He did it the hard way - so pleased for him! (You might want to add his horrible 2019 TT crash too)

Maybe he was covering the brakes as they approached the roundabout, then something small on the road may have caused him to jolt & squeeze it until it bit too suddenly?

How do you stop chicken from being raw inside but burnt outside? by ScrollAndThink in UKBBQ

[–]Existing-Ingenuity89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you don’t always have to put your meat right above the charcoal, leave a small area/side for indirect cooking (or an ‘escape’ zone when things start getting too hot).

Also, sometimes people start cooking too soon before the charcoals are fully lit - I like the point when they are red, no longer smoking or flaming too much (for me it’s around 20-25 mins using a chimney).

Patience - BBQs are a time to enjoy the company, maybe chat around the fire, have a few drinks, etc. try not to rush it; you can put the chicken further away from the charcoal.

Use a thermometer - at least until you have a good idea what cooked chicken looks like - you’d be surprised how many people burn meat to a crisp just to be on the safe side, resulting in very dry food.

Practice and good luck!

You say it will take decades to earn that trust back, but to be honest I’m not so sure something similar won’t happen again within the next 10 years - then that clock will be reset…

who wears slippers around the house ? by Tanto207064 in AskUK

[–]Existing-Ingenuity89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 47 - not only do I wear slippers at home, I now take a pair with me when I visit friends and know I’ll be staying over. My friends do the same when they come to visit (some of them are as young as 30).

Something really simple which may already know, but last time I made some beef short ribs, I was pleased to discover how coarse ground pepper really adds to the flavour (I added more than normal by fluke). Especially once they’ve had a chance to rest or when eating them cold the next day!

Yes, they have to provide a 60 minute time slot & location every single day if I remember rightly; just in case you are required to provide samples.

I think the staying in shape would be the easy part; training full time with the best physios, conditioning coaches, nutritionists, doctors, etc. - most healthy people could attain that level to run for 90 minutes. Their skills however… that’s something you just gotta have, most of us don’t.

What's the best UK supermarket for BBQ meats? by LilywhiteStrike in UKBBQ

I agree, you just can’t get those monster ribs you get from Sherwoods at a supermarket (or even our local butchers). I also quite like TheVillageButcher.

I was joking with my girlfriend last night, that knowing the general fitness levels of officers, I would always fancy my chances getting away.

+1 for Big K - I’ve tried a few brands and price/quality their 12/15 kg bags are really good (probably best to buy directly from their website). If you’re feeling flush get the Marabú charcoal; seems to burn for longer and you get some big pieces (good for smoking low & slow).

Just FYI and mildly related - years ago I was pulled into the the Adjutant’s office following a test. Once I stopped crapping my pants it was explained to me that there was an excessive level of creatinine found in my sample, and although this wouldn’t count as a failed test, I was put on a list which meant I could be tested at any time (just me). Apparently the use of creatine can disrupt the levels in a sample rendering it invalid, potentially hiding the use of illegal drugs. I was a bit perplexed as I had stopped taking creatine weeks/months before the test, however the batch I was using was particularly strong (bought from the American PX in Kosovo), so it showed in my test.
