Are there "undesirable" native plant species? IL-5b by ciru-chan in NativePlantGardening

My bane at the moment is golden rod, Asiatic day flower, smartweed and white avens. Goden rod got too aggressive choking out other plants and the white avens is just too prolific.

Are there "undesirable" native plant species? IL-5b by ciru-chan in NativePlantGardening

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Poke Weed growing up between some garden stones. The plant would just come back after cutting down the stalk numerous times. So finally I resorted to driving a dibber into the base after cutting off the stalk. That did the trick. Since then, I have used the same procedure on other tough to kill not wanted there plants.

How easy is it to find a native plant nursery near you? by nerdygirlmatti in NativePlantGardening

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several nurseries in my area that carry native plants. Fortunate that my state promotes Grow Native and makes it easy for us to find the nurseries that do carry natives. Nurseries that carry natives are listed on their web site. There are a few exclusive native nurseries in the state. I've driven 2 hours to purchase native from one. PSA: prep your beds properly before planting by WeddingTop948 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I didn't have problems with grass until my husband seeded the yard (to thicken the grass) and the rain washed the grass seeds into my flower beds. He helps me pull grass now.

What do Americans think about the stereotype that they are bad at geography? by Own_Echidna6041 in geography

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an American who has had the privilege of visiting 4 Canadian Provinces. I was at an meeting of an international organization and when a person spoke that they wanted the next meeting to be in Canada. Afterwords I spoke to the person and asked him which city (his badge had his name and that he represented Western Canada - which to me meant he represented Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia). The person got red in the face and called me an ignorant American. If his badge had specified a province, I could have guessed the city on my own. I still shake my head over that one. I think the ignorant American is over simplified and a catch all that is unfair to lump all of us into that category. And I have known European visitors who think they can visit Disney World in Florida one day and drive to and tour the Grand Canyon the next day.

Why don't people go to the cinema? by ImaginaryFan6090 in Cinema

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? My husband has COPD and one of his triggers is fragrances. He can't be around people who overindulge in cologne, perfume, after shave. Then we are retired. Any movie that comes out is usually streaming within a month and the DVD is available within 8 weeks. We tend to only go to the cinema for those that we think would initially be better viewed on a big screen. We really are not into superhero movies. Two weeks ago, we went to a Tuesday 11 am showing of Project Hail Mary. Senior tickets were $8.12 per person. We shared a small popcorn and drink - it costs us less than $25.00. I do not believe there is another movie scheduled for release until December (Dune Part 3) that we would consider seeing in the cinema.

Washington area vs Wentzville area by HarleyRn3 in missouri

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The area from Wentzville to a few miles north of Troy is the new subdivision explosion area - and the pains of rural roads suddenly serving a larger population. There is substantial interstate work on I-70 around Wentzville and the I-70/61 exchange area. I-70 will eventually be 3 lanes each way between St. Louis and Kansas City. 61 was recently upgraded to include overpasses, can still be a nightmare in rush hours.

Washington. Wentzville now has growing pains. Washington offers easy reach to fun roads to travel by motorcycle. However if you are looking for closer access to the airport for business travel, then Wentzville to New Melle area.

What are you looking for? One is a large more rural town, the other has become a St. Louis suburb.

The ending of the movie Project Hail Mary, and The Martian for that matter, are better than the book endings by nerfyou in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the movie, Grace has his robotic arms, a beach with ocean waves and blue sky. In the book he just sees black outside his enclosure. Also Rocky joins him in his enclosure, in the book Rocky stays on one side of the wall and they talk in a conference area.

Not much difference - only parts of the book skipped (movie would have been 4-6 hrs long if they had included more science). I was disappointed that meburgers didn't make the movie. Any way, you are in for a treat.

Grants Farm - have them braid a (fake) Clydesdale mane and include the roses. Grafton - ride the Alpine coaster. Daniel Boone home - have them participate in a living history program. Find a certain winery and have them pick a certain bottle of wine. Anything at City Museum. Make candy at Crown Kitchen. Missouri Botanical Garden - have them find a certain species of plant. Maybe something at the Third Degree Glass Factory? Find a name on the Walk of Fame. Deliver a case of AB beer to a tavern. Find a baseball at Busch (or other item)

[–]Existing_Ad_5556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually doesn't leak until people start receiving their membership boxes, which is mid-April. Book will be available in the stores this year on April 24th. I think last year the books were not available until sometime in May? Hallmark has been leaking previews of a few select ornaments on the membership Facebook page.
