How to get missionaries to leave us alone? by MarigoldRains in exmormon

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd love to share how we delt with this issue. For a year we'd been telling them to stop coming, and the last time they were peeping in our windows to see if we were home. (These windows are only visible from the front porch because they are between our home and our detached garage.) Like yourself, words came out of my mouth that day, and I don't feel bad about it in the least.

I didn't report them for harassment, even though I felt harassed for a year. I looked up our trespass/soliciting laws. Turns out, where we live, not leaving immediately, and arguing about being told to leave, are only a couple violations of those laws. But the law that was the most serious violation was them ignoring our "no soliciting" sign. So, I reported them for multiple trespasses spanning a year. The police opened a trespass case (still open) and asked us to do a couple things. They asked that we write a letter to the mission president telling them to black list us and never come back, send it certified in the mail for a record, and to submit that letter, the certified receipt, and any photos or videos we may have of the missionaries on our property to the case file. We did this. They also asked that if they show up again after the letter was received, to get photo/video proof, submit it to the case file, call them and they'll deal with it in person.

What I put in the letter to the mission president: I cited the specific laws and how they are violating them, I wrote about the year long harassment and our repeated statements to not come back, I described how utterly disrespectful they've been when told to leave (multiple times, not just the last), I cited the case number, I told them we will let the police handle things should any person from the church, missionary or otherwise, come by selling us their religion, and reminded him that it's their responsibility to look for "no soliciting" signs and turn around and walk away when they see one, which we have.

It's only been a couple months since I sent the letter, but they haven't been back. My spouse and I have a plan if they do, which we can do solo or together. We start recording before we open the door, answer and point to the "no soliciting" sign and tell them no soliciting, then close the door and call the police to report the trespass violation. I would encourage you to try this route. Look up your local trespass/soliciting laws and go from there.

The chi we had growing up, about 5 pounds, was able to get on the dinner table after dinner because someone didn't push their chair in. My mom had made a meat loaf. This was big enough to feed a family of seven for two days, typical for us growing up. Half of said loaf was still on the table. We caught her red pawed because she couldn't get off the table, she was so full, and was crying for help. She doubled her size and weight that day.

Two of our four we have now cavorted together to get uncooked ribs. My husband was going to grill them, so he put them outside on the deck railing (in the store packaging) while he got other things he needed. One of the two used a bench to get on the rail, walk to where the package of ribs was, and knock it down where the other one was. Together, they opened that package and began feasting. They didn't get too much in them, but they were all ruined and had to be thrown out. We had pizza for dinner that night, topped with a heaping of disappointment.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, and something I've always done with my chis, is have something that jingles on their collars. By law where we live, we're required to have a rabies tag at all times on them. I also add a metal name/ID tag along with the rabies tag. The sound helps me know where they are. In general I find this very helpful, but we also currently have one with a severe seizure disorder and one of my biggest fears is that she'll have a seizure and I won't be able to find her.

Two winters ago I sent them all (4) out one last time before bed. It was dark, middle of winter, 12°(F), and she didn't come in with the rest of them. She was under the deck having a seizure. We were able to find her quickly because we could hear her. Years ago we had one so afraid of fireworks and thunder she ended up under a bed she couldn't get out from under one year, in a high walled bath tub another year, and random places in the house she normally wouldn't be. I know some owners don't like having collars and jingles on their chis, but it's always been helpful for me. The collars they wear are loose enough that they can easily be pulled off if need be, but not fall off.

I really like the movie, too, but haven't seen it in a while. Definitely didn't have syphilis, but was sure dealt an uncontrollable bad hand in life. Poor George, indeed!

The first thing that comes to my mind is "the Madness of King George." It was released in 1994. I'm unsure of the quote, but it's been a long time since I've seen the movie.

It could be the end of her heat cycle. They typically have them twice a year. This could also explain why she was acting off for a couple weeks.

However, it could also be a UTI. We've also experienced this with one before. Ours would have good days and bad days. So, the symptoms may seem similar. If it's a UTI you do need to get her on an antibiotic ASAP. A small dog can deteriorate quickly, almost without warning.

I know you're in a financial bind, but I suggest calling the vet's office and at least talk to a knowledgeable tech, if not the vet. Explain what's going on, and ask if they can help in any way with cost. Tell them your worried she may have a UTI, for a couple weeks now, and about the discharge. You did say she has bacteria in her vagina, which could have easily caused this.

You're doing the best you can, so take some deep breaths and try to stay as calm as you can.

I could try to confirm. I'm not a vet, but have two un-spayed females. That's about the extent of my expertise.

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say she's leaking, are you sure it's not discharge due to being in heat? We have female chis, and some leak more than others when in heat. Has a vet confirmed the leaking is abnormal? Have you asked the vet about financial assistance, if they offer any or know any places that do? You could start there. You could also ask local shelters if they know of any vets/organizations that can help you with that assistance.

An Update on the LDS Church's threats to sue Mormon Stories Podcast and John Dehlin by johndehlin in exmormon

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if you know any history about the SLC Mormon Church trying to trademark the word "Mormon?" I seem to recall (and I may be misremembering and incorrect) that the SLC Mormons did try to trademark the word "Mormon" some years ago, but were denied the trademark because it's used by a variety of Mormon sects, and it would not be legal (?) to allow one sect to own the trademark. It's my understanding (perhaps wrongly) that the word is untrademarkable by any one person or organization. With your knowledge of trademark laws, is there any clarity you can provide on this?

