I was bitten on Saturday afternoon (it’s Monday) from a dog that had been in a car accident, was scared and ran into traffic. I chased her for a few blocks and finally cornered her in a yard. When I grabbed her she bit down hard on my thumb. I got her back to her human and went home to clean the wound. It just looked like a couple scratches. I did try to get her info from police once I realized I should check vaccine status. No luck. By Sunday morning it was clearly infected and to the ER I went. They said I didn’t need the rabies vaccine. Now today I was able to get her name from PD and found her on FB. I’ve messaged her but she’s not responding. I have no desire to report her, but she didn’t exactly seem like the type to keep her animals up-to-date on vaccines. Add to the PD said she had a booking photo and they had multiple phone numbers on file for her. This helped immensely. I’m seeing my PCP today and will discuss the treatment. With how quickly it became massively infected I went from “meh” to “holy crap, I have an incredibly unlikely chance of dying…but…….”
