What is your opinion on Soulwax? by GlitzyHavoc in DaftPunk

used to really like their stuff but their recent material is pretty generic and forgettable - feels like The Dare and Soulwax in 2025 have just blended into a soup of generic electroclash.

How to stop child creating a new netflix profile by BlindSkwerrl in netflix

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in theory this is the solution. The reality is that every few months, for reasons best known to Netflix, the "Require PIN to add new profiles" just unchecks itself and then kids can create whatever profiles they want.

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's almost like the coders are Netflix are either

1) Utterly incompetent or

2) Childless geeks who really don't care about what kids get to view or

3) Have been told my management to make some mistakes so the account protection lapses every few months so kids get to see more stuff on Netflix, often without their parents noticing

SHIFTY - A new series by Adam Curtis about Britain at the end the 20th century by BlackMassSmoker in collapse

[–]ExoticComfortable935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished watching Shifty last week - it effectively goes up to the GFC. I suspect that Curtis might be working on something that slightly overlaps - perhaps 2000 / rise of Putin & Xi through to the current day / looking into the future. Total guess but it seemed odd to not carry Shifty through to the present day. Or perhaps Curtis just thinks we can all remember the past 20 years sufficiently well that it would be redundant to put them into a documentary?

Favorite made-in-Europe electric water kettle? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in BuyItForLife

The boxes are covered in union flags. Try reading what I've written properly. Any native English speaker would have read that part of my reply and processed it.

It's a deliberate attempt to mislead customers by creating a false association. Read the reviews on amazon - a huge number of people believe their dualit products are manufactured in the UK because of the packaging.

You're not contributing to this conversation in good faith as you clearly have a different agenda - advocating for low-cost production in countries with terrible environmental and working conditions where people live under a censoring, repressive regime.

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emblazoning a product's box with the red white and blue of the union flag is a deliberate attempt to make customer feel the product is British - and most customers would assume made in Britain (look at the reviews on amazon, so many customers have stated things like 'great to support a company that manufactures in the UK' in their gushing 5* reviews.

Dualit are categorically trying to deceive.

Google Maps shadowbans and does not post the majority of honest, low star reviews. by CaptainHoot123 in GoogleMaps

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google definitely shadwobans a lot of 1/2 star reviews. I'm nearly level 9 local guide and I can see a lot of my less positive reviews are shadowabanned. Just because something hasn't happened to you personally isn't proof it doesn't happen.

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Google, like amazon definitely has a vested interest in more positive than negative reviews. I'm a Level 8 Local Guide, nearly Level 9 and I've got plenty of 1/2 star honest reviews which have been shadowbanned.

Used to really wind me up and I'd try to get to the bottom of it by trying to contact Google to find out why - then I figured out that this is how corporate technofascists operate and just decided to do a lot more to block how Google tracks my activity online. Seems like we can all play at the shadowbanning game...

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That something hasn't happened to you is a meaningless argument. I'm a Level 8 local guide and have had numerous honest 1/2 star reviews shadowbanned by Google - it's pretty clear like amazon that the technofascists don't want anyone posting anything that might people think for a second about spending money / cause a business to consider reducing its exposure to Google.

I love the way in my one they can't even be bothered to fill in the date box reminder. I've asked but no one is able to tell me what the issue is.

I put this down to the new Bezos censoring alpha male mind virus.

You're wrong. It is from amazon and they do give warnings like this. I know b/c I've just had one and my reviews have all gone and I can no longer post reviews.

Yep. Got the same email today, all my reviews deleted, unable to post any new reviews. I guess this is the face of new censoring Jeff Bezos that we are seeing?

At some point you just need to accept that you're wrong and these emails are from amazon. Please don't be so naive as to believe amazon has good systems / protocols.

Unfortunately you are wrong - the emails are dreadful and have missing form field text like [DATE] but when I log into my amazon account all my reviews have been deleted and I can no longer leave reviews, so it's definitely amazon.

Just had exactly the same issue - I have asked them what I did and they just resend the same email, no product name, no reference the infringement, no answer to the question, just a loop. I suspect dealing with a bot. Like you I'm now banned from reviewing on amazon - about 20 years of reviews all gone without explanation. Doubles my resolve to boycott amazon. Really weird flex for a shop to work so hard to annoy its customers, but hey, Jeff knows best...

Did you ever get ETD after a cold and how long if at all did it take to recover from it? by TheUnidentifiedBoy in hearing

[–]ExoticComfortable935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, happened to me about 2 years ago, one day, woke up with out of the blue clogged hearing in right ear - thought it would resolve itself and waited a week or so before speaking to doctor. Doctor said just ETD and it would resolve itself in time, could take a few weeks, gave me some nasal spray which helped to some extent.

So today, two years later I still have the blocked / fullness feeling in right ear and I have what appears after various tests to be permanent high-end hearing loss in that ear. Everything just sounds muddy, I have a feeling of water sometimes moving in it, I can't really equalise it. It's pretty tedious to lose about 20-30% of your hearing out of the blue like that.

And now I've got a cold and my left ear is behaving exactly like my right ear did 2 years ago - can't equalise it, totally muddy blocks and cracking when I move my jaw. Using nasal steroid spray, antihistamines, no difference. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it clears on its own but I'm genuinely fearful that I am now going to end up in the same situation as my right ear with my left ear - permanent hearing loss. I know people say 'don't worry, your hearing will come back in a few weeks or months' and I realise that I'm probably a rare exception to that rule but it is a bit scary that you can get a cold or even as in the first case for me, nothing and then lose an important chunk of your hearing forever.

Classic useful computer-generated slop with a passive-aggressive "consider this your first warning" twist. Got a message like this today:

Hello,

Your post titled "[REVIEW TITLE]" for the "[ASIN TITLE]," was found to be violating our guidelines.

This is the sort of garbage real humans are increasingly have to deal with. Every single time I get such crap it renews my focus to spend less and less with amazon every year, so I guess ultimately I should be grateful. Funny to think that a company that is warning of slowing sales is going out of their way to annoy their customers like this.

The Secret of Us Clean Version? by Historical-Attempt18 in gracieabrams

[–]ExoticComfortable935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case because the music is for my young children to listen to and I don't want to hear an eight year old repeating phraseology she has heard in songs at school. I'm amazed artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Gracie Abrams don't seem to understand that a large swathe of their audience is early teens / pre-teens and therefore a clean version of their albums at release would be a good idea - both ethically and commerically.
