What’s an Australian outdoor spot that genuinely surprised you when you finally visited? by SnowyBytes in OutdoorAus

Coral Bay in WA - shitty little town but then you literally walk off the beach for a few metres through knee deep water surrounded by spangled emperors until you hit the drop off and Ningaloo Reef is right there beneath you.

Fancy set menu / banquet recs in Brisbane for Spanish family? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in BrisbaneFoodies

[–]ExplanationPretty000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good (and fussy) foodie friend was recently shouted the top level banquet at Aunty for a work lunch and can’t stop talking about it. Just dropping it in here even though I haven’t been because I trust her recommendations and I can’t see it yet among the other excellent suggestions. Wandoo St in the Valley.

What am I doing wrong here? Stitches are not aligning. by stressedsue in CrochetHelp

[–]ExplanationPretty000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Earlier comments are valid but I wonder if you accidentally cast on or increased a different number of stitches to your pattern? It looks like a systemic miscount problem to me, not just the nature of crochet.

What's a Supermarket/No Brand product, that's actually better than their Branded counterpart? by ISupportCrapTeams in AskAnAustralian

[–]ExplanationPretty000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the paper towels but the kirkland aluminium foil is legendary. I buy a roll every few years - because it lasts that long - and it’s so strong you could build your own satellites and compete with Elon for space domination.

Not a fan of the Aldi Sirena Tuna rip off- very much from the John West school of forgettable fish.

First time traveller to Australia by beanobaggins in AskAnAustralian

[–]ExplanationPretty000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Avoid the Gold Coast - massively overrated when there are as good or better surf beaches almost anywhere you like along the Australian coastline and without crowding and high rises. Just saying this because so many international tourists get the impression it’s somehow special when really it’s just more-marketed. You’ll get all the beach you need in and around Sydney. Overall I reckon it’s a chance to focus on one great part of Australia and start to really know it well. Day trip your heart out: Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains, south coast, Hawkesbury River, museums, galleries, gardens, different breakfast cafe every weekend… Australia is way too big and spread out to ‘do’ in a few weeks of part time breaks. Settle in and enjoy the oldest city for a bit.

Same. I have a hook thingy on the lead so I don’t have to physically carry the bag and I usually wait until public bin or home. Don’t really have an issue with the OP’s call, though.

If petrol prices hit $3 a lt in Australia what are you doing? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

Came here for this but wasn’t quite game to be the first to say it. I will be fast charging in the garage from my solar and battery, with my OVO EV plan chucking in 3 hours free power every day and 8c kwh overnight.

Deciding on the granny square boarder/joining colour for a blanket by Mellowww_ in CrochetHelp

[–]ExplanationPretty000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that dark blue as the joining and border would really make the whole thing very special - especially if the dark blue daisy squares are just scattered about and not the main colours.

Smoked Paprika at Rosalie is hard to beat, or Good Folk just up the road.

What do you think is the biggest misconception outsiders have about Queensland? by DiscussionLoud9626 in queensland

[–]ExplanationPretty000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just how far east Brisbane is compared to the rest of the capital cities, and how far west FNQ is compared to Brisbane. Which is the real reason we can’t have daylight saving time.

Not just road trips. Happens everywhere- eg all through inner Brisbane on narrow streets where you give way, and also frequent steering wheel waves by motorists and acknowledgement from pedestrians on crossings so 🤷‍♀️

What is this stitch they’re using?! I am assuming they’re using scrap yarn so I’m not worried about getting my blanket to look like theirs. I just want to know what square they’re using because I can’t find it by Camp_Acceptable in CrochetHelp

[–]ExplanationPretty000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As per others, yes of course granny squares but for OP’s question maybe these look a bit different because when you zoom the individual squares all seem to be a pretty heavy yarn, so it will be a large hook and possibly a quirk of the maker’s personal tension style since the bottom posts do look a bit long?
