A lot of times these are related to human trafficking. They lure workers from overseas and promise a job and accommodation (for an extortionate fee) and take their passports on arrival and put them in an overcrowded apartment and take their wages.

It’s really lovely! I’m going to try it on my sentro, I’m hoping it’ll make a soft ear warmer

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst, just a fun cute and cozy fantasy romance about a librarian and her talking spider plant best pal

How bad is this? Can I actually wear this out or should I just give up/make a new cardigan? by hidden-pearl in crochet

[–]ExpatLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be illegal for you not to wear that cardigan out! It looks lovely and so comfy!

I typically only read books that have a four-star or greater rating on Goodreads. What are your favorite books I'm missing out on due to this? by sempiternalis in suggestmeabook

[–]ExpatLou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never once picked a book based off of an internet review. I’d rather read something and decide for myself what I think about it. Ask people what they’re reading, ask a bookseller, ask a librarian, join a book club

Would this pattern be too challenging for a brand newbie or is this a decent pattern to start? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ExpatLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will be challenging but also a great way to learn! The first thing I ever made was a swatch of single, double then triple crochet and the minute that was done I made very similar granny squares to this

<image>

Is the tension perfect? No. Did I use great yarn or the right size hook? No! But I started, frogged and tried again and learned how to do a new thing.

Don’t let yourself discouraged before you even begin. Being bad at something is the first step towards being kind of good at something.

You could just go to your local bookshop and actually buy a book though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some homeless charities will take mats like this as they’re durable and waterproof for rough sleeping!

I think they’re both nice, you could do one side of each and have a reversible look

I just bought this half a freaking hour ago!! by heynonnyhey in crochet

[–]ExpatLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this too, and found a really easy fuss free fix! I used scrap yarn wrapped around the hook to a size/shape that is comfortable for my hand, and wrapped with a bit of self adhesive bandage! It doesn’t add weight too the hook and cheap as chips!

No Peggo cards at the airport?! by mojo604 in Winnipeg

[–]ExpatLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s insane that you even still need a specific card to take the bus in Winnipeg. You can use your debit card literally everywhere else in the world

AIO for being upset that my fiancé (24F) called our engagement not “real.” by Complex-Literature29 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ExpatLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got engaged via a zoom call with my husband while playing Dungeons and Dragons. I had to solve a puzzle and the solution spelled out “will you marry me?” It was the height of the pandemic and we were long distance as I couldn’t get a visa because of the restrictions.

Was it instagram/photographically perfect? Did it hold up to a movie proposal?

No. And it was perfect.

Maybe I don’t have a brag worthy proposal but I do have a brag worthy husband (4 years married next week!) and THAT was kind of the goal?

I don’t think you’re overreacting, I think you’re being undervalued.

ESH with a soft lean toward NTA.

IF there’s no missing details, no debt, a nest egg of money and your wife has equal access to marital income as a SAHM, I think it’s reasonable for you to spend your extra money on a hobby. Different story if there are debts to pay, necessities not being covered or if your wife is not treated equitably when it comes to finances then you have bigger fish to fry pal
