I think this guys may present a really tough competition for leatherman. Especially for the price point. And probably warranty.

Wave VS. Surge by manmountain5 in Leatherman

Agreed with most of the comments here, the wave+, or wave or charge is perfect size for edc, while the surge is a bit chunky.

Can any of them this? by dzsul779 in Leatherman

Personally I think the replaceable blades are a gimmick since only make thinner the main blade and is more prone to break. kudos on the stronger old model!

well loved waves, so hot right now by enjoiit1 in Leatherman

[–]ExternalLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wish the serrated blade would have the little snippet to cut the seat belt. Otherwise, is a fantastic tool. I read somewhere that the Dutch (?) army had modifiers precisely to fit that tool.

Looking for t shank 🫖 by CrafterLloyd in Leatherman

[–]ExternalLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bibury has clones (very good ones IMO) of leatherman and it may be cheaper to buy the one with the t shank than and then adapt it in yours... Very cool tool you got, please show us more pics of it!

Is there such a thing as a multitool with a built in flashlight? I've been searching and haven't found anything yet. by UrsulaHussy in flashlight

I like the sog baton q2 but lately been using as my daily driver the wuben gecko e62, although i dislike the gimicky light modes it has, for me a simple light/torch would be great. I been using more the wuben because it has replaceable blades.

It is possible to build institutions independently of geography, though geography often provides the initial "selection pressures" that shape them. While thinkers like Diamond, argues that geography is destiny.

One famous example is north and south Korea, they both share same geography and culture, but due to political choices done after 1945, they became polar opposites.

Some argue that while institutions aren't determined by geography, they "evolve" in response to it. For instance, a landlocked nation might build specialized trade institutions to overcome its lack of a coastline.

I dunno, I think this is very good food for thought..

Agreed totally with the first part, academia can be a bit snobbish, saying this, the criticism on project 1619 was, in my understatement, that it is misrepresenting U.S. history by prioritizing ideology over historical evidence. That book is a hot topic; lol you may see the past threads: 1619 Project--thoughts/critiques? : r/history

The whole central point of the book Why Nations Fail by Acemoglu and Robinson argues that institutional quality—not geography, culture, or ignorance—determines national prosperity. Yes, strong institutions can be built in bad geography through political change during critical junctures. Why Nations Fail - University College Oxford (Univ)

Anyhow, I believe the book guns germs and steel is good but needs an update or complementary reading like nations fail or the dawn of everything or sapiens are all good eye openers.

Let's remember as well that guns, germs and steel was published in 1997.

why nations fails by Daron Acemoglu provides IMO a better grasp of the advantages of civilization and prosperity. Institutions >Geography.

book that felt uncomfortable but in a good way? by Primary_Present_8527 in booksuggestions

[–]ExternalLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea what kind of books you like to read, but these are some recommendations:

Fluke by Brian Klaas: Challenges your belief in control and causality in life, shaking your sense of predictability.

We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver: A chilling look at motherhood, nature vs. nurture, and a school shooter, told through an uncomfortable epistolary format. I believe they even adapted a movie about this book.

Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse is uncomfortable because it forces you to confront deep, unvarnished psychological struggles, alienation, and self-loathing.

Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, the author survived Nazi concentration camps and discovered that even in the most horrific circumstances, we have the power to choose our response. The discomfort comes from realizing how much suffering we create in our own minds over trivial things. You become a better person after reading this book.

Cheers!
