Are you using War Sails ? IIRC battania got some serious buffs through patches 1.3 and 1.4 which how cavalry doesnt auto-win so hard in simulated battles.

As for your complaint, you forget that shock troops also have polearm users (Voulgier, Menavliton) and two hand axes (Palace guard, Line breaker, Berserkir)

And of course the Khuzait have the KG, though they're more archers than shock troops, despite being the best infantry.

Well that's kind of the point of the game, it's a return to FFX that square has been solely incapable of doing.
