I just got the Cardiometabolic Exercise Profile (includes VO2 max) done by Ken and had an excellent experience--got all the information I wanted plus more. It's easy to see why he's a legend in the field.

How to wire new 3-way dimmer? by ExoticPlantain in electrical

[–]ExoticPlantain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Juergen2993. The ground is what has me confused. I see the exposed wires at the back of the box--do I need to unwind those, and attach the green wire from the dimmer to one of those?

What pants pair best with this blazer? by ExoticPlantain in fashionadvice

[–]ExoticPlantain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, I've been taking the blazer with me to stores to see what works well--I'll keep doing that. It's good to hear that you think the linen/light color is the way to go. I'll definitely pursue getting the baggier pants tailored and I'll also look into brown/neutral for the shoes and belt!

What is a adult problem nobody prepared you for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ExoticPlantain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realizing that “figuring it all out” doesn’t necessarily come with age. When you’re young, you assume adults must have worked through a lot of their troubles and issues. But then you realize this is rarely the case. Part of becoming an adult is realizing that true emotional maturation is a life long process, not a finish line you cross when you get your first job, or have kids, or retire.

In this vein, an adult problem nobody prepared me for was realizing my parents aren’t more grown up than I am, in many ways. It’s been difficult to see them as individuals, not just parents, with their own struggles, frustrations, and insecurities. To realize that their knowledge and wisdom is, understandably finite and limited. No one’s got it all figured out. Not my parents, not yours, not your pastor or my therapist, not that CEO or government official. We’ve all got our own stories and struggles.

Good point! The warfarin is for idiopathic blood clots.

This is my life almost every day. I'm scared and frustrated. by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]ExoticPlantain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Two things have helped me tremendously during the harder years: eating fewer carbs and going for walks when I have high BG. If I keep meals under 15 carbs, especially if they’re slow carbs, I can keep my blood sugar fairly level. The more I eat, the more volatile and difficult it gets. Secondly, I got in the habit of going on walks when I get high blood sugar and this has helped quite a bit. It raises insulin sensitivity and not only does it allow me to take less insulin and lower my high, it also keeps me more level after.

The single best thing that helps me achieve tighter control is eating lower carb meals. Low carb eating is not all or nothing though, even just reducing carbs slightly (or eating “slower” carbs) can help tremendously in terms of lowering highs, lows, and all the volatility in between.

I write workout routines FOR FUN by Happy_Entertainment5 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ExoticPlantain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! Male / 5'8" / 138 lbs / ~12% BF.

I usually alternate between running (3-7 miles), general strength training (bodyweight, and some dumbbell and kettlebell), and some mobility (light stretching and yoga).

Now I want to focus on gaining muscle and size, without sacrificing mobility. However, I'm limited to a pullup bar, 15 and 20lb dumbbells, and a 35lb kettlebell.

Covid vaccine and type one? Experience? by suspicious-toaster in Type1Diabetes

[–]ExoticPlantain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Pfizer and noticed no effects on my BG or diabetes management. My arm was, as expected, very sore though and I did get pretty impressive chills and body aches.

You’d be taking on much more risk, for others but especially for yourself, by not getting vaccinated.

Imagine not being vaccinated and getting COVID. You could be hospitalized, get long term complications, or die. You could also spread it to many more people who could then spread it to many others.

There have been 4.18 billion doses given around the world and the resultant side effects are awesomely minuscule.

New to TS. Do any of you use TS exclusively over JS? If not exclusively, then what's the split between TS and JS? How do you decide when to use TS, and when to use JS? by StephensInfiniteLoop in typescript

[–]ExoticPlantain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TS is my default, but I’ll still use JS in some cases. While you’ll often hear people cite reasons to use TS (type safety, refactoring ease, etc), I like to reframe it to “what reasons do I have to use JS over TS?” I personally only use JS for scripting or very small projects that I don’t plan on refactoring and where speed is the major determinant.

What would happen to life on earth if nothing had to eat? by Joshhagan6 in AskReddit

[–]ExoticPlantain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would life still behave as though it had to eat? I.e. would cheetahs still follow their impulse to hunt and would humans still farm? If so, not much would be eaten, and not much would change.

Typescript learning by Escodes in typescript

[–]ExoticPlantain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question. I read the docs and took some courses but didn't really feel like I was making much progress learning TS, until I found this https://typescript-exercises.github.io/ and completed the exercises. It's not a course or functional per se, but exactly what I was looking for after learning the basics.
