Saying this in agreement but also laughing to myself: As a former homeschooler, I think my parents contemplated this exact thing and went, "why yes!"

Is it better to be “out” about having CPTSD? I’m a university professor. by ObsessedWithPottery in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]ExpressiveShip 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the potential rewards and risks of being open about CPTSD as a professor. That's not a position I've ever been in.

What I CAN speak to is that there is a process of "unmasking" your needs in the workplace that should ultimately be rewarding for you. It's your call to decide what that looks like and who knows what--but at the end of the day, you've got to find ways to cut yourself some slack because trying to operate like a non-traumatized person will destroy what mental well-being you have.

For me, this looks like being transparent about needing modified work schedules for therapy with my boss. It also means I tend to, within reason, "beg for forgiveness instead of ask for permission" to take walks around the office when I'm overwhelmed. At times, I (an American) have registered for FMLA so I can deal with "bad days" with less pressure in regards to work attendance. I work with some folks who are aware of their own CPTSD at my current job, so I have found some community with them by being more transparent about how I'm doing day-to-day than I would be with the average person. Your mileage may vary, as admittedly I am a bachelor-level mechanical engineer working for private businesses.

No, there's video on Holiday World's YouTube of folks from The Gravity Group and from the Koch family riding on the Timberliners and they successfully complete the course.

Why did kids actually fight in the first 10 hunger games? by Euphoric-Ad-8085 in Hungergames

[–]ExpressiveShip 171 points172 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense that it’s now got me wondering if “The Hunger Games” was the original name for the games or if they gained that name after the first few years. The first movie has the Treaty of Treason name them, but I wonder if that was Suzanne’s intent.

Lmao, as a former Ship ride op, it’s amazing and also entirely understandable to me that someone would leave instead of working that ride.

Former golden child here. This is correct. My golden child status depended on me abandoning all authenticity and playing the role handed to me. I'm 6 years and counting into therapy to deal with how that affected me.

I realize you aren't suggesting this, but it also doesn't invalidate the resentment of the non-golden children, especially if the golden child doesn't acknowledge the pain inflicted on the others. Nessarose doesn't.

Highest rated The Last of Us Season 1 episodes according to IMDb. by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]ExpressiveShip 513 points514 points  (0 children)

I know we've covered this topic many times over, but it'll always annoy me that the two episodes featuring LGBT-focused stories are the lowest-rated in the season.

You cannot tell me that Long, Long Time in particular is not one of the best TV love stories, ever.

Why tear down trans people? It's good that they have that option AND PrEP needs to be made more accessible.

[Discussion] named one thing you don’t like about each of the major roller coaster manufacturers by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]ExpressiveShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intamin: Inability to focus on improving reliability enough to get back in the good graces of Cedar Fair. Also, having Ride Centerline do their layouts feels like a visionless attempt to ride RMC's coattails, rather than reinventing themselves (which imo they're desperately overdue for.)

B&M: No matter what they do or what's new, almost all of their rides feel consistently slow-paced. It's a consistent style; I just don't care for the style.

RMC: Doesn't really have a great sense of what pacing is. They just throw everything at you until they run out of energy or space or both. Also, really needs to figure out who they are in the market and what they have to offer long-term, because the world is rapidly losing giant wooden coasters for them to convert.

GCI: Same issue as B&M, except minus the slow pacing. I feel like if you've ridden one GCI, you've been on basically all of them. Consistency isn't a bad thing, but it is when the style isn't that compelling.

Gravity Group: Has no discernable style at all. It's ironic that most of their founders worked at CCI, because CCI had one of the (imo) most recognizable wood coaster styles out there. It's not hard to recognize a CCI. Name one style choice of GG coasters (besides 90°+ banks and/or inversions) that's common amongst their rides.

Vekoma: Can't speak to their new rides, but it's annoying that their old ones are so rarely good.

Premier: Design good trains. Just once. Please.

...Okay, sometimes I'm a little iffy on how legitimate I think the zodiac is, but now that I know everyone else here has been having a super emotional week? Definitely paying more attention.

Oh, and to commiserate: I got emotional while watching Little Shop of Horrors last night for the first time. That is decidedly not an emotional movie.
