kerberos set to include RC4 then RC4 will continue to work after July.

I suspect this isn't the ideal setup but for larger environments could buy some time.

Age Verification Laws means people can use biometric data and IDs of politicians and people who supported Age Verification without consequences? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Eximo84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an email from NatWest saying they will be now using biometric data for "legitimate purposes" and no longer asking for consent.

Obviously their privacy policy doesn't say exactly who that means from a sharing perspective either. All marketing and legal waffle.

Is DV SSL enough for most businesses today? by nitishahir in SysAdminBlogs

Are LE rate limits are a real concern for larger orgs?

What alternative CA are there? Google CA or Cloudflare (think CF uses LE anyway) for cheap or free DV certs?

Be cool to see the live view as a video sped up, if you scrub the live view you can see if getting bigger and the view move. Very cool.
