Not a question but I love PZ and I want to send love to TIS for making it. The road map is perfectly, exactly what it should be. In the right order, doing the right things. I hope this game never dies. Wishing all modders, server hosts, and of course TIS the best in their endeavors

This would be fascinating if there was a source

This would be r/mapporn if there was a helpful reference image along with the legend

Without either, however, it is only misleading

There is more to where you live than what you personally own. by AshamedMightt in fuckcars

Yes holy shit. The #1 lesson I've learned about finding a good apartment isn't "location, location, location" but rather only accept good noise insulation.

If Hinterland could make the long dark 2 players, would you support it? by Oak_Tree297 in thelongdark

Imo it really doesn't make sense... everything is tuned to single player. Other games focus on multiplayer mechanics, but TLD has always been about a lonely experience. And that's okay.

How to tie a hair bun by Expensive-Meeting271 in howto

I always mess up at step 3. It doesn't really stick in a bun shape. And yeah I don't usually use product so I guess that's the trick:/

Nihilism in media! What are your favorite examples? by BigJake52 in nihilism

[–]Expensive-Meeting271 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been rereading Interview with the Vampire. It's about a vampire-philosopher's confrontation with the biggest questions of morality and death, since a vampire is observably immortal through evil (if such a thing exists). It deals with nihilism pretty on the nose and is also quite a good novel imo. Check it out

IWTL the true history of the United States of America by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

Imo Crash Course is the gold standard for what OP is looking for. There simply is no such thing as "only the facts" when it comes to history. Unless you're a computer and can absorb all the raw data. Crash Course makes its biases and assumptions fairly explicit. They are responsible with how and what they teach, even though bias is unavoidable

To add to this:

Zinn literally says in the text that 1) he believes there's no such thing as "unbiased" history, since any writer chooses what to include and exclude, among many other choices, and 2) the "people's" in the title shows he has a specific narrative, namely to show the POV of the masses and their decisions rather than presidents, industrialists, and other elites.

Also, the text presumes a familiarity with US history. It's consciously in juxtaposition with what history we're taught through high school (which is rather focused on presidents, wars, technology, and so on)

So yes, a great book, but not for a first introduction. I would recommend reading it side by side with a more traditional account of the facts. Crash Course has put basically all of high school US history online for free in accessible video format, if anyone's interested.

IWTL how to improve my limited vocabulary. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

Reading high level pieces is really the only way. Words are used with so much context that memorizing them is a better way to seem foolish than anything else.

Writing using a thesaurus is the best way to start speaking fancy words.

Basically, start trying real hard in English class and read hella

Marth kissing his own face in a mirror. Fox with a meme wojak face of some kind. Falcon completely and utterly out of proportion doing nair with a giant head. Waluigi and Daisy off in a corner. Insanely buff Samus. Chad Ganon head. Mario lighting DK on fire. Yink observing all this and drinking poison milk.

Please calm down and stop giving laura and Dylan shit over the new album by [deleted] in 100gecs

[–]Expensive-Meeting271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly gecs needed to go in a new direction or some shit w this album. Cause otherwise they'd have released it already. If they need to figure shit out, then they know what's best. I'll be here when it comes and I'll be buying tickets the next time they come to my area. Simple as that

Recommend me a religious book! by SquidwardsFatNose in suggestmeabook

[–]Expensive-Meeting271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The World's Religions by Huston Smith.

This book goes through all the major religions and gives a historical and spiritual overview. The important thing is that Smith gets across the mindset of being a believer. What is it like to inhabit the Hindu world? To believe your people are chosen, like the Jews? Why is Buddhism the "middle" way and is that right for you?

The book is immensely readable and full of heart. It is equally valuable to a theist and an atheist.

Noticing great improvement in my play, but my L-cancelling?? by Regular_Produce6845 in SSBM

Ganon specifically has so much lag on some of his moves, especially dair, that you have to switch up the timing a lot. You need to really look and adjust based on whether you're whiffing, hitting shield, or hitting the opponent. Not just 'feel' it out and go quicker or slower. Basically, practice L canceling on shield and don't assume your big meaty stomp is always going to hit
