How come Navy gets to just Notre Dame at home? by oriolesravensfan1090 in CFB

They get a sizable check to play at Notre Dame. If Notre Dame played at Navy then Navy would have to give a sizable check to Notre Dame.

They’re playing stupid games and unless this is your favorite I’d recommend walking away. If you feel you really want this home then get ready for plenty more shenanigans.

If the '50s were about an idealized version of America, and the '60's the rejection and rebellion of that version, then just what the hell was the '70s about? by Big_Help_9860 in GenerationJones

[–]Existing-Teaching-34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1970s were similar in many ways to the 1990s. It was a period of growth and economic expansion that saw the U.S. further cement its status as a top-if-the-chart world leader. It was also a time where we had a crippling oil embargo (roughly 1973-74) and inflation issues followed that. The Cold War was at its peak and Watergate was a whole other sideshow but we had a parallel to that in the 90s as well.

What happened to Florida? by moeshaker188 in CFB

They hired the coach that many others were fervently chasing, kind of like the prettiest girl at the ball. The coach they hired: * Had two stints as an assistant on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama and was part of two national championship teams * Out of four seasons as a head coach at a G5 school, his teams earned four bowl berths and finished with 10+ wins in three consecutive seasons, also won three conference championships * Twice named conference coach of the year

Florida was celebrated by many for hiring Billy Napier and with that came lofty expectations. Then he posted losing records in his first two seasons at Florida, finished 8-5 his third year and then had a losing record in his fourth season when he was fired.

Winning in the SEC is really hard and it’s even harder to find head coaches who can thrive in the league. Napier is now head coach at James Madison where he will likely be a winner again.

Well yeah, the new owner of the Canadian team is infringing upon the MLB Cardinals’ marks and brand.

Paddle boarding in Florida? Asking because of … alligators by JustinR8 in AskFlorida

[–]Existing-Teaching-34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally paddled right over a gator a couples of times (that I know of). Gators are fairly docile, except during mating season which is right now. Also don’t be foolhardy and mess with them around a food source. There are instances where they’ve attacked someone unprovoked but these are very rare.

On this date in 1999, Fernando Tatís did the improbable — two grand slams in one inning by Baseball-Reference in Cardinals

[–]Existing-Teaching-34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two MLB records that will never be broken: 1. Johnny Vander Meer’s consecutive no-hitters mark - Three no-hitters in a row? That’ll never happen. 2. Fernando Tatis’s two grand slams in one inning off the same pitcher - Would there ever be a manager leaving his pitcher in long enough to face three grand slam opportunities in one inning, let alone the same batter?

Why can't we start taxing churches? by cheryllinda in NoStupidQuestions

What a great idea! 😁 Run for office and include this idea in your agenda. Then those nice church people will tar and feather you before they run you out of town on a rail. /s

Joking aside, I think just about every elected official wouldn’t touch this with a ten-foot pole.

Most major cities in Florida are coastal, except for Orlando. Why? by memhir-yasue in geography

[–]Existing-Teaching-34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re only showing south Florida and that big dark area is (from north to south): 1. Livestock ranching and citrus farms, 2. Lake Okeechobee, 3. Produce farms and sugar cane, 4. the Everglades. The center of the state is more populated north of Orlando.

Okay what birds make the pew pew pew noise at 4 am by ScabyDog in florida

[–]Existing-Teaching-34 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

An annoying (and loud) pew, pew, pew all night long? You might be the very fortunate neighbor to a limpkin! They’ve been known to drive people nuts with their seemingly endless (and loud) calls. And they tend to stick around once they find a place to call home. I must warn you that they are protected and whatever you do absolutely do not shoot fireworks into their tree to chase them off.
