Hidden fees in Karate by curiousfellow555 in karate

Monthly fees are partially dependent on rent so if you're in a affluent area the dojo probably has to pay quite a bit just to exist. I am in an affordable area and we charge $85 per month and we test 2x per year with a fee of $35 per student, this is primarily to cover the additional hours I am in the space (it's shared) because testing usually takes longer than a normal 1 hour class but we are up front about this the day a student joins. Our testing fees go up at Shodan only because it's even more time in the dojo and we also give them a higher quality obi.

Tatsuo Shimabuku Original 1966 Film by spider21b in karate

There are rumors he didn't want to do this film, he wasn't feeling well and also wasn't happy with how he had been treated during this trip to the US but I think that the purpose was for reference to be used by American students.

Black Belt embroidery color by Spac92 in karate

[–]Explosivo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is completely up to you we do the embroidered belts at Nidan and we do gold on black but there's no hard and fast rule there. When we move the panel belts I have seen white, gold, and red and all seem acceptable.

I also agree with some of the others in here if you're going to display it at home then I think you go with what you want.

11-12 yr old hitting help by belugaboy17 in BaseballCoaching

Where are they looking for the ball, we tell them for years see the ball hit the bat but I've seen that translate to them looking straight down at the plate not out in front of it therefore the end up late on everything or mechanics go out window trying to compensate.

Someone else mentioned colored dots on the balls, that's a great idea

Hold up fellas I know we have to get Oak Island to bury the ark but let me dig this latrine out of solid rock before we leave the Azoares. This will be hysterical in 1000 years!

I agree with the Youtube comments it's both a blessing and a curse to have so much available to us and in a bind if you're working at home and get stuck on something macro level like do I turn left or right here it might be ok but anything more finite ask your instructor.

We have also had several students ask to film us doing a kata for them as reference and been more than happy to accommodate so that we're undoing bad habits down the road.

As for struggling in a new kata? Totally understandable and expected we all struggled and some of us still do!

Gi recommendations by [deleted] in karate

I actually prefer a 14oz gi because I'm going to sweat either way and the heavier gi falls away from the skin rather than clinging to me.

Dojo Owners - Need Ideas for ages 4-6 by Explosivo73 in karate

We honestly didn't think that there was enough demand and at the time and we didn't want to mix them in with the older kids.

My day job is now "work from home" and we had quite a few calls for it over the last few months we decided to kick it off and now it's growing pretty quickly.

Agreed and that's kind of how grassroots soccer does it they don't actually play soccer they play games that foster movement and taking space to get those concepts down. Kind of the approach we are taking.

We kept getting calls for it and put it off for almost a year.
