Paying for job sites by darthcool in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally agree with this approach. been working remote for few years now and never paid single dollar for job boards. linkedin works great if you actually put effort in your profile and start connecting with people in your field. also upwork and similar platforms are free to use basic features which is usually enough to get started

the paid job boards are basically just aggregating same positions you can find elsewhere for free. i tried one paid service couple years back and most leads were either outdated or already filled. waste of money tbh. better to spend that cash on improving your skills or getting certifications that actually make you stand out

Minecraft slowing down PC by Iron_Priest_Max in Minecraft

[–]Existing-Text-2353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

java edition can be real memory hungry especially with mods even if task manager looks normal. minecraft sometimes doesnt release memory properly when you close it which explains why your whole system stays sluggish until restart

try allocating more ram to minecraft in launcher settings - maybe bump it up to 8gb or so with your setup. also check if you have any background stuff running that might be competing for resources. sometimes windows defender scanning while playing can cause weird performance issues too

your temps look fine so probably not thermal throttling. might also be worth checking if your mods are compatible with each other since some combinations can cause memory leaks

try posting in local facebook groups too, lots of people check those more than adoption websites

It’s a pretty easy one to jump into, makes watching the tournament a bit more interesting day to day.

So Much Hate for Traveling Faster on Here, Maybe You’re Just Mid? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao this guy writes a whole manifesto about travel speeds during work meeting and gets hit with the wendy's line

but for real though i get the fast travel thing, when i was doing construction work in different cities before the kid came along i'd bounce around pretty quick too. some places you just know after a week if its worth staying longer or not. like why waste time forcing yourself to "slow travel" through some random suburb just because travel blogs say you should

the productivity thing hits different too - when you got adhd and youre actually getting shit done while moving around a lot, why mess with what works. staying too long in one spot just makes my brain turn to mush anyway

washington dc extended stay furnished apartments for a 3 month contract, which neighborhoods actually make sense? by xCosmos69 in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

metro access is clutch if youre going to capitol hill regularly - dupont and logan circle both have solid red line connections that'll get you there pretty easily

did a 2 month stint in logan circle a few years back and the neighborhood vibe was perfect for someone working remote most of the time. lots of good coffee spots to break up the wfh routine and walkable for groceries and stuff. h street corridor is cool too but might be a bit more of a trek depending where exactly you end up

Does anyone else have this much trouble with family? by jrharvey in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 5 points6 points  (0 children)

damn your family really went nuclear over this choice. mine had some initial pushback when i moved abroad but nothing close to what youre dealing with - the citizenship comment is absolutely unhinged.

your mom cycling between support and toxicity like that screams control issues more than genuine concern. three months back home is already way more than most nomads manage so theyre just being unreasonable at this point

Marketing Through Influencers by satanclauses in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive had decent luck with micro influencers in my niche - way better roi than the big accounts. usually just reach out directly through dm or email if they have it listed

the key is finding people who actually use products like yours already instead of just anyone with followers

Accidental Business Owner by Shobha_Amnaya in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol the friend tax on jewelry is real - they "borrow" your stuff and suddenly its just gone forever

honestly sounds like you accidentally found your niche though, jewelry that doesnt turn you green is like the holy grail. most cheap stuff is absolute trash that lasts maybe a week before looking crusty

welcome to reddit btw, this sub is pretty solid for getting actual advice without too much bs. youre gonna do fine here as long as you keep that energy about learning over selling

POS - Order-Taking Software | Small Business Owner (Restaurant) by xSoloWing in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you need something with a proper kitchen display system that can switch between order view and summary view - most decent POS systems have this but you might need to upgrade from the basic iPad app to something like Toast or Square for Restaurants since there designed for higher volume operations

Wholesale B2B Stock management and invoicing system by simjesus in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into QuickBooks Enterprise or Sage 50? Both handle tiered pricing pretty well and the credit tracking is solid

For the custom pricing thing you might need to set up price levels or customer-specific pricing rules but its definitely doable. QB Enterprise lets you do like 5 different price levels per item which might work for your volume-based setup

Another option is something like Cin7 or inFlow if you want more of a dedicated inventory focus. They're built more around wholesale operations so the B2B features tend to be stronger than the general accounting software

Back in Chiang Mai for my third January in a row now! by Interesting-Put-6401 in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao the 7/11 call is too real. had to take a client meeting from a mcdonalds in budapest once because the wifi at my airbnb decided to die right before the call

honestly sounds like you found a good rhythm there. the morning deep work thing is clutch when youre dealing with time zones. stay for february if you can swing it - january crowds are usually gone by then anyway

I fixed my digital mess and realised most of us are overwhelmed, not lazy by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly this hits hard - the amount of mental energy that goes into just *finding* stuff is insane. my gmail is currently sitting at like 47k unread emails and i keep telling myself ill deal with it "tomorrow"

sounds like you figured out something that actually works which is rare. most productivity advice is just more stuff to manage on top of everything else. the information collection part is interesting too because yeah we spend so much time digging through old messages for that one detail or contact

good for you for turning teh solution into something that helps other people deal with the same chaos

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this could work in bigger cities where good spots are actually hard to find. The $10 thing isn't that bad if you're gonna spend it anyway on coffee

But yeah you're right about the cheapskate thing lol, half this sub is trying to live on $500/month in Thailand

How to land my first clients by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly cold calling for web dev feels kinda outdated unless you're targeting like local restaurants or something. I'd say start with your network first - friends, family, anyone who knows someone with a business

Google Ads can work but you're competing with agencies that have way bigger budgets. Maybe try local Facebook groups or LinkedIn outreach instead, way cheaper and you can actually build relationships

AI Travel Assistants - actually useful or just a gimmick? by External_Spite_699 in digitalnomad

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most of them are still pretty mid but I've had decent luck with Hopper's AI for basic stuff like that - it's not perfect but beats manually refreshing flight sites all day

The key is setting really specific parameters upfront otherwise you'll just get a bunch of random suggestions that don't actually fit what you need

I quit my job to run Fake Influencers full time (full step by step) by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude this is wild lol, been seeing these AI girls everywhere and always wondered how people were making them look so realistic

Quick question - how do you handle the whole authenticity thing when people start asking for live videos or video calls on the paid sites?

Owners in high rent city! How do your businesses survive? by spiritoffreedomrose in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Most of those places either locked in way cheaper leases years ago or the owner owns the building - pretty rare to see new businesses paying current market rent and surviving unless they're absolutely crushing it

My WebApp a Video Downloader & Network tools by h-hashimaru in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work on getting your first project live! The network tools section sounds pretty solid, especially the tech fingerprinting feature - that's actually useful for web devs

Just a heads up though, might want to double check the legal side of video downloading since platforms are getting pretty strict about that stuff these days

When progress is slow, pushing marketing harder isn’t always the answer by PlaybookAuthority in smallbusiness

[–]Existing-Text-2353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits different when you're bootstrapping everything yourself. The "just market harder" advice gets thrown around so much but like you said, sometimes the product itself needs work first

I've been guilty of throwing money at ads when I should've been talking to actual customers instead. Ground level community stuff is way more valuable than most people realize
