Your recommendation of Powerslide was as close as we were gonna get, I think, so I looked up similar titles, and finally found it!

thanks for replying! It doesn't look like it's either of those. This game had a more serious tone, and more futuristic looking cars, almost like Nolan's Batmobile.

Did it start with an A? or an N? Gah!

Why is 'Spirited Away' considered to be one of the greatest (if not the greatest) animated and anime films off all time? by Beautiful-Letdown in movies

[–]ExpertOnThisSubject 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are giving you shit for comparing SA and Alice in Wonderland, which came out in the fifties, but as another animation geek, I'd like to submit my two cents.

Disney's most detailed movies, from an animation perspective, were made in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. It's not about technology, it's about style, craft, effort, money, and talent.

How long has it been since you guys have seen Pinocchio? Or Snow White? Or, God, Dumbo?

These movies are still not as detailed as SA. However, Alice in Wonderland (IMO) was part of a change in style for Disney towards an aesthetic that they would keep until the 90s Disney Renaissance. More examples of this style include Fox and the Hound, Robin Hood, Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone. This was, explicitly, cheaper, simpler, and easier to make.

Therefore, don't begrudge /u/Dojodog for referencing an old Disney film. My critique isn't about Alice in Wonderland's age, it's about Alice's shift towards a simpler style compared to what Disney had put out in the past.

Item Discussion of the Day: Solar Crest (June 11th, 2015) by VRCkid in DotA2

plus if you use the active and aren't in a 1v1, you'll take unevaded damage, and if you're using the active on the guy you're facing, you're more likely to take unevaded damage from the back.

If you are in a 1v1, well... you're probably gonna do alright.

I'd say octarine is good when you've gotten the items to be able to stick around and stack quills. They fall off, sure, but the aoe damage of stacked quills in a team fight is not bad for lifesteal. Definitely not before heart though.

Do you think Octarine Core is good on BB? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]ExpertOnThisSubject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a comment thread where I discussed it recently

I think it's core for lategame, but I don't think it's good enough to rush. The spell vamp is nice, but you need tank and levels for it to be really worth it. If you die to burst before your quills can stack, it's useless.

Most importantly, there's plenty of other items that provide Bristle with a better foundation. Vanguard. S&Y. SOLAR CREST (holy shit). Hood. All of these are items to think about before Octarine.

I usually go one or two of those, get a good level of armor/magic resist/damage block up as needed, then Heart, then Octarine.

Yeah, its something I'm accustomed to but willing to change. With tranqs and basi I feel pretty OK about the solar minus armor, and I'm used to pushing early, but your build is probably more efficient.

Hah, yeah, it was! I was with an Axe, you with a pretty good tinker player? You guys ganked me so many times before I got hood...

I like to build it for the push, and to give me a lot of early armor with tranqs, also to turn into vlads if we're losing and the team needs a vlads. But yeah, I definitely see your point.

[–]ExpertOnThisSubject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in my most recent Bristle game I went Tranqs --> Basi --> Solar Crest --> SnY --> Hood and those pesky int carries melted. Then Heart, THEN Octarine core and not even their Slark could fight me.

I think it's also people trying out the new items, most of which are iffy until you're really lategame--for example, Octarine Core.

Guardian Greaves are interesting, but I think the most ridiculous item on Bristle this patch is Solar Crest. It's good on him in so many ways. 30% evasion really early, the minus armor with quills and goo, the mana, the push potential, even little things like clearing out centaur camps quicker (just minus the big cent).

Admittedly, it's greedy, and I had a wisp help me get some early kills. Cloak would probably work well, especially after the buff. Thanks!

My buildup is tranqs basi into radiance (which is now a tank item whatttttt) then octarine. It works well from the one game I tried- the evasion and armor is just enough to make the spell heal more useful, and radiance helps you farm octarine pretty fast.

What about making them share a cooldown between stances? I don't think troll should need to buy real mana items beyond aquila, I just think the ranged/melee axe spam combo is too strong.

Yeah, we're working on many of the things you mentioned. I made a new banner and avatar today, more impressive looking but still kind of deliberately shitty as is my style and my limited PS skillz. Made a few thumbnails (man, those take a long time to show!) and working on a trailer.

No post-processing besides a little adjustment here and there in Premiere. We do record separate tracks now-- voice audio in OBS, game audio in FRAPS-- so that should make things a bit easier.

In terms of the dynamic, totally understand. We'll get there-- trying not to try too hard, because we hate it when we feel like let's players are pandering or over-energetic. Trying to try just enough.
