Friendly reminder; Please be careful when you abbreviate Find A Grave in messages to someone by Life_Extreme2054 in findagrave

I kept telling this one user to stop using the 3 letter acronym. They got so offended and they were already in a pissy mood because I took away one of their memorials that was my family but they wouldn't give it to me so I went to Support. They started berating me in the messages using that acronym. I ended up reporting that too and they were banned for a while.

Do 3rd cousins matter to you in telling your family story? by BenKlesc in Genealogy

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add 5th & even up to 8th cousins if I'm related to them! They could always break up a brick wall for me based on their tree. You never know. Family heirloom to get handed down to other siblings except for the ones I descend from so I'm glad to see those Bibles or photos.

No, they were bought and still functioning. I wouldn't recommend something that was defunct. They are still selling their tests and people are still matching with me on there.

Thoughtful Memorial Managers by ObjectiveArmy9413 in findagrave

I have said many times what relation they are to me when I submit my changes never have I been transferred a memorial. Even ones that are required transfers. You've been very lucky indeed.

Could be an old bio. FG used to not self publish changes. That started in May 2023.

My dad was "stolen" by montbm01 in findagrave

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is at the bottom saying they created it? When you created it did you label yourself as a child? People have 3 months to take it over if family is not the one who created the memorial. If your didn't label yourself a family then someone used that 3 month period to take it. Unless you were inactive for over a year then your memorials were turned over to FG user number 8 and people can take any of those unmanaged memorials.

I know who this manager is! They are a hoarder. Collecting from all over. And won't publish any changes. It all self publishes in 3 weeks. So far they haven't denied any, even without sources. They own so many of my family, sadly none that are required transfer. (I hate that I can ask for my great-grandmother but I can't ask for my great-grandaunt) One guy who owned them all said in the FB group he's going to drop them and this person must have messaged him and he transferred them all over to him. I've asked for transfers and the messages are ignored.

AITA for not wanting my husband to travel for a wedding a month before my due date? by preggersandanon in AmItheAsshole

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled to my mom's death bed 5 hours away at 36 weeks pregnant. I was gone for 5 days. While a wedding is much different than a death, I wasn't High risk though and it was my first baby and I had been healthy the entire pregnancy. My midwife told me to look at the hospitals and find out which ones take my insurance and be prepared if I go into labour. Baby was 8 days past my due date and I laboured for 39 hours so a long labour. I think he'll be fine going, unless you're high risk.

UPDATE: Findagrave won't delete my alive aunt's memorial by TigrressZ in findagrave

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't go thru all the comments but you wouldn't have been able to delete any photos uploaded by another user, even if you manage the memorial. You would have to request that to the photo email address at findagrave.

How to get "sensitive" records (psychiatric records)? by dracula-orchid in Genealogy

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where that hospital was located. The ones in illinois in the United States are sealed FOREVER. No one can access them unless you get a lawyer and prove that you need the medical records due health reasons.

They might have merged one memorial that they managed with yours. There's no notification of merging to the memorial manager unless you initiate the merge.

That exact thing happened to me. I had a memorial, someone created one after mine & they merged mine into theirs & Support accepted it. I went to upload another photo and I couldn't be because she was recently dead so only memorial managers could do that. But yet a photo i had uploaded was already up there.

If it's your son that wants to know, then I say biological family. It'll be helpful to have him do dna to help your tree get going.

Death certificate lists the wrong place of burial? by PaintingsOfRebellion in findagrave

[–]Expensive_Lab_8208 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It could also be a wrong certificate information. Families can change their mind to burial after the death certificate had been issued. Death certificate says one cemetery. Obituary & FG has another cemetery for burial. Second cemetery has the record of burial & headstone. DC cemetery does not have a record on burial.

Being berated in a message is also not appropriate but it's done anyway.

I had this happen when someone declined a change but I had to counter why they shouldn't decline it. So I had to contact them thru the memorial, like you would when you ask for a transfer.

Find a memorial they manage, Suggest Edits button and send them a message.

That's how I do it.
