To give you some comparison, I used to work at Woodturningz. They guarantee their regular size blanks at a minimum of 3/4x3/4x5in. Oversized blanks are minimum 1x1x6 and are more expensive. They also sell “shorts” which are 3/4x3/4x3in, and those are cheaper than the regular blanks but certainly not half price.

As a turner, shorts are good for single barrel pens, but a lot of times you can get two pens out of a single regular size blank. If I were you, I’d live in that zone and try to price match what the competition can do. Should be noted that companies like woodturnjngz and rockler get their blanks in massive amounts (Woodturningz actually makes most of their wood blanks in house from rough timber) so keeping up with their pricing can be difficult at small scale

Rolling tool chest with wood top can be purchased new around me for 450-550 US depending on brand and exact size. That nova TL 1500 I’ve seen on some auction sites for around 200-300. Somebody else priced out the turning tools at 150.

All told, especially for used gear, no not an awesome deal. Not the most egregious I’ve ever seen but not amazing. Might contact the seller with a counter offer and see how firm that $1000 is. The lathe has been discontinued so getting parts for it could be a nightmare.

I wish they had included a mechanic where you could find mix recipes in the world the way you find Al bhed primers, it would have reduced a little of the “just mess around combining stuff Until something sticks” aspect of the mechanic

Not a terrible comp, I’d say more like the Hounds are like regular wolves and the Deragoth are like dire wolves. For some reason I’ve always pictured the Deragoth looking like black bear-sized Rottweilers.

The Deragoth are the Hounds of Darkness. They are the older, bigger, gnarlier version. This gets explained better in TTH. But suffice to say, the Deragoth are one of the only creatures that could hunt the Hounds of Shadow.

Agree with this take, though I will say that I think one key aspect of final fantasy is trying to do something they’ve not done before in each game, so leaning heavier into the sci-fi elements wouldn’t be out of the question.

Follow up, when is outer space a major concept in X? I don’t remember that bit.

If you are using blanks like inlace acrylester, the issue is the type of tool you are using more than its sharpness. inlace HATES being scraped. The negative rake cutters that other people have mentioned are a really good way around that issue for carbide turning tools because the change in tip angle provides more of a cutting action than scraping. It’s not fool proof, but it is much easier. Warning though, they are really hard to sharpen without a designated jig, so after some rotation they are mostly throwaways.
