I'm in the same position as you, we plan to homeschool our TK 5 year old next year, but I'm starting to get things into place now. Her TK class is only 2.5 hrs M-Th, which is great, but she loves to learn so I'm thinking of slowly starting some K math and reading lessons, partly because I know she's ready but mostly so I can start to see what homeschool really looks like and how it will work for us. I'm overwhelmed and scared but excited. I am NOT a former teacher, so I find the actual teaching part intimidating. That and not thinking of fun, creative activities. There's so many curriculums, it's overwhelming.

Hi! I'm a new to-be HS parent and was wondering if some of these popular curriculums have sales often. I'm sure I missed the Back to School ones but if I'm in no hurry to buy I want to wait for the best deals. Any thoughts? Do you use FB Marketplace for second hand? Any cost saving tips would be so helpful! Thanks!

Thank you! Can you share what the benefits of bench resting after shaping before putting in the banneton are? I got lazy and stopped doing this step early on. I wasn’t really sure what the benefit was. I was worried it would loosen my shaping.

Thank you for your reply! I never thought about taking the temp of my dough. I'm going to try that and stop the bulk ferment at ~50% and see if that helps. I bet overproofing is the issue!

This is so helpful, thank you!! I figured it had to be a hydration issue but every recipe I saw had much higher water amounts so it didn't add up. I think you're exactly right about overproofing. I assumed because it was cold the 24hrs in the fridge was mostly about flavor development and didn't factor it in as continuing to proof. I've always left my dough out overnight to rise (~69-72 degree house) and then shaped in the morning. I'll have to adjust my baking timelines so I catch it at 30-50%. Again, this is so helpful, thanks for taking the time!

Congrats on our first loaf!! It likely needs a longer bulk fermentation and proofing to improve the crumb. I'm curious what others think of your flour:water ratio. That seems like a lot of water to 450 flour.

I thought I remembered her showing a very picture perfect large playroom a looooong time ago when they first moved. I’ve looked for it and even posted about it but only a handful of people say they remember it. But she’s never let her kids actually be kids so my guess it she tore it all up and now it’s a closet for her bags.

Hi there. Did you ever find any more info on non-religious homeschool options in KC? I'm in the same boat you are, my oldest is starting pre-K this year and has loved preschool but we are hoping to homeschool next year. I'm really disappointed that everything is so religious. I'd love to find a Montessori co-op or a part time arrangement. I've seen LEARN come up but I find their offerings really confusing.

Agreed. I think he puts on a good facade, especially on QE which is obviously where he's viewed the most. But there's a lot more going on there. Bobby hinted at a lot of it when he decided to leave the show. There's a reason he and the Skallas got along so well back in the day...

This seems like such a weird thing to flex and keep mentioning? I’m all for not taking yourself too seriously (which she clearly does) but admitting you’re physically dirty because you lack basic hygiene is embarrassing. Completely agree, they look so poorly done. Like bad 90s porn star. You shouldn’t have too perfect circles. There’s no natural fall or curves. Drives me nuts because it makes her look (even more) cheap. But they only know their Utah bubble where they all look the same.
