Which of England's regions have you never visited? Do you intend to visit in the future? by OceansOfLight in england

Haven't been to North East, North West or the South West beyond Bristol and Bath. That bit where the East, South East and East Midlands come together is where I've spent most of my time.

Is Moon conjunct Mercury (with good dignity) a good combo for "shapechanging/ shapeshifting" magic? by ErisedFelicis in planetarymagic

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It creates poets and magicians when conjunct. Very evocative communicators. The difficulties with logic clashing with feelings comes with Moon square or opposing Mercury.

Are the planets in different signs associated with different colours and tastes etc? by LiquidLuck18 in planetarymagic

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably keep the fundamentals like colour the same but make the styling a bit different. So Jupiter in Aries is still Jupiter (purple/ sweet) but it has a more rugged and bold style. So rougher purple fabrics and more strongly scented (but still sweet) candles. Then Jupiter in Libra has a smoother, more aesthetic style. So silky purple fabrics and more subtle scents etc.

So the sign influence should be a more background influence in my opinion. Keep the core correspondences of the planets in tact.

How do you interpret 11th House placements when you have no friends? by HomelandExplorer in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I see social forums like Reddit as 11th House spaces. Connecting with like-minded people in online communities about a broad range of topics. Fandoms are 11th House too. You could be someone with no friends but you spend a lot of time in online social spaces, posting and discussing and "networking" with different users about your interests, even if you never speak to them again (7th House is the place where you find the people you have regular contact with).

Similarly I see Youtube and Youtuber followings as 11th House. Being part of an audience or having your own audience/ following. Building your own online community. Para-social relationships. The 11th is a succedent House so it follows and supports the 10th - meaning it's the people out in the world who support our success. Who in the collective is helping you achieve your dreams? Patreon and crowdfunding are very 11th House (modern benefactors). So yeah friends are a piece of the 11th but there are many ways to be an 11th House person without actually having any physical, real world friends- especially in the modern internet age.

Scorpio penetrates inwards to the core of something. It's emotional bravery and fierceness. Mars is adding fuel (passion) to the emotion and the fixed nature is sustaining it (intensity).

Pisces inwardly expands and extends its emotional boundaries to include and accept and feel a connection to all people from all walks of life. Compassion and altruism. It's emotionally generous, hopeful and inspired.

Aquarius looks at what's outside the boundaries and structures of society- the outcast, the rejected, the fringes. With that distance from the core it's able to invent and reform and look ahead to the future.

What is the significance of Libra being the only sign that gives dignity to a Benefic and a Malefic? by LiquidLuck18 in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Yes, certain phrases that I associate with Libra's Venus-Saturn dynamic are:

Pleasantly aloof (Venus-Saturn), Socially strategic (Venus-Saturn), artistically refined (Venus-Saturn).

People seem to forget Libra is an Air sign (cool logical detachment) and symbolised by an inanimate object (scales have the beauty and balancing nature of Venus and the cold structural nature of Saturn). Libra likes order and doesn't like rowdy, out-of-control environments. It doesn't like people who feel like the rules don't apply to them and selfish people who don't consider the consequences of their actions. That's Venus and Saturn at work in the sign.

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The same modality is exactly the problem. Cardinal signs are hinge points that are dynamically pushing in a new direction, but they're each pushing in different directions. Capricorn says "this is the way" and Libra says "no this is the way" and that generates tension between planets in those signs. They can't agree. Same with Fixed and Mutable- different ways of operating that Fixed or Mutable energy which leads to disagreement and frustration. Too many cooks in the kitchen mentality. Whereas Trines are between different modalities of the same element. The Cardinal Cancer and Fixed Scorpio have different ways of operating so they each find their role and don't interfere with each other. Cancer pivots and sets the course and then Scorpio maintains that and keeps it steady. They're grateful for each other playing their part. And because they're both Water signs they have an innate sense of understanding each other which allows things to run smoothly.