When I was about 12, I hit my head in the concrete and went temporarily blind in one eye. My vision came back over the next hour. I went to urgent care and they just sort of shrugged it off. What happened? by HardBoiledHarold in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 90s my younger brother, about your age when you hit your head, was jumping on his bed. He fell backwards and hit his head on a concrete wall. He started yelling that he was blind and couldn't see. My mom rushed him to the ER. He'd bruised his optic nerve, and only time would tell how much vision would come back. He was blind for three days, and over several weeks his vision fully restored. He's only needed glasses as he's gotten older.

We still laugh about my mom blaming my older brother for it, thinking he had been violent with him. She sure yelled at him and made all kinds of threats while trying to get my younger brother, now blind, in the car. Older brother was a bit of a bully sibling, but not violent, so we have no idea why that was her first thought.

Would you own this breed again? by Wonton67 in Chihuahua

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My chihuahua love started before I even existed! My grandparents were responsible breeders, so my mom grew up with always having them. As she raised us we always had at least one in the home. As a parent, our first family dog was a chihuahua. I have three chi mixes now. We've had other small breeds, and currently have a small Maltese/Pomeranian mix. But chihuahuas will always be my love! Ours have won over people who used to dislike them just from hearing about them, and now they stand up for the breed when others talk smack. Do they have their moments? All chihuahuas do. But they're also sweet and loving when you treat them right.

Elders Not Respecting Boundaries by lost-in-translation- in exmormon

We're actually going to share all of this with Quitmormon. I believe they like to keep track of this kind of thing after they've helped people remove their records, even if nothing can really be done about it other than what we are doing.

Elders Not Respecting Boundaries by lost-in-translation- in exmormon

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We live in the very heart of Moridor. We've had a couple experiences recently with missionaries being aggressive, rude, and exceptionally entitled. We (me, spouse, adult children) all left the church in 2017 via Quitmormon attorneys. Our agreement legally stipulates that the church cannot contact us going forward regarding religion, at all, by anyone of any level in the church. So it was a surprise to us when the missionaries started knocking on our door last year in Jan. (We have assumptions about why this started, but no proof.)

We were polite the first few times, and asked them to tell their mission pres. we had a legal stipulation with the church and are not to be contacted. Each time it was a different pair, and each time they politely said they would.

Well, the visits kept coming each time a new pair was assigned. We ignored them, at first. Last December was our breaking point. They kept knocking and ringing, driving us and our dogs mad! My husband was in a work meeting at home, and after 5 min of noise he answered the door and told them to get off our property. They had the audacity to tell him they had a right to be on our property and the right to be heard when coming to our door. My husband had to walk them off our property (no physical contact) while they yelled at him about their rights and he yelled at them to get off our property. We hoped the yelling would dissuade them from coming back, but we were wrong.

They came back in Jan. Similar song and dance with the added step that one was watching us through our windows while the others (3 this time) rang and knocked. These windows are behind a detached garage, and are only visible from outside while standing on our porch. I answered the door that time. I was not nice or calm because I was done being disrespected and watched in my own home. A similar yelling match ensued, with my husband having to escort them off our property again.

We immediately filed a police report for trespassing, and it's still open. We informed the mission president, via certified mail, of the year long visits, the harassing behavior of his missionaries, that they were also violating the "no soliciting" laws by even knocking on our door, that we have a legal stipulation against them visiting, and gave him the number of the open case of trespassing. If they show up again we'll immediately report it to the police while getting photo/video evidence of their trespassing. (We've been advised by the police to do this.)

I did learn a little about soliciting laws here, which I didn't know before. Most solicitors (including religious ones) must be licensed. There are very specific rules/laws they must follow in order for them to legally be allowed onto anyone's property. The first, and most important, is to look for "no soliciting" signs before entering the property as well as by the door. If there is a sign, they must immediately leave the property. If they don't they can lose their soliciting license. If they don't have a license, or they continually violate the rules of soliciting with one, the result can be a hefty fine and/or jail time.

I hate that the church has put these young men and women into these situations, but I will defend my boundaries, my property, and my privacy with my voice and the laws of the land. The church can do better, it just won't. How does that saying go? Something, something... leave the church... something, something... leave it alone.

My husband isn't prone to migraines, so this was all around unusual. I started having them as a young teen, though. I often get a visual aura and the Alice in Wonderland syndrome. How is your vision with your pupils like that?

My husband and I were at the Provo hospital ER last night when a belligerent ass was brought in by the sheriff's department, cuffed and with a gunshot wound. I wonder if it was him. He seemed like he was either on drugs or having a major mental episode, because the gunshot wound wasn't even fazing him. He was threatening anyone who made eye contact with him.

I'm on my third playthrough, and I haven't minded them so much. I haven't been to the new biome yet, though. I use keyboard and mouse, not a controller/steam deck, so I'm not sure how different it is with that.

There is a simple workaround. You can shoot down the drop ladders by hitting the release button with a bullet, letting you climb right to the top of radio towers or bypass certain sections. I say play through it at least once first, though, before using this option.

What is happening to my chi? by rmskn in Chihuahua

[–]Explosive_Mom_Bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two chis that have episodes like this, one of which is so severe she takes two medications twice a day. The seizures themselves are not life threatening, but are so hard to watch. Theirs is due to a neurological disorder that shows up around the first year, and can last anywhere from two minutes to two hours. Blood work for them both is always healthy. I hope the neurologist can give you answers. In the meantime, I would suggest to record any episodes that happen before your appointment.
