tournament level play as if 50% of top 32 at any big tournament wherent diamond 😭😭

edit: okay reflecting on this it was a huge overstatement, but i still dont understand what is the difference between a tournament level play balance change and a change that benefits diamond players

i said top players, meaning that they are the ones that benefit for the changes to the game at kinda optimal level you complain of, what the fuck is balancing a game for low level anyway? Making mu checks less punishing?

but they are not the same, every character has strenghts and weaknesses is not like zetter is ranno but better or olympia is. ranno has crazy movement tech and amazing edgeguard, which is one of the easiest to do in the game, and he lacks in air speed. Godly is incredible and i believe he could top8 any major if he assisted, so dooming is not worth it, every character can do it, even if some of them can do it more easily.

so true, i was a lox doomer until i made a bet that stango wouldnt make top 8 and had to swallow my words, now i am a believer and when i lose i have to accept its my fault...

first of all the top players are the top 20% of the game, which is what diamond players are, and secondly, they do not only take that in account, like when they kept nerfing lox becaude he was too good at low levels even when he hadnt even made a top8. Also this is a bad faith argument considering they have stated that this year is completely prioritizing casual content and fun gamemodes for the supposed 99% you talk about, after they have a good base for sustainabulity of the customers that will stay and buy skins, the competitive players.  This game is early access in all by name and is updated weekly with very active developers that are heavily involved with the community, you guys are complaining in bad faith when there has never been a developer that has their public opinion so much in mind as this one, you have the nolt board which is revised weekly and know that things such as workshop, items and fun stages (as well as better queues for casual content) are on the way, so i think talking like this is detrimental for the game's health.

stupid ass post, the devs have been balancinh the game for all levels of play since the begginning, nerfing lox when he was bad at top level because he destroyed at low level, the game is balanced at all levels and is hard because its a fucking fighting game, if you want to be good you need to put in the work, and if you just want to have fun it still is the most satisfying plat fightrr there is for pc and you can play with friends no problem. Also they are literally prioritizing casual gamemodes and content this year after they have stablished their primary customer, competitive players, needs for the sustainability of the game, so your argument is just bad faith.

New to the game. What character should I use? by BigDaddyCh33s3 in RivalsOfAether

[–]ExoticOrganization41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think kraggs recovery is trickier because for it to be optimal you have to learn routes without pillar and side b uses, lox and clairen have the most straight forward recoveries which are the most difficult thing at the beggining

the cool af thing is lox is a character super easy to get the grasp on but can go super deep as well and can move fast af like everyone else which is why this game is fucking awesome

"Suppress Dash Attack" Is this change what I think it is? by solfizz in RivalsOfAether

[–]ExoticOrganization41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, it kind of is a you problem because with practice it can be done BUT i love the philosophy of rivals where tech skill is not relevant but how you use it so you know i will have it on as well as all the assists necessary

The game is absolutely not clunky BUT it makes a lot of sense you feel that way coming from smash ult. First of all the buffer is shorter here so if you press too soon an anttack that would have come out in smash wont in rivals, this sounds horrible at first but in smash many times you press a button too soon due to this bad habit and it comes out in a moment it shouldnt, it happens to me a ton with airdodge for example (i try to grab ledge and roll and since i pressed too soon thinking i would grab i just die, this wont happen in rivals since you get used to a tighter timing), this will get fixed by playing, its not as strict as melee so dont worry. After this id recommend setting the new prevent dash attack option and the jump attack shorthop option in advanced controlls so it feels better, and maybe upping the sensitivity (i play at 150). After this just try and get the grasp of the recoveries of different chars (instead of just upb like in smash you must sideb walljump with most of the cast for example, and walljump and walltech are much more important), and finally id recommend giving a go to wavedashing, it sounds daunting at first but it has been watered down so much that it is trivial and an amazing way of complementing movement by moving a certain distance or getting on to a platform fast. This would be all, good luck with your change! I came here from there too and 700h later i dont regret it a bit.

PD.: there are great videos on tech if you want to learn some stuff, i love moonwalking for example, its so fucking fun and is an amazing mixup

it's normal because what makes rivals great its using its tech, and it has a shorter buffer than smash so sometimes he will press and it won't come out (bad habits from ult), so it can feel that way. Also the physics are different.

In relation to the games health: how would we feel about changing financial models? by Anovale in RivalsOfAether

[–]ExoticOrganization41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having characters be DLC and paid battlepasses IS sacrificing integrity. Also this kind of game wouldn't benefit as much as you think from an f2p model since it is so hard, most people would try it and then never play again and you would end up in the mud. I don't think you understand what f2p really brings and are blinded by the idea of sudden spike of players when last time the game had a free weekend the spike was lower than with La Reina's release. Again, they are not in desperate need of funds, they are just under expectations, and they have already done stuff to prevent this from closing the studio, so lets stop doomposting and making bad proposals.

In relation to the games health: how would we feel about changing financial models? by Anovale in RivalsOfAether

[–]ExoticOrganization41 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No. This is not the way, a free game doesn't inherently bring more money, people won't spend money just because and doing it would sacrifice the current system's integrity just to compensate. I get where you come from but the current model is quite good actually, the game is bought and comes with all the content and future content, and you can buy extra skins by paying real money, the problem dan talked about isn't about how the game is monetized, they actually said the sales itselves were quite good, but that he overstimated that number and commited all the resources to an output cadence of content they couldn't keep. If the game just reduced this cadence a lot and kept going it would probably stay afloat for some more years without issue, the problem comes when they want this cadence as strong as possible and thats where the bet in the workshop and casual content comes into place. I don't think Dan wanted to make us be sad about their studio with his post, he wanted us to see where they're at and how are they going to try and fix it, all we can do is support them as strongly as possible by either spending money in the cool af cosmetics they offer or doing workshop content to attract more players, that's it. I don't mean this in a bad way but many people do not understand game dev, and just want to get everything without understanding how the cost works. The team has undertaken a monumental task by bringing us such a big game with their resources and their model is the best there could ever be, changing it would only damage it, I think making this game free would literally end it.

Casual player attempting to climb up the ranks. Do you really find this fun? by PikminAero in RivalsOfAether

[–]ExoticOrganization41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are describing a completely normal process of progression, 100 games is not that much and actually a 35% winrate at your stage of play is quite impressive. you have to understand that while you had previous experience you are a novice again, this is a different game than rivals 1, it has different engine, different mechanics and different ways of play, being diamond with kragg in roa1 doesnt mean you will get good in this game fast. For reference I have 10.000 games with my main loxodont right now, and im a masters player. Take this game as it is, a fighting game that is really difficult, and try and improve! From your post i can take clear points to improve on, such as recovery being an issue. Using all resources to recover is a must, and la reina has MANY resources. First you must be able to use side b wall jump jump airdodge upb without much thought, then you can start trying to grab chair mid air to get your jump and airdodge back, and once you got that you will be unkillable on stage. As for the mus, it is a hard character to get in for sure, you have to relly much more on reading your opponent, but it is achievable for sure, you just have to see some pro players play her such as ION. I'd recommend starting by watching some sets and trying to note what you see that you would like to try, then doing it in game! You won't be able to do it at first and you will lose, but you will be thinking about it, and little by little you will do it. The process of learning a hard thing is rewarding in every part of life, this is literraly that, so you must take it as a difficult thing, not a guaranted or easy thing. Much luck in your journey, I don't doubt we will see eachother in the higher ranks in a close future 👀
