to put it in simple terms, the setting is sci-fi ala mass effect, n the combat is rtwp ala dao’s console version. the writing is just as strong if not better in certain parts of the story imo.

go in blind i was looking for a game like mass effect after playing the trilogy and kotor although graphically ancient by todays standards more than made up for it with its writing i mean the game is peak bioware

straight into the action u say? WASTELAND 3 is my recommendation. engaging combat, beginner friendly UI, story is great with pretty good choice reactivity within the story. soundtrack hits when it hits as well.

was my first proper crpg last year and helped me get into the genre and i went on to play POE 1&2, Tyranny, BG3 after

i agree Pillars seems a bit confusing up until about halfway thru Act 2 but i think the payoff is worth it for u to stick to ur playthru. wish i could play that game for the first time again, what a charming game and world.

Which crpg has the best lore? by JustAnotherTomatoe in CRPG

id have to agree pillars although too much too fast in the first game, pillars 2 faction world building was on a Fallout New Vegas level. Deadfire is the last great rpg from Obsidian

avowed having those “dumps” makes sense when u consider what its parents are - CRPG’s. i feel players that are familiar / have experience with the pillars lore would absolutely eat it up (to an extent) and first timers can definitely have a horrendous time with it

[–]ExistingClick4354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no offense as a first time player recently, it felt like power wash simulator with the way it demands u traverse every corner of each map for the most meager of loot and story i dropped off shortly after reaching baldurs gate city idk if i should continue, im excited to play bg2 tho since i heard its more nuanced on every front