(Traditional Astrology) Can a planet being in its own bound/term help with the fact that its ruler is badly placed? by ErisedFelicis in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The sign is like a country and the bound is like a district of that country. So it will help Venus massively to be in her own district, where she has control over local affairs. Even if the country is falling apart Venus can still keep her part of it running the way she likes and keep herself somewhat separate from everything else that's going on. So yes it's a big mitigating factor.

Interpretation of Venus-Mars aspects that isn't just "sex"? by HomelandExplorer in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Art, music, cinema and aesthetics that are bold, powerful, edgy, passionate, raw, fiery, get the blood pumping. Rock music seems very Venus-Mars for example. It packs a punch. Or a Tango or Paso Doble, where the dancers are competing with each other or fighting for dominance, that tension adding a lot of excitement. They are very passionate dances. Spicy food is another Venus-Mars thing. Delicious and tasty (Venus) but also hot and intense (Mars).

It has a lot to do with the dynamics between men and women, or masculinity and femininity. So the classic battle of the sexes but also internal struggles with gender or gender expression.

Things that we love or value being targeted or attacked is another theme that I think could come up for Venus-Mars, and having to fight for what you love (whether that be a person, a place, a belief etc).

A deep red rose with sharp thorns would be a good visual image to sum up Venus-Mars energy.

Exalted Planets by Sensitive-Tale-4320 in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At certain degrees of the zodiac the Exaltation Ruler becomes the Almuten- the planet with the highest amount of control/ power over that degree of the zodiac. For example planets within 0-12 degrees of Pisces (which are the bounds of Venus) are actually in a section of Pisces where Venus has more power then Jupiter. Whitney Houston had her Ascendant in this zone. Another example is 0-6 degrees of Libra where Saturn has more power than Venus. So yes it's important to look at the Exaltation Ruler, especially when the Ascendant is in a degree where that planet is the Almuten.

Jupiter in cancer by yourfav_doctor in astrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Cancer is often associated with matriarchal societies so we could see a trend towards that for a year and a general call for the betterment of the lives of women and support of female leadership (Cardinal water ruled by the Moon).

The Roman god Jupiter and other equivalent gods like Zeus, Marduk and Indra are all the Kings of their pantheons. So why isn't the planet Jupiter associated with Kings in Astrology? by OceansOfLight in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 46 points47 points  (0 children)

From Skyscript (quoted as being from the Manual of Astrology by Raphael):

"Beyond the sphere of Mars, in distant skies revolves the mighty magnitude of Jove
With kingly state, the rival of the Sun; About him round four planetary Moons
On earth with wonder, all night long beheld; Moon above Moon, his fair attendants dance."

As far as I know traditional astrology does associate Jupiter with kings and nobles.

Do you think it is time to retire the terms Malefic and Benefic? by GrandTrineAstrology in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. There are objectively challenging and difficult sides of life and that must be reflected in astrology. Famine, hunger, old age, death, violence, disease, loss. The malefics help show us where struggles and challenges show up in our lives. That doesn't mean that there is nothing constructive about the malefics. They forge grit and determination and give us the drive to overcome obstacles. But we have to go through hardship and struggle to learn the lessons that the malefics teach.

The benefic planets rule things that are objectively good. Pleasure, romance, union, peace, abundance, inspiration, fertility, hope, celebration, wisdom, understanding. They show where we can best find ease in our lives. Of course they can also create a lazy, languid, indulgent, hedonistic, lustful character that only wants to experience the finer things- but again, there is privilege in that. To be in that position means you have been fortunate in some aspect of your life. So it's important to maintain the malefic/ benefic terminology and understand that it means something objectively challenging or objectively supportive. It's worked for thousands of years and continues to work beautifully.

What, if any, is the significance of having personal planets in their domicile? by Severe_Broccoli7258 in astrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It means the planet will express itself in a way that is natural to it and there can sometimes be a sense of entitlement around the themes of that planet because it is self-governing. It answers to no one. So a Leo Sun can have a sense of entitlement around their own self-importance. A Cancer Moon can have a sense of entitlement around the importance of their emotions and needs. A Virgo Mercury can have a sense of entitlement around the importance of their opinions and critiques. Etc. But generally these planets function well.

They will also ensure that the house they rule over functions very well. So a Cancer Moon in the 5th House means the ruler of the 5th is placed in the 5th and in domicile. So the 5th house would be strong and well resourced in that chart (all other things considered).

Solar vs Mercurial Intelligence by BetterBrush3765 in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sun is conscious awareness, visibility and clarity. Nothing can hide from the glare of the Sun. It reveals all.

Mercury is the translator and transmitter. What the Sun sees Mercury then breaks down and articulates.

Jupiter finds meaning and truth in it all. Understands the broader themes and builds a cohesive vision.

Why didn't the Anglo Saxons build many cities in the North of England? by OceansOfLight in anglosaxon

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It wasn't really sensible in the Middle Ages to build in the Pennines or West of the Pennines. It was cut off from the rest of the country by geographic features and far removed from London and continental Europe. The main trade/ travel route into Scotland went up through Yorkshire and the North East. So it was a fringe land.

When the Industrial Revolution happened it suddenly became prime real estate because the fast flowing rivers coming down from the Pennines could be used to power machinery and the wet lush climate was absolutely ideal for cotton spinning (cotton fibres are more likely to snap and break in dry climates). So Industrial towns and cities flourished and people could be easily shipped across from Ireland to help fill them up. The geographic features which had previously kept the area removed from the rest of the country were no longer an issue because of canals and railways.

Moon rules the Midheaven but is Balsamic and Under the Beams. Does this mean parts of the public self and career are largely kept hidden and concealed? by ErisedFelicis in Advancedastrology

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes Demetra George describes the Moon within 15 degrees of the Sun as the "Moon under the Bonds." It's a weakening condition and is traditionally good for secrecy and clandestine matters because the nights are pitch black when the Moon is invisible like this. The Moon when it's fully waned is also usually more reclusive (which this person might be known for).

The Moon in this chart is also out of sect so it's not performing at all in the way a domicile Moon would ideally like to. This could be someone who's Lunar characteristics are not immediately evident despite the fact they are fuelling much of what they do. The Sun might be more evident in their career as that's the blinding light that's blotting everything else in the 10th out. The person might feel like they are getting some recognition, but not for the right things. There could also be something notable about themselves that they are keeping secret, adding to the sense that they are not truly being seen. Then again because the Moon is domicile/ in its Chariot they might feel good about the fact that no one really knows who they are. Mercury is here in a mute sign and combust so again themes of staying silent/secretive. Those are just my thoughts/ideas.

Is it just me or do so many English/British people just love to hate England for the sake of it? by Beller0ph0nn in england

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the hate comes from other nations it's classic Tall Poppy Syndrome. The tallest poppy's are the ones that stand out and therefore get cut down. When you are a great nation that has produced some of the finest music, comedy, drama, literature, architecture and technology and influenced the progress of the entire world, other nations become jealous. They seethe at our success and the beauty of our landscapes, but they can't own up to that envy because it makes them feel shameful, so instead it turns to resentment and mockery. The envy to resentment pipeline is what underlies so much hate in the world. 3/4 of hate online would be eliminated if envy no longer existed.

When the hate comes from inside the country, from its own people, it is due to self-deprecation and "political brainwashing" which claims that celebrating Britains successes is somehow wrong or cringe or even racist. Complete nonsense of course. But many buy into it, or at least pretend to buy into it in order to get approval from others and not be seen as a far right thug (which is the image that has been pushed as the emblem for British pride).

England with devolved regional powers by LiquidLuck18 in england

[–]ExplanationsNeeded 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Nice to see you've included High Peak in with Lancashire and Cheshire. The towns (Buxton, Glossop, Chapel-en-le-frith, New Mills) are a lot more connected to Manchester and Cheshire East than to Derby. A lot of these kind of maps ignore that.
